Elite K-8 school teaches white students they’re born racist

An elite Manhattan school is teaching white students as young as 6 that they’re born racist and should feel guilty benefiting from “white privilege,” while heaping praise and cupcakes on their black peers.

Administrators at the Bank Street School for Children on the Upper West Side claim it’s a novel approach to fighting discrimination, and that several other private New York schools are doing it, but even liberal parents aren’t buying it.

A slide from the Bank School shows the different goals for white children (right) and “kids of color” (left).

They complain the K-8 school of 430 kids is separating whites in classes where they’re made to feel awful about their “whiteness,” and all the “kids of color” in other rooms where they’re taught to feel proud about their race and are rewarded with treats and other privileges.

“Ever since Ferguson, the school has been increasing anti-white propaganda in its curriculum,” said a parent who requested anonymity because he has children currently enrolled in the school.

Bank Street has created a “dedicated space” in the school for “kids of color,” where they’re “embraced” by minority instructors and encouraged to “voice their feelings” and “share experiences about being a kid of color,” according to school presentation slides obtained by The Post.

Meanwhile, white kids are herded into separate classrooms and taught to raise their “awareness of the prevalence of Whiteness and privilege,” challenge “notions of colorblindness (and) assumptions of ‘normal,’ ‘good,’ and ‘American’” and “understand and own European ancestry and see the tie to privilege.”

The same slides point out that a number of leading private schools across the country also have segregated students by “race-based affinity groups.” It lists several in New York, including Riverdale Country School, Brooklyn Friends School, The Cathedral School, The Calhoun School, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, and Little Red School House and Elisabeth Irwin High School.

‘One hundred percent of the curriculum is what whites have done to other races. They offer nothing that would balance the story.’
– Anonymous Bank Street parent

Under Bank Street’s “Racial Justice and Advocacy” curriculum, parents say, teachers push white kids to grapple with America’s history of racism. Then they indoctrinate them into thinking “systemic racism” still exists, and that they’re part of the problem and must hold themselves accountable even for acts of racism committed by others.

“One hundred percent of the curriculum is what whites have done to other races,” said another Bank Street parent. “They offer nothing that would balance the story.”

Added the parent, who also asked to go unnamed: “Any questions they can’t answer they rationalize under the pretense of ‘institutional racism,’ which is never really defined.”

The program, these parents say, deliberately instills in white children a strong sense of guilt about their race. Some kids come home in tears, saying, “I’m a bad person.”

They say white kids are being brainwashed into thinking any success they achieve is unearned. Indeed, a young white girl is seen confessing on a Bank Street video: “I feel guilty for having a privilege I don’t deserve.”

Parents, moreover, say the classroom segregation only breeds resentment. Younger children, for instance, feel left out when the “kids of color” come back to the main classroom munching on cupcakes they were given in their “affinity group.”

The divisive program is run by Anshu Wahi, a longtime “social justice” activist who’s held the title of “director of diversity” at Bank Street since 2013. She referred questions to the school’s communications office, which did not respond to requests for comment.

Still, Wahi’s radical beliefs come into clear view from recorded conversations with parents, as well as handouts and emails to parents. She believes the answer to racism is teaching white kids to see race in everything — a process called “white racial socialization.”

Forget teaching them to be color-blind — that’s a cop-out, she suggests, an excuse to ignore the hardships of people of color. It’s also a “tool of whiteness” to perpetuate the “oppression” of people of color, according to one paper she recommends parents read.

Wahi believes even white babies display signs of racism, so she encourages parents to talk to their kids about race as early as kindergarten, making them hyperaware of racial differences, and even “examine your own whiteness.”

She defends segregating minority children by race by arguing they need a safe place where they can share their “ouch moments,” including subtle but offensive white comments known as “micro-aggressions.

“Bank Street wants to give kids of color a space to talk about shared experiences,” Wahi explained in a parent handout, “because even in society today, people of color are treated unfairly.”

“In the recent past,” she added, “children of color in our Lower School have been told by well-intentioned peers that their skin looks like the color of poop.”

Wahi says the school is merely empowering children of color who feel “alienated” and “devalued” in a “dominant white culture.” But some parents fear the school is nurturing resentment among minority pupils and reinforcing perceptions of victimization.

