AMERICA ON FIRE

Officer Derek Chauvin put his knee on George Floyd’s neck, and kept it there for seven minutes. Mr. Floyd died begging for his life. This time there is no doubt. There is no back story. There is no excuse. It was murder, pure and simple. This is the flagrant abuse of power we fear most. The video will sear the conscience of America as long as there is an America.

Despair makes you set fire to your own neighborhood. Rage answers lawlessness with more lawlessness. Rioters have destroyed black-owned businesses—businesses the owners spent a life-time building.

The looters don’t want justice, they want free stuff—and many of them are white. Violent protesters aren’t honoring George Floyd’s memory. They are adding pain and grief—especially to the family George Floyd left behind.

Why is all of this happening to America? David Wilkerson didn’t just see New York City shutdown in one hour in his vision that many say predicted the virus. He also saw 1,000 fires burning in New York at one time. Are these riots all across America that next thing he saw?

I hated to feel it. I hated knowing I was right. I was haunted by a conviction that the pandemic and the collapse of our economy was not the end of our misery in 2020.  Too many of the videos that I saw which were produced by Christians, confirmed my deepest dread. Most ministries did not see any need to change their message—or discard the carnal and manmade doctrines and traditions. Repentance was hard to find, and the little there was, was mostly shallow rhetoric.

Christian music should have turned away from materialism and entertainment during the pandemic. Instead, the lead singer of a well-known worship band publicly announced he no longer believes in Jesus.

They were singing the same songs, speaking the same company-line, with little remorse, and even less soul searching. What should have been a catalyst to crying out to God for cleansing and mercy, became nothing more than a bothersome interruption. We held on to our sin, and rather than allowing God to remove it, many ministers just decided to ride it out.

We have refused correction. Jeremiah 5:3, “O Lord, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return.”

The last thing the church should ever tell God is that the adversity He sent was not enough to change her. God did not send the virus, but He is God, and He can use anything to bring about His own plans. But I don’t believe it achieved His desired end—which was to wake up His church.

God warned Israel about rejecting His early dealings—warning that harsher measures could follow.

The Lord also spoke to me again, saying: Inasmuch as these people refused the waters of Shiloh that flow softly…now therefore, behold, the Lord brings up over them the waters of the River, strong and mighty—the king of Assyria and all his glory; he will go up over all his channels and go over all his banks (Isaiah 4:5-7).

If Christian apathy has survived the pandemic, imagine what is happening out in the world. If the church has not been moved to repentance, then what is happening to the culture? America has voted devils into State Houses, and they have shut down the Church. America is shaking her fist at God in wickedness and defiance. Liars control virtually every bastion of our media and information.

Some will read this blog and reject my message. I say to them: Listen to yourself! Listen to what you are defending. Listen to why this makes you angry. Shouldn’t you even consider that America is on track for as much trouble as it takes for God to save it?

Yet in all of this, there is good news. A core of godly praying people are standing between heaven and earth in intercession and repentance. There are preachers who are openly rejecting the criminal limitations that are being placed on their church. There are heroes rising up, and their numbers are growing every day.

Tomorrow, the Spirit will fall in a modern Day of Pentecost, in every house that defies the oppression of evildoers. Satan timed this in an attempt to discourage the core of believers and to dissuade the faithful from pressing into revival.

It is a time of both great darkness and great light. It is a time when the Army of God will find their full authority and might—even as evil plunges the world into blackness. It is time for us to arise, and shine!

Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising (Isaiah 60:1-3).

Vessels of Fire and Glory

Vessels of Fire and Glory is Mario’s newest book. It reached number one on Amazon among all Spirit-filled books. John Kilpatrick who led the Pensacola Revival said this after he read Vessels of Fire and Glory: “As I read the manuscript for Mario Murillo’s new book, Vessels of Fire and Glory, I said to myself, “Finally!” Mario has measured the church and the nation in this season and did not hold anything back. His honesty is like the sun rising inside a dark cave. This release is a paradox—it is sobering and refreshing; it is symptoms and the cure. I believe this revivalist has penned a treatise that should be in the hands of all who lead the work of God.”

