The only reason we can be outraged by an Islamic prayer meeting in the National Cathedral is that we are Islamaphobic, hateful and bigoted…right? Wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Here is the headline: The Washington National Cathedral hosted its first Muslim prayer service Friday in a powerful symbolic gesture aimed at uniting Christians and Muslims at the nation’s most prominent Episcopal Church.
Aimed at unity? What gesture of unity did we get from Muslims before opening our national church? What concession or explanation did they offer for the global atrocities in the name of Islam? What horror do they feel at ISIS beheadings? We have yet to see any widespread grief and outrage by the the 3 million Muslims in America over September 11th!
We need to see how ridiculous their logic is. Presented for your amusement or perhaps dismay is the vacuous logic of one Ebrahim Rasool: “This is a dramatic moment in the world and in Muslim-Christian relations,” Ebrahim Rasool, the South African ambassador to the United States, who helped organize the event, said, according to the Christian Science Monitor. “This needs to be a world in which all are free to believe and practice and in which we avoid bigotry, Islamaphobia, racism, anti-Semitism and anti-Christianity and to embrace our humanity and to embrace faith.”
Here is their giant concession? Islamaphobia is utterly unjustified and must be seen in the harshest possible light? They cannot fathom how, perhaps, the most widespread horrors done in the name of Islam are unique to Islam and no other religion is in the same solar system when it comes to such violence? Maybe, just maybe we should be even a teensy weensy bit phobic?
Here is the other part of their logic that makes my head want to explode: We are supposed to give into their propaganda that they are a religion of peace or else we are hateful and bigoted. In other words, they are free to call us hateful and bigoted for simply asking them for explanations for their epic hatred and bigotry?
If the massive atrocities done in the name of Islam were done even once in the name of Christ a deafening roar of outrage would explode from the American church. They would instantly condemn and reject the perpetrators and then take steps to pay restitution for crimes they did not even commit.
Not one Muslim prayed for America at that meeting. Not one asked God for forgiveness for the towering crimes against humanity that saturate the Muslim world.
It is time to stop lying to ourselves and admit where the real hatred is coming from and if we want use the term phobic then let’s talk about a religion that is phobic to any part of the human race that does not agree with them.
We should be most outraged at wispy liberals who fell for such an obvious publicity stunt. We should be outraged that our leaders behave like battered wives who blame themselves for their husband’s abuse. For their part, they blame America for Islamic violence. How sick is that? When we bowed to their propaganda we also bowed to Allah.
Franklin Graham summed it up this way: ‘ “It’s sad to see a church open its doors to the worship of anything other than the One True God of the Bible who sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth to save us from our sins,” wrote Graham. “Jesus was clear when He said, ‘I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ (John 14:6).”

The Washington National Cathedral hosted its first Muslim prayer service Friday in a powerful symbolic gesture aimed at uniting Christians and Muslims at the nation’s most prominent Episcopal church. The service, however, was quickly embroiled in controversy after conservative leaders called the effort inappropriate.
The church often hosts national events, including presidential funerals, inaugural prayer services and interfaith services. But Friday was the first time Muslims were invited to lead their own prayers at the church, according to the Guardian. To commemorate the service, prayer carpets were spread out across the church, including in its chapels. The rugs faced Mecca, as required for Muslim prayers.
“This is a dramatic moment in the world and in Muslim-Christian relations,” Ebrahim Rasool, the South African ambassador to the United States, who helped organize the event, said, according to the Christian Science Monitor. “This needs to be a world in which all are free to believe and practice and in which we avoid bigotry, Islamaphobia, racism, anti-Semitism and anti-Christianity and to embrace our humanity and to embrace faith.”
Friday marked Jumuah, the Muslim day of prayer, similar to Christian Sundays and the Saturday Shabbat in Judaism. Various Muslim groups, including the All Dulles Area Muslim Society, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the Islamic Society of North America, sponsored the event. About 100 people were invited to the service, which was not open to the public, the Washington Post reported.
