The Founding Fathers had one grave suspicion. It towered above every other concern they carried. They worked tirelessly to create a document that would forever prevent the monster they dreaded most. It was the galvanizing passion of everyone from Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, to Thomas Jefferson.
Of course, we know they loved liberty. But the Constitution was not just born from their love of freedom, but also their suspicion and dread of something else. That is why they created checks and balances to prevent this horror from happening. What is it?
Before I even tell you what it is, allow me put socialism in an early grave. It has never worked. Venezuela is the current poster child for this. (And please don’t cite Sweden; Swedes will tell you they are a free market economy).
Socialism always destroys incentive to achieve. 100% of the time that socialism has been tried, it has punished tax payers in favor of freeloaders. Benjamin Franklin knew this way back when, that is why he said, “I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion about the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it.”
Socialism never leads the poor out of poverty. It always leads nations to a dictatorship. Socialism must become more and more centralized around a tyrant. This is because of the draconian measures that must be taken to keep feeding the debt. That is why you can’t name a fully leftist nation without a dictator.
Socialists never know how to pay for their fantasies. Right now, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and her ilk are focused on taxing billionaires. Do you really believe, if they get their way, they will leave you alone? When their programs drain trillions and have sucked the treasury dry—they are going to tax the life out of everyone. No wonder Margaret Thatcher said, “Socialism doesn’t work because eventually you run out of other people’s money.”
But as compelling as those facts are, they pale beside the central point of this blog. And there’s good reason, socialists never talk about this. It is the chief flaw in their thinking, and it is inescapable. Here it is: they have a blind trust in the State.
So, socialists like Bernie Sanders would take the money by force and give it to the state. How do they know the State will use it as promised? Look at the vast corruption and waste of government with checks and balances. Imagine what would happen when socialism does away with that. Socialists naively believe that government will fairly and efficiently distribute the funds that were taken by force from hard working tax payers.
Why would anyone believe that? When has that ever happened? Again, our constitution was written by men who suspected runaway government above all else. Just ask any socialist why they trust the state so blindly and watch the reaction.
Socialism was Benjamin Franklin’s greatest fear and it hadn’t even been invented yet. Franklin was foretelling the horror of socialism when he said, “once the people learn they can vote money to themselves the republic would be done for.” Trusting a socialist system to handle our money is like asking the weasel to guard the chicken coop.
