This letter from Scott Hinkle really nails it.

An open letter to Contemporary American Evangelists- (myself included)

By Scott Hinkle

The office of evangelist is an equally important part of the Ephesians 4:11 & 12 listing of 5-fold ministry gifts. There most certainly is a legitimate role of an evangelist to the church in stirring, equipping for evangelism, etc.
Yet it must be clearly understood, the great distinctive to the gift /office of evangelist is that they are called to be the voice to the lost declaring the gospel & calling them to Christ.
The other Ep.4:11 offices are church oriented being both inward and infrastructure focused.
The evangelist should be focused upon the outside world at large where the unsaved and unchurched live.
If that be true, why then is there amongst some evangelists a seemingly inordinate amount of energy spent in complaining about a perceived lack of recognition by other church leaders? As if other church leaders determine the call of God.
Would the effort and energy be better invested prayerfully and even creatively looking for ways to invade the darkness outside the four walls of church buildings instead of concentrating and at times whining about what is perceived as a lack of acknowledgement from peers? Or does the contemporary version of American evangelist seek validation by being invited to preach primarily in Christian gatherings or to be put another way— fish in bathtubs?
The great evangelists of history – both old and new- risked venturing into deep waters and at times unsafe stormy seas to be fishers of men.
Would not those be great models to follow after if our hearts truly were consumed with a passion to make Christ known to the least and fully lost men, women and children of our times? This necessitates leaving the safe harbor of “church-dom” and to quote the great missionary evangelist T.L. Osborn going “out where the sinners are.”
This letter does not come from a critical spirit but from a soul crying out on behalf of a broken culture and dying world. The darkness of our era is desperate for the light of Christ.
Now, more than ever, there must be another great awakening.
This is a call to not only raise the bar higher for evangelists but to extend a challenge to drastically expand the horizons of our perspective, vision and practice.
Grace to all sharing Good News.
A co-laborer and fellow servant,
Scott Hinkle

YOU ARE THE VICTIM OF A PREDICTION

They put their hands over their ears to try to drown out the noise. A growing number of believers are feeling like a volcano about to erupt. They feel total disgust toward fleshly religion. They despise the impotent actions of ‘Christianity Incorporated.’  A burgeoning conviction is intensifying in them that modern pulpiteering is inadequate for these perilous times..  They know there has got to be something deeper—something that is real.  They are sick of the church in exile always apologizing, but most of all they feel an indescribable pull taking them to a secret place in God.

If that describes you, let me congratulate you.  Let me explain your condition.  You are under the influence of a bulldozer called prophecy. You are the victim of a prediction.

Your condition runs against the grain of the horrendous days we are living in. My letters and emails tell me horror stories of fear and retreat.  Dreams are being postponed or cancelled outright.  Expansion is now guilty, until proven innocent. Young people are acting like they are old and afraid. Once bold leadership-lions are retreating and looking for safe landing spots.

But there is a remnant that feels just the opposite. They sense that as hard and as dark as these times are, God is up to something big, and it is something He has had in mind for a long time. They believe they are in preparation for an inexpressible event.   I am not talking about all those other prophecies that so many are claiming to have.  This is totally different.

You probably agree that too many so-called “prophetic words” today are actually pathetic counterfeits. You reject the shenanigans of those flashy self-serving false prophets. You see through the mind-games they use to prey on the gullible.  However, you have not given up. You know there is true prophecy because it has a grip on you that won’t let go.  Here is what you need to know about prophecy.

Prophecy swallows policy. Every generation is guided by two forces: Policy and Prophecy. Policy consists of the laws and edicts of man. Prophecy always swallows policy. Christmas is a vivid example.  No doubt Caesar Augustus felt sovereign over the earth when he ordered the world to be registered.  His policy seemed to force Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem.  But policy was simply serving prophecy, namely:

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.  (Micah 5:2).

True prophecy is a bulldozer that overrules the plans of both man and Satan.  Prophecy is the WORD which comes from the mouth of God and will prevail when all the dust settles and the smoke clears.  Each of the mad ravings of society will bow down before the purposes of God.