 Edgewise

Here is a book about the end times with a totally different approach. It does not focus on how the world will end but on how to live as the curtain comes down on humanity. Powerful, practical, and encouraging.

Critical Mass

Critical Mass is the best-selling book Mario Murillo has ever written. It has been acclaimed as a classic on how to pray for, surrender to, and sustain revival. It is required reading in many colleges and training centers.

ABUSING THE WARNINGS OF DAVID WILKERSON

David Wilkerson was a true prophet. The following prophecy has been attributed to him: “I see a plague coming on the world, and the bars, churches and government will be shut down. The plague will hit New York City and shake it like it has never been shaken. The plague is going to force prayerless believers into radical prayer and into their Bibles, and repentance will be the cry from the man of God in the pulpit. And out of it will come a third Great Awakening that will sweep America and the world.”

The thing is, no one close to David Wilkerson from his family, staff or from the congregation of his church ever heard him say this quote. It does not exist in any of his recorded messages or writings, so I cannot confirm nor deny the validity of this quote.

But it doesn’t really matter when you consider what can be confirmed. David Wilkerson spent years warning America that a storm was coming. Here is what we know he said about New York City, “In one hour everything is going to change.”

Then he said, “I believe that when the coming storm hits with full fury, and the nation is reeling with panic and fear, people will flee all false gospels and feel-good churches. Christians will forget about gospel entertainment and Christian TV, and they’ll start demanding hard truth. They’ll flock to hear godly pastors, demanding the true word of God. Their cry will be, “Who will preach to us a prophetic, life-changing word?”

What I can also confirm is a destructive hypocrisy in the Body of Christ toward David Wilkerson.  Jesus said, “Yes, woe to you, Pharisees, and you religious leaders—hypocrites! For you build monuments to the prophets killed by your fathers and lay flowers on the graves of the godly men they destroyed, and say, ‘We certainly would never have acted as our fathers did.’ “In saying that, you are accusing yourselves of being the sons of those who killed the prophets, and you are following in their steps, filling up the full measure of their evil” (Matthew 23:29-32).

Many—especially preachers—condemned David Wilkerson while he was alive, but now those same people are laying verbal flowers at the shrine of his memory, because of a single tantalizing quote. That confirms that even in the midst of a pandemic, there is a more of a tendency toward entertainment, than toward conviction.

Long after many of the prophets died, their predictions came true. Many of the sons of those who killed these vessels of God stood in awe of the accuracy of the prophecies, but did not repent of the evil the prophecies warned about. That is what is happening right now

In reference to the words of David Wilkerson, we are straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. We are missing the point entirely. All things taken together, if we truly do revere David’s gift, we have to make several confessions.

We must confess that the virus we are fighting is the result of national sin, because David Wilkerson said the storm was a judgment.  If you do not accept David’s rebuke and warning, then you are laying flowers at a tomb, while rejecting the prophet.

David Wilkerson told us why America’s idols would be toppled: “What is the reason for this judgment? It will come as God’s wrath upon a nation that has shed rivers of innocent blood!” David Wilkerson pointed to abortion and to children who were being sold into sexual slavery as the reason America would suffer a storm.

But he also warned the church about carnality and said it was a major factor in the judgment of God on America. As far back as 1998, David Wilkerson solemnly warned the compromised American church and instructed those with a heart for God to get out of their dead churches. He also instructed them to seek God’s comfort and protection from what was about to come upon America. He said:

“The majority of churchgoers today soundly reject all prophetic warnings of a coming storm. Indeed, the American church today is the most blatant “feel good” church in all of history. But, like Israel, we’re only experiencing the calm before the storm!

“Likewise today, Christians by the multiple thousands are casting off the yoke of Christ, tossing aside all limits and restrictions. This attitude is prevalent in many of the books and magazines you find in Christian bookstores. It’s almost as if our leaders are saying, “Relax! God isn’t hard. He’s our Daddy, we’re all his kids, and we’re meant to have a good time. Don’t let anyone disturb your fun!””

