YOU BETTER THANK GOD TRUMP IS PRESIDENT

Today, as I prayed, a strange and unexpected phrase leapt into my spirit, “Trump is about to have his Winston Churchill moment.” It stunned me because it seemed so inappropriate in the light of current events. This is no time for cheerleading or political grandstanding. We are in lockdown!

Yes, we are in lockdown. Across America, store shelves are as empty as if we were a socialist nation. The empty streets are even eerier than the empty shelves. My hometown of San Francisco will close at midnight tonight and will not open again until April 7th. Citizens are ordered to shelter in place—which is just a frightening euphemism for martial law.

Why should you thank God that Trump is President? How can I go so totally against the grain of political correctness in the face of a viral pandemic? When everyone is clamoring to say we need to stop fighting each other and come together against a common enemy, why would I write something as incendiary as being positive about Trump?

Why? Because I believe something is about to come out of Trump that even his closest friends will find stunning. And, what is that?  Let’s start with the ingredients that will build toward the coming Churchill moment.

He is a New Yorker. I have always loved New Yorkers. My favorite area to preach has always been New York. My preaching doesn’t scare them there. The New York side of Trump is about to make an appearance. That thing that’s in the water that makes the pizza so great, is also in Donald Trump. You want to get something done? Tell a New Yorker it’s impossible.

I am not talking about the reptilian Mayor De Blasio or the demonic Governor Cuomo. I am talking about New Yorkers from the former glory days.

Trump is about to go ‘New York’ in a good way—the old way! He is going to suggest (read: demand) some radical action to get America back on its feet in the shortest amount of time.

During WWII, Winston Churchill was hated by Parliament because he actually taunted them. Heck, he ridiculed them. London was bombed every night and Churchill went around behind the back of Parliament to get the things done that were necessary to stop Hitler and comfort the people of Great Britain. He relied on nothing but his own convictions to rally the nation to have courage and to exhibit resolve.  Do you hear me Mr. President? The moxie you had in Manhattan, you need right now!

I believe you will see Donald Trump act in many ways that the Left will squeal are ‘reckless.’ Because he loves America and Americans, he will ignore the critics who don’t count, and do what needs to be done.

Teddy Roosevelt described the Trump we are about to see:

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”

I am waiting for the words, “SO WHAT?” to come barreling up out of Trump. That whatever-it-is that says, “I don’t even care if I’m re-elected anymore! I am going to do whatever it takes and I don’t care who doesn’t like it.”

Mr. President, they will call you a despot—but you must ignore the soy milk-induced wrangling of the spineless politicians on the Hill.

Trump loves America and Americans even more than he loves being President. Because of that, I know he is about to rise to a previously unseen level of courage.  Washington D.C. is a corrupt city full of rodents in suits who really don’t care how many of its citizens this virus kills or how long it takes to do it. These sniveling rats only care about staying in power. They will continue their usual compliant and cowardly approach to leadership. They will say and do whatever it takes to create fear and weakness.

I think of Peter Strozk the weasel from the FBI. Remember the nuclear smugness and robotic aloofness of his appearance before Congress? That’s what I think of when I think of D.C.

Last of all, I believe that right now, as he is alone with his private thoughts, a fire is building up in our President. And that fire is from God. He was chosen for this crisis. He is right where he needs to be, right when we need him most to be there.  Can you imagine how badly Hillary would have handled this mess?

The fire in President Trump is going to find the words to rally the American Spirit. Our Commander in Chief is going to stir up the American eagle and it is going to soar. He will remind us that we never used to scare this easily. He will speak to the noblest part of our national character and he will convince us that, together, we can do this! We can and we will lick this virus.

He will inspire us to pay the price. So what if we have to sit at home and wait it out? So what if we have to risk our economy in order to defeat this menace? The fear is unwarranted. But the sacrifice is doable.

The airlines—the economy—our healthcare system—our churches, are all going to come roaring back and we will chase this Coronavirus back to the Petri dish where it belongs.

From the Spirit of 1776 in Philadelphia, to the generation that knocked out the Third Reich, to the voice on the moon that gave a giant leap to mankind—Americans have always conquered their fears, and then they have conquered their enemies.

Yeah, look out for Trump to go into Presidential beast mode. Millions will hate him for the bold decisiveness and the clarity he is about to show.  But you and I and millions more, are going to love him for it.

I would like to think that great heroes like Winston Churchill are looking down from above, and seeing a familiar metamorphosis taking place in Donald Trump, Winston is smiling.

WHAT I AM GOING TO DO NOW

No one who knows me well, has asked that question. They know better than that. They know what I am going to do. I’ve even had friends call from great distances and say, “I know what you’re going to do!” More on that in a moment. I want to get to something else.

