A supposed safety measure mandating students at a California elementary school kneel before administrators in order to be dismissed will be stopped, school district officials said this week.

The move comes after a concerned parent circulated flyers to other parents alerting them that their children are “being told to stop and kneel down for the principal and administration” until they are excused to “return to class from lunch and recess,” according to KCAL-TV.

“Is it OK for your son and/or daughter to kneel down to them?” the flyer asked.

Yucaipa Calimesa Unified School District Superintendent Cali Binks told KCAL the policy was implemented this year as a “positive behavior intervention,” but said it will no longer be enforced.

It was not immediately clear how the kneeling of students related to campus safety or the instillation of positive behavior in the elementary school students.

Calls made to Binks by TheBlaze requesting comment were not immediately returned.

Mass phone calls were reportedly issued to parents informing them of the discontinuation of the controversial policy.

One parent expressed her outrage about what her daughter had to go through.

“She says that she has to drop down on one knee with her hands at her side, wait for the principal to come out, lift his arms and tell them to go to class,” the unidentified parent told KCAL. “I feel that the principal wants to be like a king, and we don’t have kings in America.”
