Three reasons why this is exactly the right time to seek revival
By Mario Murillo
This is exactly the right time to seek revival. Here are 3 reasons why:
1. The big SO WHAT in the Bible: Admit past revivals went extreme. Admit most attempts at revival misfire at ignition (many alleged awakenings were actually snooze alarms.) Admit millions of Christians repose in impotent slumber beneath motivational mush. Admit revival camps won’t unify because of their “we-must-lead-the-revival-or-else attitude. Admit current cultural conditions make revival the impossible dream. In short, I say, admit conditions within and without could not be worse for revival…and I say, “SO WHAT!”
Never mind that I said it—Paul said it! “For what (so what) if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.” -Romans 3: 3, 4.
-It’s a lie to say bad attempts at revival mean we should not try again.
-It’s a lie to believe comatose Christianity cannot be jolted back to life.
-It’s a lie to think revival egos cannot be broken down into vibrant unity.
-It’s a lie to believe that our culture—or any other culture for that matter—is greater than the power of God.
In short, let God be true and every “expert” made a liar.
SO WHAT! So what if we deem this the worst of times for revival if—in fact—history shows it is the best of times for a revival. Yea, in these very times, God demonstrates His power.
Clear away the cobwebs…see the burning question: Does anything going on today overrule the power of taking God at His Word?
SO WHAT IF OTHERS HAVE FAILED. DOES THEIR FAILURE MAKE THE PURSUIT OF REVIVAL ANY LESS NOBLE? DOES IT MEAN GOD WILL NOT REWARD US AS HE PROMISED? THE FAILURE IN REVIVAL IS NOT FALLING DOWN BUT IN STAYING DOWN!
2. God sends revival in the worst of times. At key moments when God’s people assume that the darkness will prevail and moral awakening is utterly impossible, God will drop a measure of His Spirit on humanity. This deposit of His life immediately renders people desperate and they stampede to the place of Glory. Simultaneously, God drops a deep and wide spirit of prayer on His people.
Masses instinctively realize that this gift is the cure for their inner agony! Believe me; God knows how to incite reckless abandon on the part of sinners. It is unmistakable when it happens.
Welsey Duewel said, “It is almost as if God’s spiritual fire from heaven has touched down like a powerful tornado of blessing and leaped from place to place. All these divine manifestations have been marked by an unusually widespread awareness of God’s presence, God’s mercy, and God’s transforming power in the lives of people.”
How can a society—as jaded as ours—be the tinder of revival fire? The answer is as simple as hurricanes. The tropical lows create the violent winds. Nature rushes in to fill a vacuum.
Activist judges and liberal leaders have starved America of God! Rather than create a society that is immune, they have inadvertently created a voracious appetite predicted in the Bible. Watch out when the banquet hall of revival opens. There will be a feeding frenzy! Amos 8:11 says, ““Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the Lord.”
3. The return of the true revivalist. Spirits of pride, entitlement and control—in our leaders—are consumed in the fire of awakening. Basic truths—buried under the rubble of profane doctrines and seductive sermons—rise again to gleaming splendor. Brace yourself! Classic preaching on the Cross—the Blood—the second coming of Christ will take center stage in thousands of pulpits.
Beware the revived pastor in all his degree—but beware most of the return of the true revivalist. The devil carries no dread like the dread of the arrival of the true revivalist: unselfish to the core—unstoppable in the pursuit—unswerving in direction.
Satan still licks wounds inflicted by John Wesley, George Whitefield, Charles Finney, Evan Roberts and William Seymour. The devil camouflaged the era of each of these men with suffocating despair. They slashed the stage props and commanded heaven to invade earth.
Beware the arrival of the true revivalist. They will be God-possessed! Simply put, they own a supernatural drive, enthusiasm, excitement, and single-mindedness in pursuit of their destiny. The look in their eye says, “to stop me you’ll have to kill me!” They carry that elusive “fire in the belly” that manifests itself in drive, enthusiasm, excitement, and single-mindedness in pursuit of a goal—any goal. All true revivalists have it. Many well-educated, intelligent, endearing and presentable preachers do not and never will.
Let me adapt Israelmore Ayivor’s words to describe the true revivalist:
-Their critics make them strong!
-Their fears make them bold!
-Their haters make them wise!
-Their foes make them active!
-Their obstacles make them passionate!
-Their losses make them wealthy!
-Their disappointments make them feel appointed!
-Their unseen treasures give them a known peace!
These are three reasons…but we have every reason to drop to our knees right now and begin to ask for the greatest thing we will ask for.