What happened in Chico was Satan. Paul wrote, “Therefore we wanted to come to you—even I, Paul, time and again—but Satan hindered us.” (1 Thessalonians 2:18)

When people make up rules on the spot, you know that is Satan. When you are told you can’t have a gathering, but there is a car race going on in the background, that is Satan. When not a single case of Coronavirus is recorded within 200 miles, and you are accused of being irresponsible, that is Satan. When lukewarm churches oppose soul winning and miracles, then you know it is Satan.

The good people of Chico were robbed—not by a virus but by hate and fear. They were robbed by leftists prematurely spreading a panic. In my opinion, they were targeting Christians. Even now, Casinos are still open, while at the same time, churches are ordered to close.  As if Casinos have some magical protection that churches don’t.

Satan wants to stop all of our crusades. Satan knew the momentum that would be generated by this crusade. Here is what really bites: Not one person would have gotten sick from the virus, but a lot of people would have been healed of serious diseases. I believe that cancers would have been healed, along with many other truly life threatening sicknesses.

But more importantly, the worst sickness of all would have been healed—sin sick souls! I just got off the phone with one of our board members. He was telling me how a friend he has been inviting to church for many years, but who would never go, had agreed to come to the Tent in Chico. Only God knows how many other souls would have come.

I had to calm down a fire-breathing army of soul winners who were all set to return to Chico today and hit the streets. At this point, they would have been unduly endangered, trying to pray for people. They would also be in direct defiance of the government’s orders. No, the devil may have won this battle.  BUT NEVER AGAIN!

Do you still want to ask what I am going to do now?   We were born in the fire of student riots. We waded through tear gas and protesters.  During the A.I.D.S. epidemic we never backed down. Ten more epidemics have come and gone since then. What are we going to do?

We will not relent. We will reload. As soon as the ban lifts we will win more souls than ever. We are going to expand our outreach to the Highway 99 Corridor. Every aspect of our outreach will intensify.

I know the Coronavirus is a real crisis. I agree that getting America to lay low will help blunt the epidemic. I am not in disagreement with the call to limit this virus. I do not oppose the safeguards that are recommended now by health professionals.

Here’s what I do oppose. I oppose the Left which is creating a parallel crisis of fear and panic. They seek to divide and blame and inflame mindless passions. But, what else is new?

My other issue is this: closing down churches while leaving other places where people gather wide open does not look like an effort to stop a virus. It looks like an effort to stop the church. And what will California do after this virus passes? Will they let up on the church or have they created a pretext to stop the church any time and for any reason they want?

I remember how, during a major drought, they raised the price of water with a solemn promise that when the drought ended prices would return to normal. Instead, right when the drought subsided they invented one of the most insidious surcharges I’ve ever heard of. It’s called an elevation charge. They charge people for how high the water had to flow to get to them—even when there was zero evidence that it cost them anything extra to deliver the water.

This is an hour when discernment is crucial. The church must abide by rules that protect the public and help stop the pandemic. But the church must also be aware when being shut down is not happening because of a virus, rather, it is happening because the Left wants to shut down churches and stop the Gospel.

But they will fail.

“So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. The Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” says the Lord. (Is. 59:19-20)

 

World Changing Faith

TO BEGIN WITH, I BELIEVE SOMEONE WILL READ THIS AND CHANGE THE WORLD-Mario Murillo

How did we lose world changing faith? We lost it because our culture disparages greatness, audacity, courage, originality, and heroism.  Our children are barraged with messages of defeat and limitations.  Worse yet, they are told that wanting to excel might hurt someone else’s feelings.

The curse of so many of today’s educators is that they have trained this generation to believe that they are to do just enough to get by.  Instead of going for brilliance and creativity, many are conditioned to harp, whine, and have a temper tantrum against the unfairness of the world.

“Besides,” their teachers say, “you can’t change the world.”  Teachers themselves believe this ideology makes the world safer.  Seneca had it right when he said, “It is not because the times are dangerous that men do not dare, it is because men do not dare that the times are dangerous.”

Small people with small minds mold the future.  You can be sure that if small men cast large shadows, it means the sun is about to set.  Is there anything we can do to push back the approaching darkness?  Where are the world-changers?

Tragically, the lie that you can’t change the world also permeates Christian Colleges.  Christian leaders are being trained not to offend. They are studying what to leave out of their preaching.  Their professors serve a smaller God than the One we used to hear about in church—the God of the Bible. They graduate with self doubt instead of world changing faith.