The bulldozer of prophecy is not moved by the mad railings of potentates and tyrants.  It is impervious to weather, economic downturns, and persecution.  The treads of prophecy roll over the plans of men, the intentions of armies, and the highest threats of mankind. Prophecy is the fire that cannot be snuffed out.  Isaiah 40:8 declares “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Forget about everything else. Here are the questions that matter:  What has God said He would do in our time?  What has He promised?  What has He commanded?  Your passion to learn His intention for you and for this, your time, is of supreme importance.

Prophecy waits in secret—for a core that is willing to pay the price to know the secret of the Lord.

“Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7)

“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him; and He will show them His covenant. (Psalm 25:14)

The prophetic bulldozer creates an inner tenacity where, suddenly, the facts of daily life don’t count.  Quietness pervades your soul because you know beyond knowing that something unstoppable has begun to grow out of your closeness to Christ.

Those who are God’s secret weapons may not even know it yet.   They have no idea of the tactical wisdom and the miracle power that will enfold them at the very moment they need it.  All they know is that they are being pulled into the tabernacle of God, into the Most Holy Place.

You can feel it… a deep calling unto deep.  You have been ruined for the mediocre and deep in your heart you want to know Him…to be with Him…and stay separated unto Him for a plan that is as yet unseen.

Prophecy is even now unleashing its power.  When the enemy is least prepared, in an hour not yet seen, God’s Spirit will strike.

God is going to do something that no one can possibly fathom.  He is going to pour out a river of Life.  Some will be in the middle of it, others will miss it entirely.  None of the current events we are witnessing will foretell the might and glory that will be expressed by the Holy Spirit.

Take heart!  God has honored you by letting you live in troubled times.  The greatest vessels of God have appeared in times of calamity and confusion. Today’s trouble is your opportunity to be your best, to be more than you ever imagined you could be.  All of this is because of a bulldozer called prophecy!

WHY WE DON’T COMPROMISE

At Mario Murillo Ministries we see things differently because we were born different.  From the very first we faced persecution.   While I was still in high school I preached in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco—ground zero for the ‘love and peace’ movement.  Moving across the Bay to Berkeley meant going from the frying pan into the fire.

The instant we hit Berkeley we had to decide:  What we would preach?  How would we preach it?  Then, as now, people were trying to create a Godless utopia.

If our message was of human origin, or if there were even a speck or a flaw in its nature, the crucible of Berkeley would have blown it to smithereens.  Instead, unexplainable power appeared at each point where the ministry was threatened.  Something out of this world would always step in and provide words, resources, ideas and miracles, exactly when we needed them.

Not once in that cauldron of revolution, did we feel the need to rebrand Christ, or present a ‘new and improved’ Gospel.

For years, there has been a rising tide calling for Christians to “keep your faith to yourself.”  Many modern pastors—and even the Pope—have joined the chorus asking Christians to ‘tone it down.’ Yet our tent is packed with the very people who are supposed to be turned off by a direct approach.

Consequently, many churches have retreated into a cultural bubble where they do everything but preach the Gospel.  We have entertained, amused, inspired and distracted, but we have not converted America.  Because of this, the average Christian can defend neither their faith, nor marriage, and cannot even state why the Bible is the inspired word of God.

The original reason that the Church adopted this “indirect approach” was to get society to like us.  What we got was just the opposite.  Our compromised message has fueled greater contempt for the Church.

The media is now maligning the message of Jesus every day.  Francis Spufford said, “They think we believe in a load of Bronze Age absurdities. We promise the oppressed ‘pie-in-the-sky’ when they die; we are too stupid to understand why what we believe is irrational, and we are savagely judgmental.”

Atheists call us a threat to human progress.  Secular progressives condemn us as hating the poor, homosexuals, and women.

How is it possible, that after all the work we have put into removing the “offensive” parts of our message, that society is even more offended?  The answer is that there is a small but loud faction that hates Christ.

We at Mario Murillo Ministries violently, totally, and utterly disagree with the notion that we should ‘tone down’ the Gospel in America.  There are millions of innocent bystanders who have not rejected Christ.  They are simply caught in the middle between haters telling lies and the misfiring sermons of voices that are too timid to tell the truth.  We must take our message to these millions who are trapped in the middle. This is why the answer is not to ‘tone it down’ but to turn it up!

The same Holy Spirit that outfitted our ministry to face the city of Berkeley will equip us to mount a fresh invasion of our nation.

Now let me get to the goal of this letter.  We have learned through every trial and breakthrough that God does not just give guidance, He also gives a plan.