Her extreme diversity program is based on the premise that America is still plagued by “systemic racism,” which she claims she saw first-hand while serving as a juror hearing criminal cases in Brooklyn. She told parents she was shocked to learn that every case involved a minority defendant. In the same May 2015 meeting with parents, she cited the GI Bill as proof of “white privilege,” claiming the popular post-World War II legislation only benefited white soldiers and their heirs, when in fact, black enrollment in colleges exploded under the GI Bill.

Most recently, parents were upset with her airing a documentary film lionizing leaders of the violent Black Panthers movement. On May 31, the Bank Street School screened “Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution,” which depicts Panthers founder and convicted cop-killer Huey Newton as a martyr.

In 2013, moreover, parents expressed outrage over an email from Wahi that seemed to sympathize with Muslim terrorists after the Boston Marathon bombings.

The April 17, 2013, message — “From Anshu, our Director of Diversity and Community: The Boston Marathon — Another Perspective” — advised students and parents to “be mindful of stereotypes and dangerous ideas” regarding “Arabs (and) Muslims.”

It linked to an article titled “Let’s hope the Boston Marathon bomber is a white American.”

Cops ignore Bratton, turn backs on de Blasio at officer’s funeral

Thousands of NYPD cops turned their backs on Mayor de Blasio on Sunday outside a Brooklyn funeral home as he eulogized a murdered NYPD officer inside. As de Blasio addressed the loved ones of Detective Wenjian Liu in the Aievoli Funeral Home in Bensonhurst, the sea of blue watching the funeral on huge TV screens outside showed their disgust for Hizzoner by turning around as he spoke.Cops have been furious with de Blasio mainly since the grand-jury rulings involving the deaths of Staten Island dad Eric Garner and Missouri teen Michael Brown, two unarmed black men who died during confrontations with white cops. Neither cop was criminally charged. The mayor said afterward that he worries about how his son, Dante, who is half-black, might be treated by police because of his race. The cops say de Blasio’s comment is just another instance in which he has added to the anti-cop sentiment in the city.Liu and Officer Rafael Ramos were sitting in their patrol car in Bedford-Stuyvesant on Dec. 20 when deranged, cop-hating killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley came up from behind to execute them. Brinsley committed suicide before cops could catch him.Officers first turned their backs to de Blasio when he visited the hospital where Ramos and Liu were treated. They then also turned turned their backs to him outside the church where Ramos’ funeral was held Dec. 27.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton asked officers not to repeat that silent protest at Liu’s funeral Sunday.

lCops from across the country joined the ceremony honoring Liu.

“All of our city is heart-broken today,” de Blasio told mourners. “All of this city is feeling the pain, and all of the city wants to lift up the Liu family and the Ramos family.”

Liu’s loved ones, many who traveled here from China, arrived for the service in a procession of eight black vans and two limos.

“Detective Wenjian Liu was a good man. He walked a path of courage, a path of sacrifice, a path of kindness,” de Blasio said. “This is who he was.”

US Rep. Peter King (R-Long Island) said as he arrived for Liu’s funeral, “I’ve been critical of the mayor, [but] today is not the day for that [protest]. I understand why the police did what they did [at Ramos’s service]. I think the police have made their point. [But] that should be behind us now. I wouldn’t do it myself.”

Widow Pei Xia Chen reacts while clutching a photo of slain New York Police Department officer Wenjian Liu as his casket departs his funeral in the Brooklyn borough of New York

Pei Xia Chen cries while clutching a photo of her slain husband.

Two plainclothes cops, outside the funeral home, made no apologies for their back-turning protest.

“He [de Blasio] turned his back on us,” one officer said.

“I can’t stand even looking at him,” the other cop said. “He has no friends here.”

Liu is believed to be the first Chinese- American New York cop killed in the line of duty.

In addition to Sunday’s service, Liu’s loved ones were expected to hold private ceremonies with Buddhist and Chinese funeral traditions.

“To me, he is my soul mate,” Liu’s grieving widow, Pei Xia Chen, told mourners. “Wenjian is an incredible husband, son, co-worker and friend – my best friend. ”

Chen said policing was a passion of Liu’s.

“As the only son, the No. 1 son, he was extremely close [to] and respected his parents , of course,” she said. “One of this many passion was being a police officer. He took pride in the fact that he was NYPD.”

Chen was in tears throughout her address.

