4 Things the Church must do now that we are illegal

By Mario Murillo

Yes,  we are now illegal.  Bobby Jindal is right.  He said, “’The Supreme Court decision today conveniently and not surprisingly follows public opinion polls, and tramples on states’ rights that were once protected by the 10th Amendment of the Constitution. Marriage between a man and a woman was established by God, and no earthly court can alter that. This decision will pave the way for an all-out assault against the religious freedom rights of Christians who disagree with this decision.’ “

So what do we do now that the Supreme Court overruled our freedom of speech and freedom of worship?  These verses give us the answer:

“But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren. 3 Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.” – Acts 14:2-3

This model says, “stand your ground, push back on the poisoning of minds and let God confirm His message through us with miracles.  To get to this level, we must take these 4 steps.

raw bravery

1.Do nothing without prayer: When leaders from the underground church in China toured America they said, “It is amazing what you have been able to do without the Holy Spirit.”

Let us begin by repenting of our greatest mistake.  Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to run the Church, grow the Church.  He was sent to make us effective and relevant to the culture.

We are guilty of taking away His authority and running the church by our own wits.  We have failed miserably.  Sadly, even failure has not stopped men from controlling the things of God.

In every generation hell belches out a new weapon of mass destruction.  Heaven is neither passive nor taken by surprise.  God creates a weapon of choice by the anointing.  Then He seeks that one who will take up that weapon in the Name of Jesus and thrust it into the heart of darkness.

The American death march that culminated in legalized gay marriage did not surprise the Holy Spirit.  He already knew and is driving us to prayer for an effective counter-attack.   He will create a new breed for this new need.

It is all summed up in the words of Samuel to Saul: 1 Samuel 10:6-7, “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you.”

Waiting on God for power is the highest duty of a preacher.  Prayer must saturate us before we go forth. Those who believe that God must instantly honor our prayers are deluded by modern church entitlement.   We must seek, utterly convinced that power is coming, but at the same time brutally committed to wait as long as it takes.

However, as you will now see, we dare abuse prayer or wait to act when God speaks.

prayer blog art

2. After you pray and hear from God, obey!   Numbers 22: 18-19, Says, “Then Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, ‘Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God, to do less or more. 19 Now therefore, please, you also stay here tonight, that I may know what more the Lord will say to me.’”

Balaam acted noble but greed was in his heart.  He totally contradicts himself.  First he says, “Keep your money, God said No.”  Then he asks the money people to spend the night to see if God changes His mind.

The classic reaction to my blogs on America’s disaster is, “All we need to do is pray.”  Nobody believes in the power of prayer more than I do.  However, there is a widespread abuse of prayer.  Prayer is being used as an excuse for delay, remain silent, and escape.

The key to the Lord’s Prayer is, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  Prayer is going to give you direction.  If you pray until you get the direction you like you have the spirit of Balaam.

This abuse of prayer even hit Moses.  He knew what he was supposed to lead the people through the Red Sea.  God got angry!  Exodus 14:15 says, “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving!’”

Disobedience is a prime reason we have lost this generation.   Many were told what to do about the nation and simply ignored it.  Intercession has even become a substitute for soul-winning.

God has been offering wisdom, direction, and power during the entire Obama regime.  We are at the point of destruction because few leaders have listened and obeyed.

If God sees that you want no part of the warfare, that you refuse to touch the unlovely, and you simply do not want to deal with your local human tragedy, then He will skip over you to find the burning one.

God anoints people to speak truth to power.  How can someone think they are a prophet if they refuse to rebuke the King?

Dear Pastor, do you know where you stand on abortion, same-sex marriage and this frenzy to erase Christianity in America…or, are you still praying about it?

SignJudgeNot

3. Ignore the accusations of hate: When Christians address gay marriage they often begin with a disclaimer: “I am not trying to be hateful.” Quit wasting time with misnomers. There is no widespread hatred of gays in the church.  The hate is not coming from us, it is coming at us!  The slander, smearing, obscene language, and death threats are spewing out of radical feminists, and gay activists, not Christians.