The prayers drew criticism from Christian conservatives opposed to Muslims using the church. An unidentified woman shouted “leave our churches alone,” disrupting the prayer, according to The Associated Press. Before she was escorted out, she added: “Why can’t you worship in your mosque?”
Meanwhile, the Reverend Franklin Graham, son of popular evangelist Billy Graham, slammed the Muslim service on his Facebook page Thursday. “It’s sad to see a church open its doors to the worship of anything other than the One True God of the Bible who sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth to save us from our sins,” wrote Graham. “Jesus was clear when He said, ‘I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me’ (John 14:6).”
The conservative website Breitbart posted a story under the headline: “MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD OVERRUNS NATIONAL CATHEDRAL.”
Congress granted a charter in 1893 allowing the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation of the District of Columbia to build the church. It opened for service in 1912, according to its website.
LOOK FOR A MESSAGE TO CHRISTIANS FROM MARIO MURILLO ABOUT THIS STUNNING DEVELOPMENT LATER TODAY
“To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell’s heart, I stab at thee; For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.” -Captain Ahab in Moby Dick
Obama is doing it out of revenge.
By Mario Murillo
Listen to me America. You must wake up! What is a man of God if he does not warn when the Lord tells him to speak out? tonight is the eve of a great misery. I hate to bear evil tidings but everything within me tells me I must warn you. Obama is obsessed with hurting us in that way that Captain Ahab was obsessed with killing the whale Moby Dick.
He knows it will bitterly divide the nation. He knows that it will destroy an already fragile economy. He knows it will take jobs away from black people. He knows it will overwhelm all social agencies. He knows it will increase crime. In short, he knows that there are few things he could ever do that would hurt the nation he swore to protect as much as what he is about to do…but he will do it anyway and make no mistake, he is doing it to hurt you and those you love.
Obama is about to bring upon us the most preventable disaster in our history. He is not doing it for humanitarian reasons. He is doing it completely out of spite and revenge.
He is vicious, full of rage and will take his revenge. He will eviscerate the Constitution. He will do whatever he can to hurt us now that we rejected him. The midterm elections enraged him because the opposition voted against his policies and his own base, disillusioned with him, stayed home. It was the final humiliation for an utterly narcissistic president.
So with one sweep of his pen he will take his revenge on you and your children. He will create an illegal law to legalize 5 million illegal immigrants. He will tell the world to just sneak in here and take our dwindling resources. He will take the money of hard working Americans and give it to 5 million people who are illegally here.
He is bringing upon you and your children the most preventable disaster in our history. He is not doing this for humanitarian reasons. He has proven that he does not care about illegal immigrants. From 2008 till 2010 Democrats had control of the House, the Senate and the White House and did nothing. They could have passed comprehensive immigration reform but they did not, he did not.
He can wait but he won’t. He is only interested in illegal immigrants now because they can hurt those he hates.
He can give the new Congress a chance but he won’t. To the last he will rage against us, to the bitter end he will show malice and depraved indifference.
Wake up my friend! It is time for the entire church to become one voice of righteousness in America. Time is up, what we do we must do right now.
One of the architect of Obamacare said that it passed because of the stupidity of voters. Howard Kurtz, host of the Fox News Channel’s “Mediabuzz” slammed the media for failing to report the controversial comments of Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber, arguing that the “inexcusable,” “virtual blackout” was an example of liberal media bias on Wednesday’s “O’Reilly Factor” on the Fox News Channel.
“It’s been a virtual blackout, Bill, and it’s inexcusable, nothing on the network evening newscasts. One mention on CNN, not a word in the New York Times. On what planet is this kind of embarrassing admission not news? Maybe on that comet where the spaceship just landed” he stated.
After O’Reilly argued “you don’t really get the news if it goes against the liberal orthodoxy, and this is proof,” Kurtz responded, “I cannot argue on this. I think it’s gotten more pronounced during the Obama administration and by the way you mentioned MSNBC. Jonathan Gruber goes on the afternoon show there and talks to Ronan Farrow who has got zero journalistic experience…my 9-year-old daughter could have conducted a better interview with Jonathan Gruber.”