Many are still having fun. Many think this pandemic will soon be behind us and the future will return undisturbed. It is disastrous to have fun cherry-picking the prophecies that are tasty morsels, but rejecting the repentance that they demand. Many are doing that right now—even in the face of total confirmation of why God did this—and what we need to do.

But the most chilling question we must ask is what will happen if we do not repent. Will we force the hand of God to act yet again to try and save us?

Is there hope? There is great hope! David Wilkerson not only predicted this storm, he gave amazing counsel for enduring it: “Beloved, if we’re going to face the coming storm, then we need to be prepared so that nothing disturbs our spirit. And the only way to do that is to spend time in the Father’s presence, beholding His face. We have to be shut in with Him, on our knees, until we’re thoroughly persuaded He’s at our right hand!”

“God is clearly telling us, “Don’t be moved or agitated by anything you see. Keep your eyes focused on Me, and you will retain your joy!”

“You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence” (Acts 2:28).

We always have to keep in mind that God’s only purpose in lovingly calling us back to Himself is to protect us in such times of storm!

And finally, these soul searching questions: Are you acting on the warnings of David Wilkerson? Are you done with carnal churches? Are you repenting of the sins that God is grieved by? And finally, preacher—are you telling America she must repent, or will you keep flattering those who are calling down destruction upon us?

WHY THE RIGHTEOUS ARE HANDLING THIS SO MUCH BETTER THAN OTHERS

Why are the righteous handling this calamity so much better than others? And make no mistake, they are handling this better, and this is a calamity. Don’t compare this to the flu. No matter what numbers you cite, New York City has never had to set up hospital tents that can hold 2,000 beds. Not even during a seasonal flu—nor has their morgue been this overcrowded…

Who are the righteous? What are they like today? For me, the answer was clear and simple.

They are:

  • Gentle and loving saints who are sometimes scolded by ushers for praying in the spirit and raising holy hands. Their church has changed, but they never got the memo. All they want is just to know Jesus. They love the benefits of faith, but they want Jesus more than those benefits.
  • Those who can’t stand the glitzy, impersonal, dimly lit concert atmosphere that has replaced worship and the presence of God.
  • Those who feel queasy in meetings where so called apostles, prophets, and seers have turned the gifts of the Spirit into a self-exalting circus atmosphere.
  • Persecuted for taking biblical stands against same sex marriage, abortion, and socialism.
  • Pastors with broken hearts. Men and women who, no matter what, stuck to preaching the Word of God but could not compete with the marketing blitz of ‘attraction churches.’ They grieved not because their church became smaller, but because people they loved have left, only to become weaker.
  • The few who go out every week, hand out tracts, and pray for people on the streets.
  • People who suddenly felt desperate for more of God. They replaced a chunk of their television/social media time for regular prayer, and found an oasis in the heart of their home.
  • Fanatics who daily confess the word of God over their bodies and their families.
  • Believers who are yearning for the Gospel to envelope the earth as it is preached with power, accompanied by miracles, and spreads the message of God’s love.
  • Restless and frustrated. They feel trapped between worlds as they await their new assignment.

These special people enjoy a special end-time peace and protection.  David Wilkerson said, “God promised the prophet Zechariah that in the last days, He would be a protective wall of fire around His people: “For I, says the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire roundabout…”” (Zechariah 2:5).

Likewise, Isaiah testifies: “For thou has been a…shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall” (Isaiah 25:4).”

This pandemic has exposed the dramatic difference between the righteous and the carnal believer. The righteous heeded the warnings, so they were prepared. Righteousness prepares you for crisis even when you don’t know it. It brings with it a special ability to sense danger. Proverbs 22:3, “A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished.”

Modern pastors, wanting a big church lied to the people by promising nothing would interrupt their blessing. These preachers set their congregations up for panic. Jeremiah 5:12 says, “They have lied about the Lord, and said, “It is not He. Neither will evil come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine.”

This theology of endless sunshine is nothing new. It has been around for centuries, and is known as ‘triumphalism’ – the teaching that becoming a Christian will prevent anything bad from ever happening.  It violates one of Jesus’ most basic warnings, found in Matthew 7:26-27, “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

Jesus told us to follow His teachings. Pastors have actually discouraged people from doing the work of Christ. They have focused on feeling good, rather than obedience. David Wilkerson said, “The majority of churchgoers today soundly reject all prophetic warnings of a coming storm. Indeed, the American church today is the most blatant ‘feel good’ church in all of history.”