Simply speak the truth in love.  Do not apologize or condemn.  Offending people is unavoidable.   Save your energy, tell it straight and leave the results in God’s hands.

4. We must make way for signs and wonders. They are the only way we will get our message across.

The miracles of Jesus not only continue today, they must accelerate.  The phrase, “speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands,”  speaks loud and clear to our time.

There are churches that oppose the supernatural and there are those that abuse the supernatural.  My opinion on miracles is sandwiched between two extremes.   My reverence for the gifts of the Spirit compels me to seek balance.

Those who have banned miracles and those who binge on emotionalism must both repent.  We need meetings where people see the power of God confirming our message.

History teaches us something important: When the Word of God is summarily rejected and immorality has spiked, the Holy Spirit has more than met the challenge with increased power to preach and towering miracles to confirm the message.

Finally, all four of these actions are summed up in the reality that we are at war.  We did not pick this fight but, by God, we are going to finish it.

When the Kingdom of God Overtakes Church

We are on the cusp of a long overdue revolution both inside and outside the church.  An explosive truth is right under your nose; a truth that could fundamentally turn the course of the United States back to God.   I have no doubt that this is the very answer that we are desperately seeking.

When the Kingdom of God Overtakes Church.

By Mario Murillo

Experts say that America has lost her way because the church has lost its way.    How can they blame the church for America’s problems?   Many say it is because they helped reelect Barrack Obama.   They say reelection because, as the saying goes “fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.”

Do you, yes you Pastor, need to cry “shame on me for putting race over righteousness” since Obama told you what he was going to do to marriage before you voted?   Will history say that your vote helped open the floodgates for the greatest decline of morals, money, prestige and safety in American history?   You were supposed to protect the sheep.  Did you instead help the wolf by not only voting for him but influencing 6 million believers to violate their conscience?

firsrt amendment copy

This is an extreme example of what happens when “church” overtakes the Kingdom of God.   You wake up committed an agenda that violates your convictions.  This disaster is not limited to politics.  We see it now on every level.  Pastors cannot call sin, sin.  They dare not challenge their people to prayer.  They are imprisoned in a system where they cannot hear from God at all because they are wholly tuned to the whims of fickle members and prevailing social trends.

By now you’ve guessed that when I say “church” I do not mean the Church of Jesus Christ.  I am talking about the machine that man built not God.  Some are built by traditions, others are built by control freaks, and still others are the spawn of charts, graphs and market research.   They have one thing in common…they are working for God but not with Him.

What is even worse is when “church” becomes “church incorporated.”  Now the Pastor must tenaciously protect a far flung empire…even protecting it from God!  They are forced to keep Christians in a childish condition.  You cannot build an army against evil in a Christian country club.

So, even when “church” is wildly successful, Satan laughs because he understands that it is no threat to his destructive plan.

Things look pretty grim don’t they?   No in fact the opposite is the case.  We are on the cusp of a long overdue revolution both inside and outside the church.  An explosive truth is right under your nose; a truth that could fundamentally turn the course of the United States back to God.   I have no doubt that this is the very answer that we are desperately seeking.

So if you are ready…I mean ready to stop chasing fantasies about church growth, soul winning, revival, the supernatural and  the anointing, then you can unlock a truth.  Not just any truth but a truth that terrifies Satan more than any other.  It is about that moment when the WHEN THE KINGDOM OF GOD OVERTAKES CHURCH. lights over america

  1. That moment that you hear the knock. I noticed something consistent in the churches that are not “churches” but power centers that are driving the forces of darkness back in their communities: They all describe the day that their church was “overtaken.”

This came after they heard the knock and opened the door.   Revelations 3:15-20 clearly describes the American church.  Revelation 3: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.   Imagine that!  Jesus is knocking at the door and trying to get back in His own church.

If you are weary from trying to hold something together that you put together it is time to hear His knock and His voice and open the door and let the Kingdom of God overtake you.

  1. The Kingdom of God has its own agenda. Joshua 3: 13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” 14 So He said, “No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”  And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, “What does my Lord say to His servant?”