Nancy Pelosi claimed Thursday she didn’t know who ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber is, after several tapes surfaced showing him gloating about how the law was written to take advantage of the stupidity of the American voter.
Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, tried to downplay Gruber’s role during a press conference on Thursday.
She claimed she doesn’t know who he is, and that he didn’t help write the law. “Let’s put him aside,” she said.
However, Gruber was involved in the process – as his newly surfaced remarks make clear – and his analysis indeed was cited by Pelosi’s office when she was House speaker in late 2009.
At the time, her office put out a “health insurance reform mythbuster” press release pointing to the work of “noted MIT health care economist Jonathan Gruber” in examining the House bill’s impact on premiums. They noted that Gruber found it “would result in lower premiums than under current law for the millions of Americans using the newly-established Health Insurance Exchange.”
Still, when the press release was brought to Pelosi’s office’s attention on Thursday, aides indicated she does not know him – as she does not know everyone they have cited on their website.
And her spokesman claimed Gruber was not technically a bill author. “We’ve cited the work of dozens upon dozens of economists over the years. As the Leader said today, Mr. Gruber played no role in drafting our bill,” Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said.
Democrats have been putting some distance between themselves and Gruber after a series of recordings – mostly from 2012 and 2013 – have surfaced showing him bad-mouthing American voters.
The latest shows him speaking at the University of Rhode Island in 2012 about the law’s so-called “Cadillac tax.” The “Cadillac tax” mandates that insurance companies be taxed rather than policy holders. He said that taxing individuals would have been “politically impossible,” but taxing the companies worked because Americans didn’t understand the difference.
“So basically it’s the same thing,” he said. “We just tax the insurance companies, they pass on higher prices that offsets the tax break we get, it ends up being the same thing. It’s a very clever, you know, basic exploitation of the lack of economic understanding of the American voter.”
The new video follows another showing him speaking on a similar topic at an October 2013 event at Washington University in St. Louis. Referring to the “Cadillac tax,” he said: “They proposed it and that passed, because the American people are too stupid to understand the difference.” He also has said a lack of transparency helped the law pass.
In a commentary for Decision magazine, evangelist Franklin Graham calls out both President Obama and President Bush for defending Islam as a religion of peace.
Graham is reacting specifically to Obama’s speech before the U.N. in September in which the president said, “Islam teaches peace,” and also to George W. Bush, who, days after 9/11, said, “Islam is peace.”
Both men have done a great disservice to the American public by not understanding Islam and its teaching in the Quran.
The day after Obama addressed the U.N. in September, Graham recalls that he stood across from the White House in Lafayette Square with the hope that the president would hear his message in praying for the release of imprisoned Iranian-American Christian Saeed Abedini:
Mr. President—followers of a peaceful religion do not cut off the heads of innocent people in the barbaric fashion the world has watched recently.
Mr. President—believers in a peaceful religion do not kidnap 300 young schoolgirls as Boko Haram did in northeastern Nigeria in April and reportedly [sell] them to men to be sex slaves.
Mr. President—men who practice a peaceful religion do not detonate bombs on an American street during a marathon race to kill and maim innocent people.
Mr. President—no one who belongs to a peaceful religion would even consider hijacking jet airliners and flying them into buildings occupied by thousands of innocent people beginning their workday, as happened in this country and in this city on 9/11.
Mr. President—no peaceful religion would tolerate, let alone practice, female circumcision, require a woman to have her husband’s permission to leave her home and take up employment, and restrict her ability to receive justice in the case of sex crimes.
Mr. President—a peaceful religion would not condone and allow a father to drown a daughter in a swimming pool in front of the family in the name of family honor because she might have stayed out late in the evening with her boyfriend.
Mr. President—why haven’t the 3.5 million Muslims in North America rejected this gross, barbaric and despicable behavior by their fellow Muslims on American soil?