Ask yourself. Why would anyone build on sand? There is only one explanation: they don’t believe that storms are coming. These believers have experienced a great fall from their smug complacency when they discovered that their pastors betrayed them. The righteous, on the other hand, knew they were being told a lie and instead, they built on the solid Rock. They pressed into God, and were prepared when the floods came.

The righteous stored up the right things for storms without even knowing it. Jesus said to pray in secret. That lays a strong foundation. The foundation is the part of the house you can’t see. Righteousness is everything you build when no one is looking, when it doesn’t seem necessary, and when no one else is doing it.

Isaiah 3:10-11, “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for the reward of his hands shall be given him.”

The coronavirus has revealed everyone’s foundation. Those who are giddy, foolish and careless about their movements and actions are showing us their foundation. Those who are hiding themselves until this passes are demonstrating wisdom.

Some carnal Christians are actually getting even more carnal during this crisis. It reminds me of this verse: 2 Chronicles 28:22, “Now in the time of his distress King Ahaz became increasingly unfaithful to the Lord.” It is one thing to embrace a church-taught counterfeit when the weather is great, but to harden your heart in a storm like this is a terrifying mistake.

If you were to ask me exactly what God is saying to do right now, it is summed up in these words:

“Come, My people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past.” Isaiah 26:20

The righteous have known that, all along, which is why they are so strong and serene in the midst of this storm.

ENTITLEMENT AND ESCAPISM

Something is coming and the church is not ready. In recent days God has been trying to warn the American church about what is coming, but, what have we done with these warnings?

I heard one preacher exclaim, “Teaching that anything bad is coming, is defeatism.” He refused to give his children a defeatist world view. What he thinks is love is the ultimate abuse. His children will not be ready.

It’s not as if God hasn’t warned the American church that perilous times are coming. One choice instrument was David Wilkerson. Many listened to his predictions, but many others wrote him off as an angry prophet.

I dare you to reread his words, go back and watch his videos, they are still on YouTube. David will come across completely different to you now. Now that libraries are bringing in drag queens to read to children. Now that abortion is no longer just a ‘right,’ but a cause for celebration. Now that our halls of power are sewers of falsehood, betrayal, ambition, greed, and lust, and now that the very fabric of civilized society is unraveling.

I dare you to call him legalistic, now that you can see that exactly what he predicted is happening.  Now that you see churches have abandoned the Bible.  Now that every day you hear of one more minister condoning materialism and promoting a ‘cheap grace’ that covers lust. Disdaining holiness and denying the existence of Hell. Just as he predicted, there is an epidemic of preachers who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, and pornography.

Our young daughters have unwelcome transgender visitors in the girl’s restroom at school.  We are a nation of drug addicts. Tens of thousands die every year from opioids.

The bane of Modern Christianity can be summed up in just 2 words: Entitlement and Escapism.

Go back with me to a time before all this madness, and see when a sense of entitlement began to infect the church.

No one got saved in the early church because they were promised a lavish life. Each convert knew from the jump they would pay a price for following Jesus. They embraced Christ because something real happened to them. They knew—beyond knowing—that He was the Truth and the Life.  Knowing Him was infinitely worth the cost. All they wanted was Jesus.

It is ironic that we tend to feel sorry for them, when in fact they would pity us! Yes, they were persecuted, but God was real in them. Their clarity unlocked something most of us do not have: inexpressible peace and joy.

Entitlement rolled into church like a Trojan horse. Certain preachers, like all good marketers, considered true discipleship a hard sell, so they replaced it with perks, inducements and flattery. Church became one giant participation trophy. The unspoken boast was, “What have we to do with self-denial? What have we to prepare for?” We as American Christians became too good for suffering. That was for other people, in other nations.

What edge did believers in the first century have over us? A massive one. They could survive anything that they encountered, whereas many today will be taken out the moment something happens that their pastor said God would never let happen.