Joshua was intensely involved in leading until he was overtaken by the agenda of heaven.

Long before you got to your city, God was working there.  Long after you are gone God will still be working there.   He loves the city more than you do.  He has all the wisdom to reach it.  You do not.

Whenever I hear a leader say “we are studying the issue” I know they are operating from churchiness and not the Kingdom.   Our plans need to be consumed.  Kingdom plans must be embraced.

big boy pants

The greatest lie is the one that says we cannot survive unless we become “relevant.”    The Kingdom of God is beyond relevant it is timeless.   No genius in a thousand years would have come up with the plan God had for taking Jericho.  Likewise the agenda of the Kingdom of God infinitely surpasses all that we rely upon.

Why I am so filled with hope?  Because I know that Jesus does not lie.  He promised that if you would hear the knock and open the door He Himself would enter and take over all aspects of church life.

  1. Sailing before the wind. Something else stuck out about those power centers that exchanged “church” for the Kingdom of God. They suddenly had unlimited resources for every project.  How does that work?!

Acts 16: 6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them. 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.

11 Therefore, sailing from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and the next day came to Neapolis.

This is the best example of an overtaking.   They tried and tried and finally stopped trying.   A vision appears.   And they sail from Samothrace to Neapolis in one Day?  This is a two day trip!   A sea wind filled their sails and cut their time in half.

Things are bad…no way around it.  However it is the sober realization of how bad that can fuel a divine desperation.   Some who read this need to let go of things that are your natural security.  Others need to return to a first love.    I do not know who has a more difficult challenge the pastor of a small church or the leader of a mega church.  One is struggling to survive and the other is diluted by false success.

July envelope art

When we drop all and open the door for the Kingdom of God to overtake our lives and our plans we immediately connect to unlimited power, wisdom, favor and resources.  We can answer anyone, we can implement plans with wisdom from beyond this world and we can connect to the others who have been overtaken by the Kingdom.    This is how national fires are set and the course of a culture is transformed.

The Silicon Valley of Decision

Silicon Valley around San Jose

The Silicon Valley of Decision

By Mario Murillo

In 1982, God poured out His Spirit on San Jose California.  It made headlines in Major newspapers and network television.  Thousands met Christ is a harvest that went on almost every night for 22 weeks. The total attendance was well over 200,000 people.

It took supernatural strength for me to preach night after night from February until July.  Strangely, the Holy Spirit has never permitted me to return to the Silicon Valley in a revival since then…at least, not until now.

Many of you have heard why I have returned but let me summarize the stunning events of the last two weeks:

Friday night February 28th in Martinez, I asked three people to stand and then words began tumbling forth:   “You came from 60 miles away.”  But the Holy Spirit did not leave it there, telling me to add: “you are from 60 miles south of here.”

Their entire life opened like a book: “Satan has tried so hard…almost succeeded.  You have been drilling into solid rock. The Lord is saying that the drill bit is at the last layer of shale.  You are one inch away from a gusher that is going to affect thousands of people.”

It turned out that these 3 people, Pastor Dennis, Jim and Debbie were from Calvary Temple of Campbell. Not only that, but we found out later that the church is 60.9 miles south of our building! But what was explosive was when we realized that I was already scheduled to speak in this church on March 2nd!

So, on that date we filled the church, the Spirit fell, and many were saved.  The impact of the meetings has forced us to add a second week.  We are returning tomorrow morning at 10:30 AM/ 6PM and then Monday and Tuesday at 7 PM.

People are coming from all over Northern California to witness the power of God.  I know for a fact that families are bringing loved ones who are near death.  What will happen in these meetings?  Only God knows what is about to happen.           Click here to hear audio of actual prophecy     http://mariomurillo.org/campbell-word/

Obituary for the American Church

by Mike Breen

From time to time I will have the people I’m discipling write out their own pastoral obituary. I ask them to write out how our enemy would take them out, rendering them unable to serve their family and communities. As you can imagine, the answers vary, but always serves as a really helpful exercise as they are forced to confront issues of character, etc.