And that is Graham’s question left unanswered. He adds: “Why haven’t many, if not most, of the 1.6 billion Muslims around the world condemned these violent crimes against innocent humanity as they have occurred? Why would 23 percent of the world’s population stand by and allow their fellow Muslims to define them by violent behavior if this is truly a religion of peace?”
Christians, Graham affirms, “quickly and unanimously rise together to condemn” violent acts in the name of Christianity. “I cannot recall a single instance of violent behavior supposedly done in the name of Christianity that was not immediately repudiated by the Christian community,” he writes.
Graham calls Islam a “false religion…guided and characterized by treacherous deceit.” Furthermore, he concludes that a false religion can never be a true religion of peace. Only true religion that reconciles “a holy God and sinful man” can “bring lasting peace.”
He is not implying every false religion engages in “barbaric behavior,” but none of them, he says, “can deliver from the damning power of sin:”
Christ alone, the Son of God, saves from sin, Satan and death. He died on the cross for our sins, was buried and rose again from the dead.
My earnest prayer is that the Lord will use the chaotic and frightening events we see happening on the world stage to drive people, including followers of Islam, to the only solution—personal, transforming faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
President Obama readies a sweeping list of executive actions.
Tied to court-ordered deadlines, legal mandates and international climate talks, the efforts scheduled for the next two months show that President Barack Obama is prepared to spend the remainder of his term unleashing sweeping executive actions to combat global warming. And incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will have few options for stopping the onslaught, though Republicans may be able to slow pieces of it.
The coming rollout includes a Dec. 1 proposal by EPA to tighten limits on smog-causing ozone, which business groups say could be the costliest federal regulation of all time; a final rule Dec. 19 for clamping down on disposal of power plants’ toxic coal ash; the Jan. 1 start date for a long-debated rule prohibiting states from polluting the air of their downwind neighbors; and a Jan. 8 deadline for issuing a final rule restricting greenhouse gas emissions from future power plants. That last rule is a centerpiece of Obama’s most ambitious environmental effort, the big plan for combating climate change that he announced at Georgetown University in June 2013.
On top of all that, the administration is expected in the coming weeks to pledge millions of dollars — and possibly billions — to help poor countries deal with the effects of climate change.
The administration was committed to all these deadlines many months ago, in some cases under court order, after postponing many of the actions until after the 2012 or 2014 elections. Now that Obama is almost out of time, they’re coming all at once.
On deck are even more climate actions that will stretch well into 2015. In June, EPA is due to put out a final version of its rule for cutting greenhouse gases from the nation’s existing power plants — the linchpin of Obama’s entire climate effort.
“In a world that was turned upside down on Election Day, two things are certain,” said Heather Zichal, who served as Obama’s top climate change adviser until 2013. “One: Corporate polluters and their allies in Congress will continue to fight against progress on the broader climate agenda. Two: The president is and will remain 100 percent committed to his climate action plan and he’ll fight to protect it.”
The kicker for Republicans eager to stomp all over the president’s agenda: Congress has little immediate recourse, despite McConnell’s pledges to use “the spending process” to rein in EPA. With so much action rolling through the pipeline, Republicans will have to choose their battles carefully if they want to make headway while proving they can govern.
In an interview after Election Day, McConnell acknowledged that stopping Obama will be difficult, given the president’s veto power. McConnell has also promised a return to regular order, and Republicans probably won’t want to repeat last year’s government shutdown in hopes of forcing the president’s hand.
“I think that actually preventing EPA from moving forward on the climate change regs will be a challenge,” said industry attorney Jeff Holmstead, who headed the agency’s air office during the George W. Bush administration.
If Congress tries to defang “high profile” regulations like those on carbon emissions, “we would expect the president to veto,” said Cal Dooley, a former Democratic member of Congress who heads the chemical industry’s trade association. “And I don’t expect that you’ll have a two-thirds vote in the Senate to override.”
Greens are counting on Obama to hold the line, especially on climate change.
“We are very confident that he will continue to take the common sense steps necessary to make this strong plan a reality,” League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski said in an email. “That may not please the climate change deniers, but it is the right thing to do for our health, our economy, and our security.”