Since ancient Christians expected to suffer, suffering never threw them for a loop. It never dawned on them that they would escape trials and tribulations. Because of that, they had a singular power that we don’t: the power to glory and thrive in evil times.  Compare that with today’s Christian whose idea of spiritual warfare is claiming a parking space.

This is the person Jesus warned us about in Matthew 13:20, “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.”

The shocking thing will not just be how many entitled believers will stumble, but how little it will take to make them stumble.

Now let’s talk about escapism. The world that vessels like Billy Graham, Oral Roberts, Kenneth Hagin, Steve Hill, and yes, David Wilkerson warned us about is here. The world that your favorite pulpit babysitter promised would never come—came anyway.

We didn’t escape. We have already witnessed this mass tragedy. Life has taken a turn in these United States that many churchgoers never believed could or would happen. There has been a falling away: because so many were ignorant, so many were offended.

Even many of the Christians who remained faithful, express their escapist denial in many ways. Instead of searching the scriptures for truth, they delve even deeper into teachings that now look silly. They want more materialism; they want more entitlement; they plunge into more false teachings and false ways. They go heavier into emotionalism. Their escapism is expressed in a sanctimonious tone, and then they lie about their reasons for believing they will escape all suffering.  They say we must stay out of politics and not choose sides, even as it has become undeniable that we must take a stand. Instead, they bury their head in the sand and are oblivious as evil takes away our freedom and our children’s future.

Escapism is what gives them a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. Denial is why they imitate New Age teachings and make prophecy into a kind of game. But David Wilkerson also saw something else: A fresh and mighty move of the Spirit. He saw Jesus pulling people aside to enter into a close relationship with Him, and to instill in them the power needed to save this nation.  He said, “God is revealing to all praying people that a glorious new work of the Spirit is about to break forth. God is going to shake everything that can be shaken. He will tear down the old political, backslidden, ecclesiastical system. He will disown the formal, super-church structure. He will chase out of His presence all those who are engaging in self-promoting ministries.”

Many will fall, but many will rise to levels of power and usefulness that are astounding. God not only knew the insanity of today was coming—He took steps to prepare a special relationship that would produce special powers in His Children.  You already know who you are.

God is taking you aside to give you nation-saving power and skills. All glory to His Name!

SEPARATE TO ME

A massive number of Christians are experiencing a strange miracle.  And we are discovering that this was predicted—in detail.

The Holy Spirit is separating them. He has selected them for special grace and power to accomplish mighty acts at the edge of history. They will be uniquely equipped to face the sophisticated evil of our time. But it all begins by making peace with the Holy Spirit and restoring His rightful place in our hearts and in the church.

Take a close look at the book of Acts and you will see the disarming down-to-earth way they related to the Holy Spirit. While they revered Him deeply, they had a sense of His nearness and His involvement in their day to day operation. They behaved as if He was close by and they could almost see Him. Most of all, they anticipated His instructions.

Acts 13:2 “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away. 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.”

Millions are now hearing the same call: “SEPARATE TO ME!” The Holy Spirit told David Wilkerson about this coming separation, and how pockets of prophetic people would huddle together across our nation.

He said, “God-hungry people are saying among themselves, “This is not it. There is something more. The bigness and the sensationalism of it all has left us empty and dry. We want more. More than entertainment. More than big, showy buildings. More than a shallow celebrity gospel. We want deeper values. We want to see Jesus. We want spotless robes of righteousness. We want to go back to doing things in total dependence on God.”

Many of these people were chased out of churches that were once fiery, Spirit-filled churches that had taken on a new ‘seeker-friendly’ format. They saw their church now focused on church growth, down-playing the presence of the Holy Spirit, and only designed to attract outsiders. They felt punished for wanting a move of God.

They are fed up with the world system—especially when they see it operating in the church.  They can’t stomach the glitzy entertainment centers anymore. They believe we have no time to play games.  They are frustrated that church is catering to the lukewarm members.

They are done with egocentric preachers with grandiose, expensive and carnal visions that having nothing to do with soul winning or revival.  They accuse these preachers of being distracted—even derailed from their first love.   Disciples are abandoning “attraction” churches, and something revolutionary is happening inside them.  God is starting a fresh movement.