You see, taking the same exercise I’ve used with pastors, for the past year I’ve been thinking how the enemy would/might be trying to take down the American church. Now what I’ve noticed is that the original temptations Jesus faced (which can best be boiled down to Appetite, Affirmation and Ambition) are somehow warped and insinuated into the culture.

As each culture is distinct and different, a smart enemy would come at each culture in subtle ways, tempting them in ways they don’t see or expect, and with things that would look different from culture to culture.

For instance, the issues the European church deal with are actually quite different than the ones the American church is dealing with – even though often times they are put under the same broad umbrella of “Western Church.” Sure, there are some similarities, but the attack is different. More nuanced.

But those original temptations of Appetite, Affirmation and Ambition are slowly insinuating themselves into everything we call CHURCH. We just often don’t recognize it or see it.

And so this is how, if our enemy gets his way, the American church could be taken out:

A culture of CELEBRITY (affirmation)

A culture of CONSUMERISM (appetite)

A culture of COMPETITION (ambition)

The original temptations of Appetite, Affirmation and Ambition are creeping into everything we call CHURCH.

CELEBRITY

The idea of celebrity is deeply woven into American culture and values. All you have to do is look at the ridiculous nature of Reality TV and you see how Americans are constantly craving celebrity (either to be a celebrity or to find the next celebrity and stalk their every move).

Now there is nothing dark or sinister about “celebrity” in and of itself. You can’t find an argument that says Jesus wasn’t a huge celebrity in his day.

(continued…)

However, there is a difference between being famous and being significant. If Jesus was famous, it’s because he was doing something significant. The problem with many pastors is they make decisions, develop personas and define success from the lens of what will make them a celebrity/famous (even if they don’t know it or see that they are doing this).

So in American church culture, it’s pretty easy to become a celebrity: Grow a HUGE church. Now all in all, it’s not terribly difficult to grow to be a giant church if you have the right tools at your disposal – but that doesn’t mean the ends justify the means of getting there.

For instance, though Jesus was a celebrity in his day, he was willing to say things that ran people off in droves. In fact, the book of Mark chronicles the way (from about the mid-point of the book on) how people left Jesus to where, at the end, virtually no one was left. NO ONE wants to be associated with him for fear of the consequences.

That’s a Charlie Sheen-esque flameout (obviously without the character issues!). That’s not something you see too often in American churches.

I suspect it’s because riven deeply into the American psyche is the desire to be a celebrity. And American pastors are very susceptible to this. Many subtle things happen in people who desire to this kind of celebrity status:

* They can disengage community and isolate themselves, setting themselves up for moral failure.

* They can make decisions that are numbers driven and not always Kingdom driven.

* They can skew to a shallow understanding of the Gospel as opposed to a holistic one that leads people to discipleship.

* They can put the good of their church (their personal Kingdom) over the good of God’s Kingdom.

Question: In what ways are your decisions made by a subtle undercurrent of ambition and a hope for celebrity?

CONSUMERISM

We live in a culture that revolves around consuming. Every TV commercial, every store, every credit card company, every bank, every TV show or movie, every piece of clothing, car or product, every website, every restaurant every everything is tailored to fit your desires, needs or personal preference.

We are easily infuriated when things don’t happen exactly as we want them. We exist in a place that implicitly says this: “We are here to serve you and meet your every whim and desire. Let us take care of you.” What’s more, it’s never enough.

We live in a culture that revolves around consuming.(continued…)

Eventually the house or the car get older and we want new ones. The clothes aren’t as fashionable and we want something more in style. That restaurant is getting boring, we must find another. Our favorite TV show is wearing thin, so the search begins for the next favorite. And on and on and on.

This is how we are wired to think in the United States. And it is all backed up by this rationale: You’re worth it. You deserve to have what you want, how you want it, when you want it. And for the most part, the church plays the exact same game.

We do as best we can to provide as comfortable an experience as humanly possible, using every means at our disposal to attract them in (and then keep them in). So we tailor what we do around their wants and desires. That’s Marketing 101, right? The problem is at the end of the day, the only thing that Jesus is counting is disciples.

That’s it.