We have a plan.  I can say without apology that this plan has come to us from the Holy Spirit.  Again and again, the Spirit of God has used events in the Bible as a model for what we should do. The verses below reveal a three-point plan that was given by an angel to the disciples when the church was gravely threatened.

17 “But the high priest rose up and all who were his supporters, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and being filled with jealousy and indignation and rage, 18 they seized and arrested the apostles (special messengers) and put them in the public jail. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and, leading them out, said, 20 “Go, take your stand in the temple courts and declare to the people all the words of this Life.” (Acts 5:17-20)

Embedded in those simple words, are our instructions for facing the onslaught of the current leftist revolution in America.

1.Take a stand. We cannot judge other ministries. We can only answer for what God asks us to do. He has ordered us to take a stand.  There is no confusion about what the angel was asking the men of God to do.  He was telling them to stand their ground in their nation.  This is not just a physical act, it is also moral and spiritual. We must take a stand against Satan’s agenda for America and we must take a stand for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We take a stand because we belong in the national conversation.  America has a drug, divorce, suicide, anger, and atheism problem.  Our voice needs to be heard because we carry the most immediate and effective cure for everything that is hurting America.  The angel was reinforcing to the apostles that their message was valid and urgent. And so is ours today.

2. Take your stand in the temple courts. Ours is not an obscure message that should be whispered in the secret places of society. The temple courts were the heart of Jerusalem. The angel was clearly instructing them to raise their voices in the very center of their culture.

In that same way we must go where the people are and where the biggest lies are being told.  The angel gave them an exact location to take their stand and that location spoke volumes to the apostles.  God is serious about making a difference in the culture.

This is why the tent is perfect. It is a movable miracle that can be pitched in the areas where pain and misery are unchallenged.

3.Tell all of the words of this Life. What a scathing rebuke to ‘popular’ Christianity. While Christian celebrities scurry to and fro to find buzzwords to replace the core doctrines of the Bible, here is an angel telling the apostles that they must tell all the words of this Life. They cannot leave out a single benefit or a single one of the demands of the message of Jesus Christ.

How right that angel was.  There is life in those words.  There is life in the blood of Christ, the cross and the resurrection.  There is such powerful and amazing life in them that no mountain of eloquence or cunningly devised sermon can begin to match.

If only we would learn to brave the offense of the cross in our preaching!  We would find that very soon the supernatural life of God would overtake our preaching and create miracles in people that infinitely surpassed the results of the current ‘seeker-friendly’ preaching.  Society would not care about the demands in our message because of the changes they would see in their souls, minds and bodies.

In city after city, we will take a stand in the heart of that city and tell all the words of this Life! NO COMPROMISE!

SHOCKING BREAKTHROUGH

What God did last night can’t be described as just ‘a good meeting.’ This is something far beyond a good meeting. Dinuba knows—I mean the whole city knows—that something supernatural is happening in the tent!

Not only did they jam the tent, they filled it to its maximum capacity. We had taken the precaution of bringing two truckloads of chairs. We didn’t anticipate that we would need all of them, but as it turned out, it was barely enough.

Now, due to the excitement that tonight’s meeting has generated, we will have to make a third trip to get more chairs. Tomorrow night (Monday, October 7, 2019) has been announced as a miracle service. There is absolutely no doubt that an army of God’s people will scour the area to bring in those who need a miracle.

The way God’s people took the challenge, I fully expect them to be just like those who sought out the Lord: 54 “And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized (Jesus), 55 ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to where they heard He was. 56 Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.” (Mark 6:54-56)

The sermon that came thundering out of me tonight in Dinuba was the most forceful challenge I have ever unleashed on an audience. I began with a question. “Who knows when it will ever be this way again? Whatever you do, you must do now.  Whatever changes you need to make in your schedule, you need to make them now.”

I repeat that challenge to you: The worst mistake you can make is to think this meeting is about Mario Murillo, or worse, to think it is a good event rather than a once in a lifetime encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ. Whatever you do, you must do now.  Whatever changes you need to make in your schedule, you need to make them now.

Churches are unified. Workers are abundant. We are on a site granted by the city of Dinuba, California itself. That is extraordinary favor!