Billy Graham and Oral Roberts.  Astonishingly, some will not know the two men in the picture.  They changed the world.  Billy Graham preached to more people, face to face and on television, than any other man in history.  Oral Roberts brought divine healing to his generation.

How bad is our defeatism?  When Billy Graham died, some notable leaders called it “the end of God’s protection.”  Others said, “We will never see another one like him.”

I rebuke both of those statements.  And it is not just me. All of human history rebukes such pallid words—and nothing in the Bible supports them, either. Frankly, the doubting church doesn’t need another soothing sermon. It needs a swift kick!

The promises of God and the power of God to change the world are still in force. Billy Graham and Oral Roberts would be horrified to hear us either make monuments of them or call them relics of a past era.  Their testimony should be a catalyst for God to do it again!

This promise is not just for men either!  Joel: 2:28 says, “I will pour out of my Spirit on your sons and daughters and they will prophesy…”  And no one is too old…”your old men shall dream dreams.”

Are these times so evil that we can’t break the gravitational force of wickedness?  No one has the right to tell God what He can or cannot do.  There is no devil, demagogue, or disaster too big for God.   

You could listen to doomsayers—those who morbidly hope for all hell to break loose—or you can seize the Word of God the way that Billy and Oral did.

Here are three timeless truths about world-changers:

1. World-changers appear when things look impossible. The same voices of doubt and despair were present at the dawn of Billy and Oral’s ministries.  There was no money available to them to do what they wanted to do.  There was no supporting faith surrounding their visions.  They were constantly being second guessed by those who were full of unbelief.

It was not until they cast themselves utterly on God that their breakthroughs came.

When Esther appeared, the Jews seemed hopelessly doomed.  Mordecai spoke these immortal words to her: “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14)

2. World-changers know when to go it alone. God kept telling Gideon to shrink his army—not enlarge it.   It was only after he won an astonishing victory that the other tribes found out and got offended. “Now the men of Ephraim said to him, ‘Why have you done this to us by not calling us when you went to fight with the Midianites?’ And they reprimanded him sharply.” (Judges 8:1)

The vision of the Lord is always too big for the church. True visions from God will always be too big for any one church or denomination.  Both Billy Graham and Oral Roberts had to follow God, and let the church come along later.  If you wait for approval, you will never begin to fulfill your vision.

Also, world-changers don’t mope when people won’t support them.  They know that if God is with them, who can be against them?

3. World-changers believe God can do it again.  While nostalgia makes some yearn for the good old days, and despair makes others invent impossibilities—world-changers say, “Why not now, why not here, and why not me?”

1 Samuel 14:6: “Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, ‘Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord from saving by many or by few.’”

These two were in the grip of two explosive thoughts:  The testimony of what God has done in the past, and an inconsolable grief over the present evil condition of the world.  This dilemma placed a motivating burden on them, and caused them to cry out for a new move of God in history.

This was the incurable obsession that made Habakkuk cry out “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and I was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years!  In the midst of the years make Yourself known; In wrath remember mercy. (Habakkuk 3:2)

Someone will read this and change the world.  Was I being arrogant by giving my blog that title?  No. I believe the Holy Spirit told me to write this and I believe He will get it into the hands of a world-changer.  Why not you? Why not let God inflame you with world changing faith!

UPDATE: YOU TAKE THE VICTORIES GOD GIVES YOU

You take the victories God gives you.  My primary care physician thought I had bursitis of the hip.  “I am referring you to a sports medicine doctor to get a cortisone shot and you will feel better fast.”  

So I went.  Something bothered the next doctor. Why wasn’t I feeling pain when he pushed on the hip joint.  But went he bent the leg outward I screamed. “This feels more like a stress fracture.”  That meant 6 weeks of lying immobile and then rehab.  So much for our World Convention.

He takes X-rays.  X-rays can’t see many stress fractures.  This one didn’t.  “You need a cat-scan.”

Two more days of night and day pain.  My wife and assistant take me  in the car with seat almost flat.  Wheelchairs and crutches increase my pain.  I must walk slowly with my arm on somebody.

Mechelle goes in the hospital while we wait in the car.  She explains to the front desk that I cannot stand or sit.  I can only lie down. The front desk manager assures her I can walk directly to the cat-scan table.  However, some devil got on her.  When I finally made it inside seconds away from collapsing with pain.  She insisted rudely that more signatures are required. 

I dove to the floor in front of everybody.  Somehow, doing that speeds things up. The two nicest nurses came to my rescue.  I am on the hard table gritting my teeth during the scan and finally it is over. We go home with still no relief.

Someone suggested in a Facebook comment that I repent.  Believe me, lying there in the dead of night with no position that relieves the agony—you repent of everything.  I even repented for my ancestors—whoever they are.

