Starting a righteous rebellion against gloom and doom
By Mario Murillo
What do some gloom and doom preachers and some prosperity preachers have in common? As opposite as their teachings may seem—they have this in common: they are both teaching Christians to hide. They are both influencing believers to live dangerously below their potential. They are both seducing the army of God away from an attack on evil.
The gloom and doom preacher is right about world events. Times are bad—the Bible said they would be bad. We have reason to believe that our money will be worthless and food could be in short supply. Then their logic breaks down: Do you want to be that house on the block that has all the food during a famine? What about sharing with others?
We are a supernatural family. Are we supposed to be holed-up in a cabin during America’s darkest hour? Should we be gearing up for survival or revival?
Some prosperity preachers do the exact same thing—they just use different words. They want you to hide in possessions and a giddy life that is built on sand. They think that is “being negative” to take a stand against abortion, Obama and the moral landslide of America.
Here is an example of how they get people to live below their potential. A famous prosperity teacher used this verse for his sermon: “Jesus went about doing good healing all who were oppressed of the devil for God was with him”-Acts 10:38. Then with a wistful smile he says, that what I want…a congregation that goes about doing good. Let’s be busy bringing pies to the shut in. Let’s help the elderly by mowing their lawns, let’s help a blind person cross the street.
Who can find fault with doing those things? But that’s just it…Jesus went about healing the sick and casting out devils. Of course we need to do good deeds but Acts 10:38 speaks of much higher deeds—it speaks of supernatural power—something our nation is desperate to see.
In this case the hyper-prosperity message is in fact gloom and doom because it sets a limit on the impact a child of God can have on evil. That is why I say that both of these preachers are getting the army of God to hide when we need to stand….when we need to embrace our weapons and authority against evil. Victory—true victory is our only option.
-We can’t hide even if we want to. Jesus said a city set on a hill cannot be hidden. –Matthew 5:14.
–We must work because the night is coming. Jesus said, “We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” -John 9: 4
Many preachers are in a stupor and need electrode paddles to wake them up. This is not a time for fear or frivolity. It is the time to become armed and dangerous in the power of the Holy Spirit to tear down demonic strongholds over America.
It is time for the church to shake off self-pity, fear and denial. America is being destroyed and the army of God is barricaded in the barracks. Wake up! God wants to attack the fear, evil and tyranny that controls America.
I reject any teaching that puts the church on the defensive at the very moment she should be most visible and engaged in a great Gospel offensive.
It is time to seek a life that blasts through limits—a life that does exactly what everybody says can’t be done.
The Bible teems with examples of lives that made a difference when all seemed hopeless.
-When the last spark of hope died for the slaves in Egypt–Moses saw the burning bush.
-When the world was strangling in global famine–Joseph had already stored up mountains of grain.
-When love and morality were at their lowest ebb–we find the love story of Ruth and Boaz.
-At the moment of total despair–Esther brought deliverance.
-When the Church in Acts was being destroyed–a laser knocks Saul of Tarsus down on the road to Damascus.
Start your rebellion against gloom and doom by taking these steps:
Here is how you start their brand of an amazing life
1. Make God your dwelling place.Psalm 91: 1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” 3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. 9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.”
The most powerful phrase is “because you made God…your dwelling place.” The unbreakable bond created by the decision to dwell in God reduces stress, neutralizes terrifying images and sets you free to do impossible things.
Enter the strong tower—you will get big plans! Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” This place of supernatural sense of safety is where great plans are created. From the repose of this stronghold you plan without panic, you move forward without distraction, and you know you will finish strong.
2. Discern the life you are to live: Satan has practiced telling lies for thousands of years. We know from scripture that in the last days Satan will sense his doom and break out in a frenzy of deception.
Everywhere you look you see believers who have been fooled into limited destiny—who have been distracted and who have fallen into traps. False prophets are everywhere. Paralyzing images from fear mongers have taken many believers out of commission.
Jesus solemnly warned his followers saying: “take heed that no one deceives you.” You can be fooled off the front line. You can be fooled out of your destiny.
Isaiah 8:12 “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’ concerning all that this people call a conspiracy, Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled. 13 The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow; Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread. 14 He will be as a sanctuary.” You will not chase a rumor. You will see through tricks and traps. You will not stop vital activities. You will keep moving forward.
3. See that your real reason for being here is to destroy the works of the Devil. This final point is so urgent that I want to take extra care to make my point. Everything about the Christian Faith is rooted in unselfish service. When that focus is lost, the church is overrun by deception, division, and weakness.
The greatest need in the American church is a military grade mindset. You are a soldier bent on victory. You are not a patient bent on recovery. The soldier is not seeking comfort and ease. They relish combat and triumph on the battlefield.
The sooner you realize that you are here to liberate others, the sooner you will stop being afraid and confused. You will stop seeking to hide—you will embrace the excitement, and yes, the danger of a supernatural life. Declare war on the gloom and doom.