Our greatest crime would be a partial response to a total blessing. Pastors, I must exhort you not to seek self-preservation. This is way bigger than just your church. God is up to something far greater than church growth. You must seize the moment when God has placed the arrows of deliverance in your hand:

2 King 13: 15 And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and some arrows.” So he took himself a bow and some arrows. 16 Then he said to the king of Israel, “Put your hand on the bow.” So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands. 17 And he said, “Open the east window”; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “Shoot”; and he shot. And he said, “The arrow of the Lord’s deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them.” 18 Then he said, “Take the arrows”; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground”; so he struck three times, and stopped. 19 And the man of God was angry with him, and said, “You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times.”The king of Israel made a partial response to a total harvest, as did Simon Peter:

Luke 5:4 “When (Jesus) had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”We must fully obey the Lord.

We must let down all the nets.  Let down the nets of time. Let down the nets of influence. Let down the nets of zeal.

We must know the hour of our visitation. This meeting will either be remembered as a massive breakthrough or as a tragically missed opportunity—missed because we allowed unimportant things to be more important than the things of the Kingdom of God.

After my initial challenge to those in the tent, I went on to speak to those who were unsaved, telling them, “You need to know when God is sending you help. Come forward now in total surrender.”  I was told that 150 came forward to be born again, but, as always, only God knows the true number. As the Word of God says, when His Spirit comes upon you, you will never be the same:

1 Samuel 10:6 “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you.”

What happened tonight is going to make history. I guarantee it! My greatest challenge will be getting to sleep tonight. This is because a vibrant, fiery army is out there at work. They are going to bring the sick and lost to the tent. I will be kept awake by the thought that what was once just a vivid dream about Highway 99—the Corridor of Glory—is now a powerful reality, and is in no way daunted by the ‘impossibility’ of revival coming to California.

Stay tuned!  God is just getting started!

Greatest Question

As you read this our tent is going up. Thousands know we are coming. A rare kind of unity exists between leaders here, and an amazing anticipation is in the air. We have more volunteers and prayer warriors for this event than any previous tent crusade. There is a buzz on the streets.

Many who are involved in this outreach are starting to talk about an awakening. They seem to sense that we could see a revival—and they don’t mean just ‘a good meeting’—they mean a moral outbreak that could sweep an entire region into the kingdom of Christ. I am talking about Dinuba, California.

So tonight I am pondering a great question: What starts a revival?

Here we are, two thousand years after the church began, and Christian theologians still don’t know what starts a revival.   Authors by the dozens release new books to tell us what the “steps for revival” are.  No sooner are they out, than the Spirit falls in a manner that totally contradicts their books.   As soon as we add a “step” to revival, God steps over our step…

Often past revivals are no help because history shows that the old revival usually opposes the new revival.  It seems dangerous to be tagged an expert on revival.  As the old rock song says, “If I claim to be a wise man then it surely means that I don’t know.”

Revivals have started in more ways than you or I can imagine.  Some began among children.  Some started in prisons. Some were touched off by the very people the church despised the most.  Has God kept us clueless about revival because He knows that anything that we can analyze we will try to control? It is certainly in us to do that, and there is no getting around it.

So why isn’t the devil happy?  We are divided, disorganized and ignorant of his devices.  There is no major threat of revival in America, am I right?  But the evil one does not relax.  Does he know something we don’t know?   Like maybe revival has never been actually caused by the church?  Does he remember how many times revivals have hit him by surprise?  Does Satan respect one aspect of revival more than we do—that revival can strike at any moment, in any place, through any believer?

Okay, let’s face it, it is truly beyond us to know how to start a revival, and Satan doesn’t know how to stop one.  That, dear pilgrim, is called an impasse.  Only God can break the tie.  So what can we do?  Brace yourself:  WE NEED TO LOOK AT GOD!

Satan is watching God more than he is watching us because we, my friend, are not the threat.  Here is a love/hate triangle:  God is looking at us, we are looking at the devil, and the devil is looking at God.

WE NEED TO LOOK AT GOD.  Get this, and you have taken a giant step forward.  We need to be watching God.  But that is so simple and obvious.  So, if it is that simple and obvious, then why aren’t we doing it?  Why in fact are we doing everything else but that?  Again, is it because Satan knows how to busy us with stuff that seems holy, but is irrelevant to revival?