On the other hand, a GOP-led Congress could pass agency-specific spending bills with riders that undercut rules that seem less important to Obama. Some Republicans think he might swallow an attack on the ozone rule, for example.
Christine Todd Whitman, who served as George W. Bush’s first EPA administrator, said the Republicans’ new Senate leaders will at least try to hobble the agency.
“It’s going to get harder for EPA,” she said. “With Jim Inhofe as chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, I think what they’re going to do is starve the agency.”
EPA is not the only agency pushing new rules, however. The Interior Department is also expected to release a long-delayed draft regulation in the spring that tightens limits on mountaintop-removal coal mining.
And Obama’s negotiators are working on plans for an international global warming agreement, set to be signed in Paris at the end of 2015, that would require the U.S. and other nations to slash greenhouse gas emissions for decades to come.
The U.S. is also expected to announce in the coming weeks how much money it will contribute to an international fund for helping poor countries deal with the effects of global warming. Developed countries have pledged to raise $100 billion a year from government and private sources for that cause by 2020, with some of the money going to the fund. But the prospect of handing billions of dollars in climate aid to the developing world is not going to win much applause from Republicans, who could block the money through the appropriations process.
The U.S. will probably announce its pledge before or during a Nov. 20 meeting in Berlin.
“I think this will be one of the more challenging outcomes of the elections in terms of implementing the administration’s climate plan,” said Heather Coleman, climate change policy manager at Oxfam America.
The administration had previously postponed many of the upcoming regulatory actions, most notoriously with the surprise September 2011 decision to squelch EPA’s proposal to lower its smog limits. That decision blindsided both EPA leaders and environmentalists, and was widely regarded as an effort to defuse a major regulatory controversy before Obama had to run for reelection.
Similarly, EPA issued a proposed rule on coal ash in 2010, but sat on it for nearly four years until a federal court imposed a deadline for this December.
All the glare focusing on Obama’s big climate rules means that other items on his environmental agenda are getting less public attention than they once did. That could aid Republicans’ push to weaken some of regulations through negotiations with the White House and EPA, perhaps with deals to delay rules rather than repeal them outright. But that would depend on McConnell keeping the House from insisting on hardcore anti-EPA bills that would be surefire veto bait.
The word from the Hill “is that McConnell really is interested in trying to show that Republicans can get things done, so I think they’re going to try to come up with some narrow bills where the President could sign,” Holmstead said.
Among other possibilities, Sen. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) hopes to bring up legislation that would shift authority away from EPA on regulating coal ash ponds. Given the agency’s previous reluctance to deal with coal ash at all, the White House might not fight him too hard.
Efforts to tighten ozone regulations are clearly not a top White House priority either, given Obama’s efforts to punt the rule in 2011. But defying the court deadline to finish the rule — “that’s where it’s going to take congressional action,” Dooley said. The manufacturing industry broadly opposes tightening the ozone standards, which it says could make permits more difficult and expensive to obtain.
Former Sen. Tim Wirth, a Democrat who served as the Clinton administration’s top international climate negotiator, thinks Obama will push through his main agenda regardless of what Republicans come up with.
“He’ll just do what he’s going to do anyway,” Wirth said.
Just when you thought he couldn’t get any sadder or pathetic. Just when you thought that maybe his bizarre behavior had bottomed out we get this: Our president now hears voices from beyond.
The Midterm election was a tidal wave of rejection of not just of his policies but of Obama himself. Republican gains were so deep, so widespread that even a reversal of mood in America toward Republicans won’t stop them from remaining in power for years to come.
Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are done. Obama is all alone now. So you would assume, that now, finally he would try to find common ground to work with the House and the Senate to move the nation out of danger…right? Wrong, not now, not ever because he has heard voices telling him not to give in on anything.