David Wilkerson explained more of what he saw coming: “God is revealing to all praying people that a glorious new work of the Spirit is about to break forth. God is going to shake everything that can be shaken. He will tear down the old political, backslidden, ecclesiastical system. He will disown the formal, super-church structure. He will chase out of His presence all who are engaging in self-promoting ministries.”

The praying people he mentions will force changes.  They are a new breed for a new need. They are frustrated, hungry, and their numbers are growing fast.  They are coalescing around certain truths: fasting, repentance, and holy surrender to Christ.

Smith Wigglesworth saw this separation coming way back in 1927.  He predicted the same group of people that  David Wilkerson described: “All the people which are pressing into and getting ready for this glorious attained place where they shall not be found naked, where they shall be blameless, where they shall be immovable, where they shall be purified by the power of the Word of God, have within them a consciousness of the very presence of God within, changing their very nature and preparing them for a greater thing, and causing them to be ready for translation.”

Both men believed that this gathering unto the Holy Spirit would begin after a great falling away.

Wigglesworth said, “We have to see that these days have to come, before the Lord can come. There has to be a falling away. There are in the world two classes of believers. There are believers which are disobedient, or I ought to say there are children which are saved by the power of God which are disobedient children. And there are children which are just the same saved by the power of God, who all the time are longing to be more obedient.”

I know that the moment predicted by these two men is upon us. Every day, I receive another account of frustrated saints who have been suddenly driven to hours of prayer. Many are fasting. A vast number are about to find each other in a true outbreak of holy fire. Millions of believers across America feel they are being separated to the Holy Spirit for some amazing, yet unknown, reason. David Wilkerson talked about a “work” within us. Smith Wigglesworth talked about “pressing in.” The image is clear…the Holy Spirit is stirring souls across the nation. They are done with the overuse of big screens, skinny jeans, and fog machines.

The weapons of our warfare are not carnal! But mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds!

These frustrated saints are being pulled away from fleshly things, even as a spirit of prayer is overtaking them. They are surrendering to a special work of the Holy Spirit. A fresh work of the Holy Spirit has begun, and the impact will soon be widespread in all the earth!

THEY WILL

THEY WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING

David Wilkerson predicted this emerging force: “God is revealing to all praying people that a glorious new work of the Spirit is about to break forth. God is going to shake everything that can be shaken. He will tear down the old political, backslidden, ecclesiastical system. He will disown the formal, super-church structure. He will chase out of His presence all those who are engaging in self-promoting ministries.”

These praying people he mentions will be the catalyst to these forceful changes.  They are frustrated, hungry, and their numbers are growing fast.  They are coalescing around certain truths: fasting, repentance, and holy surrender to Christ.

This force is the most underrated undercurrent in the church.  Even though it is largely overlooked, it has the firepower to change the church just as much as a youth awakening.  And look out when these two forces collide!

Many of these people were chased out of churches that were once fiery and Spirit-filled, but then went to a new format to attract outsiders.  A growing number of Christians feel their church is promoting programs that don’t impact them. Even programs that bring in large numbers don’t matter to them.  They believe only a move of God can save America now.

They believe we have no time to play games.  They are frustrated that their church is catering to the lukewarm members.  Most of all, they feel that they are being punished for wanting a move of God.

I want to direct my words to those leaders who are guilty of correcting members who yearn for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  You’ve got it totally backwards.  Those who are hungry for a move of God are the best thing that ever happened to your church.

If you have wounded the heart of even a single saint, it was a spectacular mistake.  They, and not the lukewarm, should be setting the tone for your church.

Somewhere, we got the idea—I believe it came from the pit of hell—that exuberant worship, preaching with the anointing and with conviction, fiery prayer meetings, and deliberate soul winning are the “old ways.”

For millions of disenfranchised Christians, these things are not ‘old ways’, but timeless ways. And, their hunger for them is intensifying even as the church grows colder.  Something will have to give!

Change has to come!