He doesn’t seem to care too much about converts, attendance, budgets or buildings. It’s about disciples. And, by nature, disciples are producers, not consumers.

Yet most of our churches are built around feeding consumers. I’d argue 90% of the church’s time, energy and resources are linked to this. But the issue is this: The means you use to attract people to you are usually the means you must use to keep them. In other words, if you use consumerism to attract them to your church, it often means you must continue using it to keep them or else they will find another church who will meet their “needs.” And yet, that consumer mentality is antithetical to the Gospel and to the call of Discipleship.

Disciples aren’t consumers, they are producers. Jesus cared about disciples more than anything else.

The means you use to attract people to you are usually the means you must use to keep them.

Question: In what ways is your church community using consumerism as the means to draw people to a Gospel that is, in and of itself, anti-consumerism?

COMPETITION

You will never find a more hyper-competitive culture than you do in the United States. As a foreigner living in this land, I can attest to that with the utmost respect. Americans love to win, they love the struggle of the journey and love holding up the gold medal of victory. Now don’t hear me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being competitive, it’s just how competition has become warped and twisted within our culture. And it’s that, at least in the church, we are competitive about the wrong things.

Much of the American church finds itself competing with the church down the road. “Are we bigger than them? Do we have more influence than them? Do we have the best/biggest youth group in town? Do people like to get married in our church building? Do people like our church better than theirs? ”

The fact of the matter is that there is a battle, we do have an enemy and we should be competitive – but against our enemy! What we haven’t seen is how crafty he is. This seems to be the alliance he has struck with the American church: “I’ll let a good chunk of your churches grow, just not at the expense of my territory.”

Disciples aren’t consumers, they are producers. Jesus cared about disciples more than anything else.FREE eBook, Simple Ways To Be Missional, when you sign up for our FREE email updates. Enter your email address below to download your free eBook:

And so what happens? 96% of church growth is due to transfer growth and not churches striking into the heart of our enemy’s territory. We’ll consider it a win because we have the new service or program that is growing – but that growth is mainly from people coming from other churches. That’s not a win! That’s a staggering loss.

Furthermore, for many pastors, we don’t think we’ve won until we’ve won AND someone else has lost. Seriously?! For sure, we have an enemy and we should be competitive, but we should be competing against our enemy, knowing that the final battle has already been won, and not competing against our own team members.

(continued…)

So gifted and skilled is our enemy, so conniving is he, that he has convinced us that beating the people on our own team is victory while he stands back and laughs, rarely having to ever engage in conflict, protecting his territory. He is beating us with a slight of hand, with a clever distraction, turning us against ourselves. Question: In what ways are you competing (both in actuality or simply in your mind) against people who are on your own team?

In all honesty, it isn’t that the American church will ever truly die or cease to exist. It will always be there. But it is entirely possible that if these three critical issues aren’t addressed and dealt with, it will be a hallow shell that is spiritually listless.

If we think through Celebrity, Consumerism and Competition, the anti-body against all of these is sacrifice. Learning to lay down what builds us up and giving to others instead. Learning to serve, rather than to be served. Looking for anonymity rather than celebrity. To build a culture of producers rather than a consumers.

To live in a vibrant, sacrificial community fighting a real enemy rather than competing against the same community God has given us to fight WITH rather than AGAINST. It’s about sacrificing what we want for the glory of God and the advancement of his Kingdom, regardless of our advancement or desires.

Clearly this is what Paul was getting after in Philippians 2:6-11 when describing the attitude of Jesus as taking on the attitude of a servant, willing to sacrifice all acclaim and equality with God. It was a willingness to set aside and sacrifice celebrity, consumerism and competition at the altar of the incarnation.

Fifty years ago, as these three subtle threads were being woven into the American church, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., serving as a prophetic voice, said this:

If today’s church does not recapture the sacrificial spirit of the early church, it will lose its authenticity, forfeit the loyalty of millions, and be dismissed as an irrelevant social club with no meaning for the twentieth century.