Even our prayers are often not directed at God.  They are merely a set of statements we have been told to make, and statements we have been told will supposedly cause God to work.  Face it! God refuses to operate within our formulas.  He operates from a secret:  “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.” (Psalm 25:14)

God is looking for a relationship with those who want revival.  Exodus 31:18 is a strange verse.  It says, “And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon Mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.”  Israel has been waiting for centuries to gain legitimacy, because with the Law comes an identity and a legacy.  So why does God instead delay it for weeks so He can commune with Moses?  Here’s the rub: You want revival, but God wants you.

Is it possible that in all of our arduous efforts we have overlooked the most amazing simplicity in the entire universe:  “If you abide in Me and My Words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done.” (John 15:7)  Can it be that simple?

Revival is the natural result of getting so close to God that His secret takes hold and that ignites a chain reaction with others who suddenly cannot live without intimacy with God, and so and so on.

When can we know that revival has started?  In my studies, I have noticed a common denominator among the great revivalists who have led the great revivals.  They had an unshakable conviction that a revival had already started.  No matter what anyone said or did, they would not back down from the confession “revival is here!”   Much of their preaching was devoted to this conviction.

Jesus said, “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!”  (John 4:35)

Revival-starters kept an infectious declaration going, no matter what.  Though the people around them felt that revival was months or years away, the revivalist says, “NO! IT IS ALREADY HERE!”

Again I ask, when can we know that a revival has started?  I got my answer one day at the beach when the tide was out.  Gentle white foam tickled my toes.  And the still small voice of the Lord spoke to me, “No matter how small that wave is, it is an ocean wave.  It is a relative of the tsunami.”

Yes, a tidal wave can travel at 500 miles per hour, yet it is still nothing but an ocean wave, just larger.

“A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.” (Matthew 12:20).   This verse is saturated with much meaning, but I will limit myself to the part about the smoking flax.  Jesus is not going to put out any fire, no matter how insignificant it looks, until justice is victorious.

The first time you cried out for America to be saved, God took you at your word and started a revival fire in you. The first syllable that was spoken in prayer for revival at any gathering where women prayed, began the revival.  The first time a pastor told his people how much we need revival, the spark was ignited.

The job now is to cooperate with God for bigger and bigger and bigger waves.  The tide rises as the revival core pays the price of obedience.   If they keep to the intention of the revival, it will intensify.  If they refuse the hand of man, and the ways of Baal, the waves will continue to come, in faithful and ever increasing power.

How else can I say it?  You are a revival-starter, simply by wanting more of Jesus!

Now a special video message from Mario Murillo about what starts this Sunday

IT IS NOW

American preaching has reached a do-or-die moment

In pulpits all over the world, thousands of sermons will be preached to millions of people. Some of it will do more harm than good—way more than you know.

Please believe that I am not taking a swipe at all preachers. Most preachers are sincere men and women of God. However, these worthy voices are often drowned out by the modern preaching which leaves out the Cross of Christ, the Blood of Christ, and Bible verses that deal with sexual sin, and hell. And that is far more dangerous than you know. It has contributed to the moral/political ignorance of millions of believers and can cost us our freedom as Americans.

The modern preachers who leave all this out do it because they say they want to offer hope. Hope is their big word. Here and now, I am accusing them of offering at best an inferior hope, and at worst, a false hope–a very dangerous false hope.

Paul the Apostle had a totally opposite view about preaching hope. He said, “Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech.” (2 Corinthians 3:12). To give hope, these preachers leave out the truth. Paul believed that to give hope, you must leave it all in.

He said in Ephesians 6:19, “(pray) for me, that utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.” Twice in this passage, he refers to boldness.

Again, in 2 Corinthians 4, he detailed why it is such a disaster to leave anything out: 1 “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”

Any preacher who handles the Word of God deceitfully and puts a veil over it makes himself a villain to lost souls. Worse still, that preacher is in partnership with the devil.  When they put a veil over truth, they invite Satan to blind people to it.

Every day we are losing ground because of this artificial preaching.  There is a reason the Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of truth. You cannot be anointed unless you are telling the truth.

Here is what this preaching has cost us so far: Because the church did not take a unified Biblical stand on sexual immorality, the Left has systemically canonized the lie that Christian doctrine is hate speech.

Chick-Fil-A has been banned from opening an outlet at several airports. What did they do wrong? They stood by their Christian values and they gave money to Christian groups. City boards voted to shut them down because they gave to “hate” organizations. Had we taken a stand, we would not be in this bind.