Voices have told him that he won the midterm election. He has heard from beyond that the overwhelming majority of Americans gave him a fresh mandate by not voting in the midterms. Listen carefully to his words: “Still, as president, I have a unique responsibility to try and make this town work. So, to everyone who voted, I want you to know that I hear you. To the two-thirds of voters who chose not to participate in the process yesterday, I hear you, too.”
Does he have the gift of interpreting silence? Is he so arrogant that he believes that the message of an election only matters when his side wins?
He is delusional and will now flood us with executive orders that America truly hates. This is a scary delusion to have no matter who you are, but when you are the leader of the free world it is a downright terrifying situation!
Let’s clear the air about something. I write these blogs in obedience to God and out of love for America. If you think that I am petty or outside my jurisdiction then I would suggest that you are not listening or watching what is happening to America.
Moreover, if you are spiritualizing the idea that Obama and his agenda is Gods’ choice for America then I would interject that you are not reading your Bible clearly regarding wicked rulers and the Church’s historic role in “obeying God rather than man.”
We have crossed into territory so dangerous that we are about to reach a point of no return. I have no doubt that God is trying to awaken the American Christians and you in particular to stand against the evil tide and believe God for America to once again be one nation under God.
Today we honor those who paid with their blood and their lives fighting to keep us free from enemies outside the United States. How can we, on this day of all days, remain neutral against the enemies of freedom within the United States? How can we be silent when so dear a price was paid for our freedom to speak out.
Lastly, if you bend time prophecies to justify apathy toward current events then I will charge you with defeatism and unbelief in God’s power to intervene with revival through prayer and preaching.
No one can find the words to describe the devastating tragedy. Nine people died in a plane crash that also took Dr. Myles Munroe, along with his wife Ruth and daughter, Charisa. Millions around the world feel a big hole in their heart.
Connie Carpenter who leads Word of Life Ministries in Ventura California told me that in 2014 Dr. Monroe said something very prescient: “we should die so successfully and leave a legacy behind that is so complete that no one will have to write anything on our tombstone.” He fulfilled that mandate completely. He has left us a body of work that will live on and even continue to expand. His recorded messages, his writings, and the spiritual sons and daughters he raised up are a lasting treasure.
Myles Monroe was a classic teacher. His presentation was so classic that many thought he was being new and revolutionary. The fact is that he simply rightly divided the word of truth and the power of that balanced word struck a deep chord with masses all over the world.
He eschewed the notion that Bible truth needed to be tailored for those who were squeamish or that the Cross and the Blood should be downplayed. He ignored the myth that modern audiences would not listen to extended messages of truth. He could hold an audience’s attention for two hours and more!
His God was at once gigantic, magnificent, generous and demanding. He had a revelation of a Christ that proclaimed that no believer should lead a small life; no one was disqualified from greatness and everyone should be pulled by the gravitational force of their destiny.
People often divide preachers into two categories: Those who preach what the people want to hear and those who preach what the people need to hear. Dr. Myles Monroe occupied a unique third category: He preached what the people needed to hear in a way that made them want to hear it.
World leaders were drawn to him the poor were blessed by him. His revelation could challenge the intellectual and inspire the common man all at once. His life proved that you could be at once joyous, cutting edge and excellent.
We have lost a great man. We must mourn for his family and remember something very urgent: Everyone on that plane was priceless and deeply loved. To all of the loved ones who are coping with this profound loss, we all extend our sincerest condolences and prayers for supernatural comfort from the Holy Spirit.
America is beyond words. Only true signs and wonders will reach them now. Many preachers cry out to God for great signs and wonders in their church services. What is the secret? We can all learn a vital lesson from Mark 6, a lesson that dramatically changed our meetings.
It was almost by accident that I discovered the single truth that would revolutionize our outreaches. Most who have followed our ministry can tell you that there is a clear before and after story about MMM.
It happened when I looked at Mark 6. For some reason I looked at the very beginning and the very end of this chapter and made a startling discovery: The beginning of the chapter records the very worst healing service Jesus ever conducted and the last few verses relate His very best healing service. I had to find out what was going on!
Here are the two contrasts:
Verse 5: “Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.”