Again, David Wilkerson said, “I see it all over the nation today—disillusioned Christians searching for reality. The people in the pew are beginning to fast and pray. They are the ones who now weep between the porch and the altar. And, they are crying out for more depth and more of eternal values from the pulpit. If the minister of their church goes on in some egocentric way, pursuing expensive dreams, they will go out looking for a place where their deepest spiritual needs will be met.”

However, many mega-church pastors didn’t leave it there, they went even further.  They began to punish members who pursued holiness.  They call it a ‘religious spirit.’  These dear saints wonder, “Why would anyone punish a heart for wanting purity?  How can vessels chosen to uplift the righteous and equip the saints, instead, create a system that rewards carnality and shames holiness?”

Let’s be honest.   It’s not as if the modern church is exhausting itself on devotion and sacrifice.  But you’d sure think so by the way some ministers keep telling us to relax, and quit trying so hard, because, ‘Daddy is so pleased with us.’

Even when a congregation is a listless, flabby, biblically illiterate club of moody consumers, preachers will heap on them yet one more message of pampered entitlement.  It’s kind of like handing a diabetic a case of Snickers bars.

It has gotten so bad that Sundays have become a celebration of how much God lets you get away with.

These believers, who know there is more, are equally disappointed in the other extreme. Perhaps in reaction to the deadness, formality, and carnality, some have created churches that are highly emotional and have run completely off the map of scripture.

Satan seduced some into separating the Holy Spirit and the Bible—pitting them against each other.  The Bible not only predicted this deception—it exposed the motive behind it.

2 Timothy 4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers…”  What they can’t endure is the Bible.  They drop the God-card to fulfill their lusts, and then blame the Holy Spirit!

It began in small doses.  One preacher said, “Why do we trust a book? Did they have more of the Spirit than we have?”  Another preacher said, “We’re not supposed to worship a book.”

They will tell you they are trusting in the voice of the Spirit more than The Book.  What they are really hearing is their own voice…or worse.  They don’t deny the inerrancy of scripture: they simply claim direct revelation from God that is equal to the Bible.

If you have all Spirit, you blow up. If you have all Truth, you dry up. You need both!

Studying the Bible has become passé.  Many seek constant prophetic words, and trust these words without comparing them against scripture.

The Holy Spirit becomes “on demand.”  You’ve all seen internet ads where “prophets” will give you a daily word from the Lord.  Some even charge money to give you a prophetic word.

People blame all kinds of things on “leadings of the Holy Spirit.” “The Spirit told me I can leave my husband and children because He wants me to be happy.”  Scantily clad women in church claim, “You may not like the way I dress, but the Holy Spirit does.”  One preacher even compared the Spirit to smoking marijuana, and said, “I am toking the Ghost.”

The book of Daniel seems to divide those who live in the last days into two categories: Those who are corrupted by flattery and those who know their God.  The entire verse reads: “those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.” -Daniel 11:32

The people who know their God are repulsed by both extremes of compromise and emotionalism. They want exuberant worship, even intense worship directed at Christ. They don’t want an emotional binge that feels New Age, and that seems to be trying to reach an altered state.  They want to reach lost souls, but they want no part of an open-ended attraction program that never seems to lead souls into discipleship.  John Wimber called them ‘The Radical Middle.’

As I said before, their numbers are growing every day.  They are not rebellious, they are hungry. They are reaching out to God with great passion.  They are preachers who suddenly realize they have built a monstrosity for God, but they have neither worked with God, nor do they have a relationship with Him.

They are young people who came to church, only to find they didn’t fit any model. After years of increasing emptiness, one day they just collapsed before the Lord and begged for Biblical reality.

Others are finished with egocentric pastors with grandiose, expensive dreams, and carnal visions.  These members of the Radical Middle recognize that their pastors have been distracted—even derailed from their first love.   Those who are interested in becoming true disciples are abandoning ‘attraction- churches’—something revolutionary is happening inside them.

Deep, deep in my soul where the real knowing happens—I know God is doing something new.  God is finished with hirelings.  He is drawing a remnant out of corruption and into a special, supernatural nearness to Him.  They will empty themselves of everything. Every ambition will be burned out—except for one—to love and please the Lord Jesus Christ. They will change everything they are doing now, and begin to walk in the power of and for the glory of God Almighty!