We are now into the second decade of the 21st century and we find ourselves still, for the most part, refusing to sacrifice what we want for what God is asking of us and his Church. Will we have the courage to sacrifice as Christ sacrificed? Will we do the things that cost us so that his Kingdom may advance?

Experts are wrong. A nationial youth revival is about to hit. Three things we gotta do right away.

Experts are wrong.  A national youth revival is about to hit. Three things we gotta do right away.

By Mario Murillo

There is a fresh openness to the Gospel about to break on America.

It will not come through the usual channels.  The case for this prediction is strong so please take a moment to read this, not just to be encouraged, but to be prepared.

During my entire ministry, I have studied the Word of God.  Even though I believe in prophetic words it has been my habit to absorb as much as I possibly could directly from the Bible.

It is from this body of evidence that I will make give you my considered opinion that the last great revival on earth will be a youth revival.  That is correct; the fuse for global awakening is the young.

The last two verse of the Old Testament is teeming with meaning: Malachi 4:  5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet Before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. 6 And he will turn The hearts of the fathers to the children, And the hearts of the children to their fathers, Lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”

There are three quotes in that verse that have great meaning to you right now.

1. “I will send”:  It will come from God Himself. This means that nothing can prevent its arrival. Times of refreshing from the throne of God make their way to Earth without regard to human planning and often at the most unexpected time and in a most unexpected way.

John 1:6 says, “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.”  John the Baptist baffled experts.  He was a phenomenon that violated every religious opinion of his time.  So is it today that God will give the order and the raging of men will not alter the course of this event.

2. “He will turn the hearts”:   1 Kings 18: 37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again.”

3. Lest:  Even though this is a threat it is the most powerful part of the promise.  It reminds us that it is wrong to assume judgment or as Jonah did, secretly desire judgment. Joel 2:13 tells us, “So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. 14 Who knows if He will turn and relent, And leave a blessing behind Him—A grain offering and a drink offering For the Lord your God?

Now here are my reasons for believing we are at the brink of a youth harvest in America:

1. I believe that God provoked Satan to overplay his hand thereby getting youth sick of excess.  Immoral activist, aging baby boomers are beginning to look disgusting and tedious to youth.  Ambivalence toward Abortion, socialism, Europe and atheism and even feminism is driving them investigate Christ.

2. It is such a bad time that it is a good time. Since revival is sent to avert disaster it means that it will occur just before disaster.  The times that seem to make revival look impossible are very the times in which they appear.

Why do I think that disaster will be averted?  Lost in all of the dizzying changes to marriage, drugs, healthcare, is the fact that the majority of Americans still believe in Christ.

Even though there is widespread lukewarm faith, there is a living taproot.  Radical voices have hijacked the microphone but they do not represent reality.  America is way more spiritually flammable that experts know and the fire of heaven will spread fast.

Three things we gotta do quick!

1.  Men become fathers!  Spiritual fathers will usher in the next revival.  Hitler sensed a vacuum in the youth of Germany devastated by the First World War.  He knew that a father figure could own the heart of the youth.  If you open your heart you will also open your schedule and your home to an orphaned generation.

2. Make your prayer for revival sincere and knowledgeable.   Much of our prayer is bouncing off the walls because it is not coming from a heart that is convinced or aware of what they are asking for. When true prayer appears it is not only effective it is contagious.

3.  We must build barns.  Proverbs 10:5 “He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame.”

John 4:35 “Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”

Luke 10:2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

No longer can church be a monument to a bygone era or a marketing center for mass superficiality.  Our buildings must be retooled; they must become youth oriented upper rooms where God turns the wreckage of young lives into trophies of His power and Grace!

These verses serve as a loving warning.  Churches must start now to make room for interruptions. Youth will arrive.  We will be ordered to go out and get them.  Don’t say it is not possible or that youth are not ready.  The stage is set, the fuse is lit I pray you are ready!

The Problem with Prophesying the Destruction of San Francisco.

San Francisco

The Problem with prophesying the destruction of San Francisco.