Verse 56: “Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.”
Let’s break it down. Why were there so few miracles in his hometown? The stock answer is unbelief. But that does not begin to explain it. Nor does it help us see why there was an opposite extreme at the end of the chapter.
The stock answer is that one group had unbelief and the other had faith. It goes much deeper than that.
What I discovered was that his relatives 3 things wrong did wrong and the people near the end of the chapter did three things right. Here are the verses that show what His relatives did and see if you can guess the problem.
Look at Mark 6:1-6 “Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” So they were offended at Him. 4 But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.” 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.”
Before we say anything else notice that it does not say Jesus “would not do many miracles.” It says that “He could not do many miracles.” The fact is He wanted to heal but met a resistance that stopped miracles. This is a key to the whole matter.
What I discovered was that his relatives did 2 things wrong did wrong and the people near the end of the chapter did 2 things right. Here is what His relatives did wrong
They knew Him so well that they did not know Him at all. They did not think that it was special that Jesus was among them because they did not think He was anything special. They made no special arrangements. There was no sense of anticipation that anything wonderful had come to their town.
Note: This was in fact the only place where Jesus ever went that they did not have the sick laid in the marketplace in anticipation of His coming.
They saw no connection between Jesus and the desperate needs of their village. They sat down and took in the sermon as total spectators staring at an oddity. They did not care about anyone but themselves and could not imagine bringing someone else to Christ. They were his relatives.
Over on the other side of the lake at the end of this chapter the reaction is completely the opposite.
“53 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, 55 ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. 56 Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as any as touched Him were made well.”
They recognized Jesus. The explosive difference is that they recognized Jesus; they didn’t merely “know” Him. The revelation of Jesus, and the implication of what it meant that He was among them, ignited a frenzy of excitement and action. They saw Him as the healer, deliverer and life giver.
They ran and began to carry others to wherever they heard He was. Because they recognized Him they made an instant connection between to the sickness and despair of those they knew and loved. They raced to get the needy to Christ.
Jesus has two kinds of people that relate to Him: Relatives and Worshippers. You are either a Relative or a Worshipper. Entire congregations are either one or the other and the kind of meetings they have extend from their identity.
We began to enforce the fact that Jesus will be present in all of our gatherings and that this meant there was no regular meeting. We instilled the revelation of what it meant to have Him present. We provoked the excitement and expectation to the degree that the people run and get those who need miracles into our meetings. Jesus meets them there everytime!
A new fire has broken out in Santa Rosa. This time there will be now stopping it. Stay tuned because the news of this new flare up is going to go national. Read about how prayed for revival.
Sick of way things are? Here is how to pray for revival.
By Mario Murillo
Habakkuk said it for all of us: “Lord, I have heard of your mighty acts and I stand in awe of them. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3:2)
It is a special moment when you decide to pray for revival. You actually enter into the same covenant with God of the heroes of faith in days past; you join the ranks of everyone from Habakkuk to Evan Roberts.
Let’s begin with a towering consolation: God sought you for revival before you sought Him. In fact, God is ever on the hunt for those who want to prove the power of prayer. “The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose heart is fully committed to Him.” (II Chronicles 16:9) He seeks those who can spark a fire that will change the course of history.
So what is it the first thing He looks for in a person who would pray for revival? He looks for desperation! He seeks somebody who cannot bear the way things are.
In I Samuel: 14 Jonathan and his armor bearer faced a hopeless situation: One million soldiers are coming against them, Jonathan has one of the last swords left in Israel, Israel’s army is just pitiful factions hiding in the holes and rocks.
The next thing that God looks for is conviction.
Something miraculous happens inside of Jonathan. He is reduced to an unshakable conviction: “We are the people of God! We have a history of miraculous comebacks. Our God reigns!” Jonathan and his armor bearer becomes the spark God needs.
Jonathan declares, “Let us go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised fellows. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few!” And after a succession of amazing events that you must read for yourself, the chapter ends by saying: “God granted a great victory to Israel that day.”