Back to the sports medicine doctor with the cat-scan results.  He looks and looks and says there is no fracture.  That was yesterday.  Where did it go?  Was it there and the prayers of so many were answered?  That would not surprise me. You take the victories God gives you and build on that.

He kept telling me this is good news.  I can get a cortisone shot now.  So give it to me! He can’t, he doesn’t have an ultra-sound machine.  I am thinking,  that’s why I was sent here in the first place!

“I am referring you to a doctor who is a specialist in these things.”  Code for “we don’t know what’s wrong with you.”  Back to square one.

I can walk better.  There are even times now where the pain subsides to a dull ache.  There you have it.  You take the victories God gives you.  You worship Him.  You thank Him.  

Mechelle and I want to thank the host of people who took time to tell us they are praying.  As I said before…there is no version of this where the enemy wins.

HE MAKES THE NATIONS PROVE

Evil men rage madly.  Tyrants and rogue nations taunt the civilized world.  Societies are unhinged by lust and addiction.  Because of villains, the candle of peace, joy, and hope flickers in the wind.

Villains come in all shapes in sizes.  They may hurl test missiles to taunt the nations.  They may hire terrorists to destabilize the world.  They may run factories to kill the unborn.  They may profit from drug addiction.  They may run a social media lie machine.  They may poison young minds in university lecture halls.  They may be the grasping, soulless politicians who will do anything to stay in power.

And they assume nothing can stop them.  They believe they shape the world.   Psalm 73: 6-9 says, “therefore pride serves as their necklace; Violence covers them like a garment.  Their eyes bulge with abundance; They have more than heart could wish. They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression; They speak loftily.  They set their mouth against the heavens, And their tongue walks through the earth.”

Arrogance is the hallmark of evil.  Believing you are in control is the quintessential delusion of oppressors.  How, oh man, can you believe you decide the outcome?

The boasts and actions of today’s evildoers are strangely familiar.  They remind me of that day the Wise Men arrived in Jerusalem.  The entire city was in an uproar—without invitation and warning—heads of state, kings, and potentates arrive, with a bustling entourage, and treasure.  What could this mean?

Satan had taken every precaution to prevent the Christ catastrophe.  This baby will not be born.  This light will never shine in darkness.  Yet, all the hordes of hell, and their earthly minions could not stop the arrival—the desire of ages had come.  A baby imposed its will on the whole disapproving world.

Herod oozes with hate.  He fakes homage to the new born king.  He asks the Magi to come back with the location of the child, “that I may come and worship him also.”

Angels intervene, and the Wise Men escape.  Still, Herod orders the massacre of all baby boys in Bethlehem.

What kind of insanity makes you believe you can kill God incarnate?  And how deep a hate is this, that the angel must tell Joseph “Herod will never recover from this—you must not return until he is dead.”  What madness!

It’s the madness of today.  It’s the madness of the United Nations—who do not even understand why they hate Israel.  It’s the insanity of those who want to erase the teachings and values of Christ—as if they were a disease.  It’s the petty, insufferable thinking that turned Merry Christmas into a hate crime.  It’s all the same witch’s brew that brought us the destruction of marriage, free speech, and faith.

How did Herod’s story end?  A fitting end: He died during a lunar eclipse.  God switched off Herod’s night light shortly after the birth of Christ.

The Psalmist who despaired that evil men would win saw the truth at last:  “When I thought how to understand this, It was too painful for me—Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.  Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction.   Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment!  They are utterly consumed with terrors.”  Psalm 73:16-19

But, stars, and angels are not the only miracles of Christmas.  Classic Christmas Carols are also miracles.  How else can we explain such enduring, and beautiful songs?  Profound truth, and unequaled poetry lives in them.  We sing them so often their miraculous eloquence flies right past us.  Take for example these words from Joy to the World: “He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove, The glories of His righteousness, And wonders of His love.”

Let every evil doer who exalts themselves against God take heed.   He makes the nations prove!  He will make you, evil man, prove His Glory.  Not only when every knee will bow.  Long before then.  Every plan will backfire.  Every wicked plot will be confiscated, reworked, and morph into something that advances God’s plan.

Beware God hater.  The Lord of Lords is mounting a response to the madness of the world.  Your schemes will fail fantastically.

Rejoice beloved child of God.  Something big is coming.  Prepare for impossible breakthroughs.

If you battle despair take heart:  He makes the nations prove.  If darkness has weighed you down with care, let Christmas—the real Christmas—do its mighty work in your soul.

This is not just the birthday of Jesus, it is the yearly reminder that evil cannot win.