And they will change everything!

An inconvenient fire

AN INCONVENIENT FIRE

By Mario Murillo

Al Gore spoke of an inconvenient truth. I am talking about something far more imposing: an inconvenient fire.

What is this fire doing?  It is spreading an insatiable hunger to know God: God alone.  A growing number of believers want to know God Himself—they want just Him.  They are not thinking about anything He can do for them.  They must know Him—more than oxygen, food and water—they must have God!

This fire awakens an ancient hunger—the hunger that possessed saints of old.  A.W. Tozer wrote, “Come near to the holy men and women of the past and you will soon feel the heat of their desire after God. They mourned for Him, they prayed and wrestled and sought for Him day and night, in season and out, and when they had found Him the finding was all the sweeter for the long seeking.”

And those who already know Him want to know Him better.  Tozer continued, “Moses used the fact that he knew God as an argument for knowing Him better. “Now, therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, show me now Thy way, that I may know Thee, that I may find grace in Thy sight”; and from there he rose to make the daring request, “I beseech Thee, show me Thy glory.” (Exodus 33) God was frankly pleased by this display of ardor, and the next day called Moses into the mount, and there in solemn procession made all His glory pass before him.”

But why would this inconvenient fire be the worst nightmare to masked Antifa thugs, tepid seeker-friendly churches, or false ministers?   Isn’t this fire pulling saints off the front lines into a full-time pursuit of God?   How can this be a threat?  It is the greatest threat!   NOTHING TERRIFIES SATAN MORE THAN A WIDESPREAD HUNGER TO KNOW GOD:

-It puts them into the place and condition that Jesus has yearned for His church to be.  They are in God’s presence. They are devoid of ideas, agendas, or blueprints.   Their intercession is no longer contaminated.  Prayer is no longer a booster rocket for pet projects.  They are becoming decentralized. They are self-emptying, that they might see God in all His beauty.

God has triumphed over their dead works.  By doing this, He kills the source of their anxiety, their cares, and inadequacies.   David Wilkerson said, “I had more ideas than any preacher in America. Ideas on how to evangelize. How to organize New Testament programs. The programs and ideas were successful enough to entrap me and keep me on the treadmill of busy-ness.

“But all along my heart yearned for more. I knew the blessing was not in building. Not in some well-planned scheme to reach the lost. Not in bigness, and not in activity. I discovered the hard way that the glory of God, the peace, and joy of the Spirit, was in being stripped down, emptied, and made totally weak.”

-They are suddenly alive to the real horror—their own fleshliness.  The issue is no longer the depravity of the culture, but their personal carnality.  This inconvenient fire struck Isaiah with such agony that he tossed aside his prayer for influence and power.  All he can cry is; “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” (Isaiah 6:5).   Isaiah is unmade, that he might be remade.

In the towering glory, you see the indescribable.   You see how victorious God is.  How inevitable His victory is!  You see Satan’s utter defeat.  You are transfixed by the wisdom that is now available—the resources at Gods’ disposal—the tactics He can use.  His mighty plan makes our plans microscopically puny.

God will declare to you what He said to Isaiah: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.  “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8,9)

-Here’s what makes this fire so inconvenient:  It was simply not part of the plan.

-It was not in the plan for the lukewarm ‘convenient’ church to level off and be overruled by inconvenient fire.  Attraction-based churches fold when God Himself becomes the attraction.

-It was not in the plan for fake ministers to ever stop lying, stop prospering, or fooling the masses.  The light and heat of this fire will expose and topple them.

-It was not in the plan for left-wing God-haters to see their plan to eradicate Christianity from America neutralized by inconvenient fire.

This spreading flame—and the powerful vessels it creates—was simply not in the plan.  Thus a new vessel is about to emerge−a God-designed weapon. An inconvenient sort of person is about to appear on the American stage. A person who will own a passion you cannot stop, who will speak words you cannot counter, and perform miracles you cannot deny.

Join me in seeking this inconvenient fire!