By Mario Murillo

I woke on the morning of October 4, 2013 and San Francisco was still there.  To the dismay of some, it was even a beautiful day in the city.  Why is this significant?  Well, as many of you may know, “prophets” said that  3rd October, 2013 a 9.5 magnitude quake would destroy San Francisco and in fact, would snap it off the coast line altogether.  It appears that the only thing that may snap off and crumble is the credibility of some in the “prophetic movement.”  While they were busy predicting the destruction we were busy gathering the harvest in Northern California.

1. Predicting an earthquake in San Francisco is like predicting a mustache in Mexico.  It is not prophetic to say San Francisco will have an earthquake.  There are small tremors every day.  It lies in the most active earthquake region of the world!  Give me a break, of course San Francisco is going to have an earthquake.

2. An out of Bible experience: What did happen yesterday is the passing of Chuck Smith a great man of God.  In a way, this blog is because of his life.  Chuck was a man overflowing with love.  Notably, he loved lost souls and he loved the Bible.  He repeatedly responded to issues in the body of Christ by saying, “read the Bible.”

An out of Bible experience is a phrase coined by my friend Pastor Dusty Kemp who leads New Life Church in Houston.  This rash of predictions by “prophets” is a symptom of the departure from, and a replacement for the Bible.  One voice in this movement said, “I have experiences that cannot be explained by the Bible.”  Another accused Scripture based preachers of thinking the Bible was God.  This is the very deception that Paul warned would come: “1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.”

I have always had deep misgivings taking any single gift of the Spirit and naming a movement after it.  I also know some true prophets and almost without exception they refuse to go by the title of prophet.

3. What spirit are you of?  Luke 9: 54 “And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” 55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.”  One of the most chilling things I ever saw was on Christian television was a “prophet” taking credit for predicting hurricane Katrina.   Families who lost loved ones must have been horrified to see such indifference to their loss.

Yet, it is this very spirit that has seeped into some of the prophetic movement.  They are not here to save but to indulge in spiritual entitlement and a self-centered quest for exotic experiences.  It is almost universal that when we go into a city that it is the hyper churches that will not help us win souls.  By hyper I am talking about when they are hyper worship, hyper intercession, hyper-prophetic but utterly unhyper about winning souls or linking hearts with other members of the body of Christ.

In conclusion: While these “prophets” were busy condemning Northern California we were seeing an unprecedented harvest of souls in Salinas.  Come on people!  If God is reaching out in mercy let’s not predict, wish or entertain destruction but lovingly warn society.

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Orange County pastor Chuck Smith, the founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, died Thursday after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 86.

KNX 1070′s Vytas Safronikas reports Smith died in his sleep at 3 a.m. Thursday morning, according to Pastor Steve Mathum at the nondenominational Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa.

  • Smith, who served as senior pastor at Calvary Chapel for more than four decades, was considered one of the most influential pastors in much of evangelical Christianity, and was known for his unorthodox outreach to young people that helped fuel the “Jesus movement” of the 1970s.

Since starting what began as a 25-person Costa Mesa congregation in 1965, Smith is credited with a movement that ultimately planted over 1,600 churches worldwide as part of the Calvary Chapel fellowship.

Smith announced that he was battling lung cancer in January 2012, but the prognosis at that time was unclear.

In addition to his senior pastor duties, Smith also served as co-host of “Pastors’ Perspective”, a daily radio call-in show with Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa pastor Brian Brodersen and Don Stewart.

Raul Reis, who pastors Calvary Chapel Golden Springs in Diamond Bar, said he came to Christ through Smith.

“As we learned the word of God, Chuck became my pastor,” Reis said. “It was just a real blessing to see that he really loved the people…it doesn’t matter who it was, he continued to love people, so he will be greatly missed.”

Cheryl Brodersen, Smith’s daughter and wife of Brian Brodersen, said on Twitter, “My dad is now everything he wanted to be and where he always wanted to be!”

Chuck Smith was one of the greatest forces for reach young people for Christ in American history.  His unswerving commitment to preaching the Bible was an invaluable force in holding back error at a time when the threat of false doctrine was a systemic threat to the Body of Christ.  His legacy of 1,600 Calvary Chapels will guarantee that his influence will be felt until Jesus comes.
