Once in a while someone will say something that is not just true…it is SO true. That someone said, “if you think healthcare is expense now, just wait till it’s free.” I add, just wait until you see that bleeding the rich gets you nowhere. Just wait until you see how a Leftist dictatorship and not a pot of gold is at the end of the Socialist rainbow.
Just wait until you see how everything gets more expensive and scarce—especially freedom. Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.” If he is right, then wanting to try Socialism again is insanity—because it has never produced a different result.
Los Angeles is not even Socialist yet and they are already demonstrating Leftist insanity. They have 41,000 homeless Americans on their streets, but they have opened their border to the poor of other nations to come join the devastation. Not only that, they give more to the foreign poor than to their own poor.
Socialism is the comfort food of the exhausted and the frightened. Our youth are too tired to try. They are overwhelmed by the ethic that leads to success. In their stupor, it feels attractive to let someone else take care of you.
How can they believe something so implausible is plausible? We could blame the legalization of pot. But the attraction to Socialism is never noble. It is not the lofty and courageous aspiration of a pioneer, an inventor, or a warrior.
In their fatigue it is easy to give in to fantasies of soaking the rich to pay for college, a guaranteed stipend to live on. Esau was too drained and hungry to catch the trick Jacob was playing on him. One warm meal was all it took for him to give away his birthright.
We are in a war and it makes me cringe to think that a nation that survived a Civil War and two World Wars may die at the hands of ‘free stuff’. Yet, there is no doubt that there is a clear and present danger.
Our universities and colleges are incubators of lunacy where Socialism can seem promising. It is on campus that you find those who are so frightened and feel so victimized that an opposing view is the same as violence.
Consider this example from David Limbaugh:
“If you think the Left hasn’t taken over university life in America, you are probably not paying close enough attention or in denial. I’m not just talking about the liberalism of the professors and the core curriculum, but about all of college life. There are glaring examples of Leftist extremism everywhere you turn, and they’re so loony that even sane liberal parents should be concerned.
In September, a Michigan State University student awoke from his nap to an apparently unbearable sight, according to The College Fix. His roommate was watching a video of conservative commentator Ben Shapiro. I can guess what some of you must be thinking as you read this: “I sure am glad my kids were never exposed to such provocations, such obnoxious, inconsiderate and uncaring roommates.”
You are probably also thinking, “But if my kid had been the subject of such a triggering event, I hope he would have had the presence of mind to exercise self-help and extricate himself from the hostile environment.”
In this instance, the innocent victim didn’t react violently. He calmly booted up his own computer and filed a complaint against his roommate with the administration’s bias reporting system. Kind of makes you well up with vicarious pride, no? As a parent you will also be gratified to learn that the university dutifully dispatched an investigator to dig into this urgent matter and to work for a “room change if the claimant would like one.””
A generation who are afraid of their own shadow will welcome Socialism. They will sign over their rights. They will accept a dictatorship.
If ever you prayed for America you need to pray this way: God, break the spell of demons over the minds of Americans who would so easily give away their rights in exchange for a false cure. God help us to remember that a paycheck is freedom and government handouts are a lethal narcotic. Open hearts to see how this scourge destroys dignity, incentive, and sanity.
Every voter will have to choose between freedom or free stuff. You can’t have both. We had better wake to the reality that we will not die at the hands of North Korea, Russia, or even China, but at the hands of our own children. We will not die from bombs but a national debt that will swallow us whole.
Finally, God hates Socialism for the one thing that it does: It takes charity and love and throws it out in favor of a cold government agency. It takes away the joy of giving and replaces it with obligations and a secret resentment for the poor who gets the money – that has been taken from the rich by force.
Dorothy L. Sayers was an Anglican Theologian and a close friend of C.S. Lewis, said this, “The difference is, with the true church, support (for the poor) is a Gospel concern, with gifts of compassion and care; with government, it is a legal issue, and the money is exacted from the rich in taxes. The sad consequence is that love is thereby eliminated, and replaced by law and civic duty.” Socialism indeed kills love.
What the church should be doing, caring for the poor out of love, is instead now cold and institutional. What Christianity does is give freely and infuses the poor with the gifts that lift them from poverty: dignity and the miracle of a changed heart.
A Leftist pointed to a man in poverty and remarked to Billy Graham, “Communism will put a new suit on that man.” Billy replied, “But Christ will put a new man in that suit.”