I leave you with the words of another Carol, I heard the bells of Christmas day:

And in despair I bowed my head There is no peace on earth I said

For hate is strong and mocks the song Of peace on earth goodwill to men

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep God is not dead, nor does He sleep

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail With peace on earth goodwill to men

When God closes one door He opens another but it can be hell in the hallway.   What good is failure and frustration?  Why has God closed every door to you?   Why has the Lord devised this divine interruption?  It can seem cruel and everything in you can rail against it.

What are you doing here?  What good is failure and frustration?  Why has God closed every door to you?   Why has the Lord devised this divine interruption?  It can seem cruel and everything in you can rail against it.

God will trap you in the hallway.  Jeremiah screamed, “He has hedged me in so that I cannot get out; He has made my chain heavy.” -Lamentations 3: 7

Hannah’s hell looked like this: “And her rival also provoked her severely, to make her miserable, because the Lord had closed her womb”- 1 Samuel 1: 6. Why would a loving God intensify her shame and pain by closing her womb?

Elijah was sent to the wilderness only to have God cut off his water supply: “And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.” – 1 Kings 17:7 How does any of this make sense?

Paul had doors slammed in his face by the Holy Spirit: Acts 16: 6 “Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.”

Not only this, Paul was put in prison at the very moment his physical presence in the churches was desperately needed. What gives?

The hallway seems like hell but if you calm your raging spirit and quell your fears and worries you can turn it into heaven.

The hallway is trying to save you.  Paul indeed had doors closed but then this happened in his hallway:  Acts 16: 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’ 10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.”

You have gotten good at doing things you are not supposed to be doing.  You are off course.  The hallway is waking you up to the fact that you are busy but not effective. The hallway is where you end the tyranny of unimportant things.

The hallway is trying to teach you once and for all that God is your source: 1 Kings 17:8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 ‘Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.’”

Elijah’s welfare was never in doubt.  Even in drought and famine he was safe.  God was trying to show him that whether it is brooks, ravens, or starving widows, God will take care of you.

This forced interruption serves to slay your deepest fears.  The world did not end. The bills got paid.  No threat prospered against you.  The hallway shows you God is your only source.  Outward sources of provision are mirages.  Your heart is fixed trusting in the Lord.

The Hallway deepens right desires and kills selfish motives.  God closes Hannah’s womb to deepen her desire for children.  In the hallway, she became willing to offer her first child to God.  That child became Samuel the prophet.  He saved Israel and is considered second only to Moses in Judaism.   But it gets way better: God remembered Hannah:  1 Samuel 2: 21 says, “And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile the child Samuel grew before the Lord.”  What an amazing outcome!  Not only does she get 5 more children—a prophet comes to save a nation.

The Hallway is a slingshot to unimagined momentum.  You seem immobilized and even like you are going backwards.  You are going backwards…for good reason!  Mighty elastic bands are being stretched to blast you forward.

Paul learned this lesson from his jail cell:  Philippians 1: 12 “But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel, 13 so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ; 14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.”

He writes triumphantly to Timothy from the hallway: “for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. -2 Timothy 2:9

The Hallway is where you find out that just knowing God is everything.  I have—for reasons I will never know till I get to heaven—been privileged to know some of the most honored Christians in our lifetime.  At first, I notice the massive ministries they built.  Soon that fades and all you see is their intimate relationship with Jesus—their practical dependency on the Holy Spirit, and their passion to obey.

Jesus said, “John 15: 7 “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”  That is it!  These giants abide in Christ and everything else is secondary.  Until God frustrates your life and pulls the plug on your charade, you can’t know that.   Whatever you need to do will be done if you abide in Christ and His words abide in you.

These last days are horrible.  Within the church we have false doctrine, carnal leaders and a divided church.  Without, we have a world that is complicated and anti-Christian…it is a world that can blow up at any moment.  Don’t look for crisis to end but for God to work in you to make crisis lose its power to terrorize you.

The temptation to take matters into our own hands—to be obsessed with self-preservation and self-promotion—is greater than ever.  That is why there are hallways.

Daniel 11: 32 describes end time people.  It says, “Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”   Why are they strong?  Why do they do great exploits?  Because they know God.

Knowing God in the hallway—losing all your fear—being completely overtaken by Him can not only bring heaven in the hallway…you may not want to leave.

I leave you with these words from the book God Calling: “The world has always seen service for me to be activity.  Only those near to me have seen that a life apart, of prayer, may, and does so often, accomplish more that all of the service man can offer me. If man lived apart with Me and only went out to serve at My direct command My Spirit could operate more and accomplish truly mighty things.”