More damage: these modern preachers have made their congregations biblically illiterate. That is why a huge number of Christians including famous “gospel” singers don’t know the values of the Christian faith—don’t know how to answer their culture—don’t see anything wrong with abortion or same sex marriage—and don’t know enough to vote for righteous laws and leaders.

Let’s get back to the issue of hope.  I am asking these preachers a simple question: how can you say you are bringing hope, if you leave out the truths which carry that hope?

Here is what I mean: real hope comes from true conversion. Only the soul that has repented and utterly opened their hearts to new life can feel the surpassing hope of Christ.

Let me show some examples of true hope.

The Cross. Until someone realizes that they are lost—until they have been broken by encountering the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary, the true hope of Christ cannot take hold of them. But, brother, when it does take hold, it is awesome to see!  You will have a convert who is in church for all the right reasons. You have a walking miracle that is contagious.

The Blood of Christ. Only those souls who know that the Blood has been applied to their sin, can feel clean—a moral clean that nothing else can give them. Moreover, the most dangerous young convert is the one who knows they have power over the devil.

“And they overcame (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives unto death.” (Revelation 12:11)

Sexual sin: Millions of people who genuinely want deliverance can’t find it because society has normalized their behavior. But that does not change the damage. For example, the suicide rate for transgender people is 33 times higher than the general population.

People look at verses such as 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, and call them hateful—but take another look: 9 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you, once. But you were washed clean, and you were set apart unto God, and you were pronounced righteous, by trusting in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Holy Spirit of our God.”

There are two takeaways here:

1.Sin is sin. Theft, murder, idolatry, drunkenness, and all of the various sexual sins, are listed side by side.

2.Paul ends this passage by describing true deliverance from sin. Salvation in Christ offers hope of cleansing, sanctification, and justification. That hope is not available if we do not clearly confront the issue.

The kind of hope that the misguided modern sermon offers is, in reality, little or no hope. They tout the good life. But if that is hope, then why are billionaires killing themselves? Besides, what are we doing advancing the same lie as the world?

When the lukewarm believer leaves church on Sunday morning, they are swooning in the superficial glow of the happy sense that God is not mad at them. What they don’t have is the blazing reality of being set free and filled with peace that passes all understanding. They lack the power to answer a sick world’s cry for help.

These ‘happy time’ sermons must stop now. They are as much of a threat to America as the leftist radicals. THE BIBLE NEEDS TO SET FIRE TO OUR SERMONS!.

Every night, under our tent we kill the lies contained in these modern sermons by proclaiming true hope. Lost souls hear truth under the power of the Holy Spirit. God confirms the Word with miracles and the un-churched come running forward to receive new life.  Glory to God!

Remember this…Paul said that it was because of the greatness of the hope we have that we are bold to tell all the truth!

Amen.

Just when Satan thought he was safe

A highly visible worship leader defects from the faith. A million-seller Christian-influencer denies Christ. Social media blocks churches. A national frenzy for immorality. Millions raging in anger against believers.

Satan believes he is safe against the prospect of revival. He could not be more wrong—and the pessimists in the church could not be more wrong.

Revival struck London through John Wesley when everyone thought it was impossible.   One out of every seven houses in London was a house of prostitution.  More people were attending séances than church.  Nearly 100,000 children lived in slums like animals.  The London Times had not mentioned Christmas for decades…not even once.

After the revival, England became the missionary leader to the world.

Revival struck Kentucky when it was unthinkable.  This was the most lawless state in the union.  There was no police force.  Every criminal on the run headed for Kentucky.  Murder, rape, and alcoholism were pandemic.  Revival flipped Kentucky so violently that it became the most zealously Christian State in America.

The early twentieth century was a far more skeptical era than today.  The blush of Darwinism and Marxism was so feverish that it was a foregone conclusion that Christianity would go away altogether. Scientists declared the Age of Reason and solemnly assured us that religion would be a thing of the past by the 1920s.

Imagine in that atmosphere, if you were to have said in 1906, “A one eyed black man is going to rent an old and dingy horse livery on Azusa Street in downtown Los Angeles, and start a movement that will engulf nearly 600 million people worldwide.”  The men in white would have been sent to collect you.

The point is that revivals are impossibleuntil they happen.

You should also know what the church was preaching in those darkest moments before the awakenings began.  Pulpits were filled with pessimists who, instead of rebuking the despair, joined in the chorus.  They declared the day of revival to be over!  But, even that did not stop God.

How is it that revival can strike without warning in the most unpromising times and grow in the hardest soil?  The answer is that when darkness is intense, we tend look at the wrong indicators.  It’s not that there are no warning signs that revival is coming, it is simply that we do not know them when we see them because the fear is so loud.

Look at today.  Do you see any signs of revival?  Most would say, “Absolutely not!”  They would say all of the same things that people have said prior to every outpouring of God: Revival cannot come because the times are too evil.

That is the argument today.  We have legalized gay marriage. We have legalized drugs. And we are even toying with Islam.  Many of our leaders are delusional snowflakes that are bent on finding the best ways to drive us to extinction.  Churches are closing and thousands of ministers are leaving the ministry every year.  You know the rest, because you have heard it a hundred times.

Atheists are boasting that the whole world in general is becoming secular and anti-supernatural.  The facts are just the opposite.  It is a very religious world, far more religious than it was 50 years ago.

Consider these statistics from sociologist Rodney Stark:

Gallup World Poll Surveys of more than a million people living in 163 nations show that:

  • 81 percent claim to belong to an organized religious faith, and most of the rest report engaging in religious activities such as prayer or making offerings to the gods in various “folk religion” temples.
  • 74 percent say religion is an important part of their daily lives.
  • 50 percent report they have attended a place of worship or religious service in the past seven days.
  • In very few nations do as many as five percent claim to be atheists, and only in China, Vietnam, and South Korea do they exceed 20 percent.
  • Furthermore, in every nook and cranny left by organized faiths, all manner of unconventional spiritual and mystical practices are booming.
  • There are more occult healers than medical doctors in Russia.
  • 38 percent of the French believe in astrology.
  • 35 percent of the Swiss agree that “some fortune tellers really can foresee the future.”
  • Nearly everyone in Japan is careful to have their new car blessed by a Shinto priest.

To be sure, little of this is Christian, but it is undeniable that the waters of supernatural hunger are being stirred worldwide.

Another sign is the evil within people themselves.   For example, Saul of Tarsus was at the peak of his terror-attacks on the church when he was violently converted. What no one but God knew was that there was a growing desperation inside of this Pharisee, who would soon become Paul the Apostle.   In a similar way, societies are often at their worst right before revival.

What we do not want to do is miss revival when it hits!

Dark times can absorb our faith in the power of God.  Many believers find themselves in a condition that is truly worse than they ever imagined.  Pangs of fear grip men of God who were once lions in the pulpit.  We invent doctrines that fit our disappointment.  We build ministries based on our lowered expectations.

You need a healthy respect for how the power of dark times can rob us of faith.  It has happened to the best of us.

500 people saw Jesus Christ ascend into the clouds.  Think about that.  In the face of such absolute proof that Jesus was the Son of God, how could they ever doubt?

As He ascended He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Holy Spirit.  Surely they would wait…right?  Astonishingly, only 120 were still waiting in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost.  How is it possible in the face of so great an assurance that those eyewitnesses would falter and abandon their posts?

Their world was filled with sudden terror from a wicked king, oppression from religious leaders, and tyranny from Roman occupiers.  Their daily grind absorbed their zeal for the promises of God.

Do not be like those 380 people who missed one of the greatest moments in history.  Here are two things that you need to confess and say to your spirit, so that you will not leave the upper room.

Either it was always true or it was never true. Times do not alter truth. A lack of money does not change God’s word about prosperity.  Sickness does not nullify the fact of God’s healing power.  The evil of men does not overrule the supremacy of Christ.  If God has made you promises, these dark times cannot stop their fulfillment.

Here is an example of that: 1 Samuel 17:34, “But David said to Saul, ‘Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

It is easy to say that evil today is more intense and sophisticated than ever before.  But, neither Saul nor Israel had ever faced anything like Goliath before.  David said that it did not matter; this new threat would have the same outcome as all of the previous threats God had given him victory over!

Jesus is telling us to wait for the power that is about to break out, no matter what.  Does revival look totally impossible to you?  Don’t worry, revivals all look that way until they happen.