She finished by saying, “I thank you, my extended family, my family of blue.”

Liu will be buried at Cypress Hills Cemetery.

The 32-year-old had been on the job for seven years. Liu emigrated from China 20 years ago and dreamed of being a police officer.

Liu had only been married for two months when he was killed.

I need you to own this opportunity to save our nation

By Mario Murillo

If there was an opportunity to restore America and leave one nation under God  for our children and our grandchildren would you take that opportunity?

But how can we imagine any opportunity while we watch the nation go up in flames?  We are engulfed in lawlessness, racial hatred, and decadence. Images of rioting and looting cover the nation.  Instead of turning to God in our disaster our citizens casts Him away.  Our elected officials squander precious time obsessed by things that do not matter.

How can we imagine any opportunity while Christian leaders are throwing their hands up saying that it is impossible to rescue America?  Some even employ Bible prophecy to insist that America must be destroyed so we can have an antichrist, one world government, and hence the Second Coming of Christ.

Blinded and choked by the smoke of chaos outside the church and by defeatism inside the church how can anyone see any opportunity?

But what if there was a glimmer of hope?  What if in all the twisted rubble there was a chance to make a real difference?   What if there was something we could do?

At this point, I am not even asking you to imagine a solution for America.  I am asking “if there was a real opportunity, would you take it?”

Not long ago I returned from a ministry trip.  I opened my front door, and dropped my luggage.  I became keenly aware that I had just done something for the very last time in my life.

There was something that I could never do again and I will never do it again…to do it again will at best shorten my life and at worse, it will take my like.  Never again could I be a part of a regular church meeting.

In that moment, everything I had ever done for Christ was being lumped into one seed and was about to be put in the ground to die. From that point on, Mario Murillo Ministries had to become an unimpaired vessel of healing to the nation.  Whatever personal sacrifice that it would require and whatever rejection it might bring became irrelevant.

Los Banos 3

Now I had to let God expose these false assumptions:

America cannot be saved.  Joel 2: 13, 14 say, “So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. Who knows if He will turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him?”

The words “Who knows” jumped out at me!  Since God relents from doing harm who are you and who am I to say America is finished?  Who knows but God?

When the disciples wanted destruction Jesus rebuked them.  Luke 9: 54 And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” 55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.”

Habakkuk “3:2 shows us how to pray; “O Lord, I have heard Your speech and was afraid; O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years! In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy.”  We should be trying for mercy not destruction!

suicide

Americans are too sophisticated to sit and hear the Gospel.  Yes, this is the most complicated and easily offended culture ever.  It is virtually impossible to even know what to say to them.  However, we have no excuse because Jesus Himself promised in Luke 21: 15 “I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.”

James 1:5 promises us we can ask for that wisdom, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

I asked and I received wisdom!  That is part of the great opportunity that I want you to own.

Mario Murillo Ministries cannot stay where it has been.  It is time for us to make radical changes because the crisis demands it and God has ordered it.

When written in Chinese, the word ‘crisis’ is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity.  Here is our danger and our opportunity.

Our danger: Mario Murillo Ministries is in danger of losing its life if we remain where we are at this time.  America is too far gone for regular meetings in regular places.  We are too far gone to have any more regular meetings in regular places.  What is killing us is threefold:

  1. Limiting our outreaches to church buildings. This has never been a good way for a soul winning ministry to change a nation. To continue to do this will only break my spirit and ultimately take my life.  For my family’s sake I refuse to do this anymore. The only time that I feel healthy is when I walk out of a meeting where the masses have been saved and healed.
  2. Interrupting our invasions at key moments because we have to go back to churches for needed offerings. To make a meaningful dent into this present darkness we must have an uninterrupted flow of supernatural outreach.  In short, our ministry must turn into a movement and the only way to do that is to let momentum build in city after city.
  3. We have not had a chance to show what our team can really do. We want unchurched audiences to experience our event done our way. We must be the creative force behind every moment of a Living Proof Event.

The public should not be forced to choose between Christian events that are either frozen or freaky.  There is no rule that says a soul winning event should be a boring, powerless, apology tour that blunts the gifts of the Spirit.  On the other hand, there is no excuse for a hyper emotional meltdown that blesses self-indulgent believers but leaves outsiders rolling their eyes.

living proof flag

Why can’t we have order and freedom? In describing manifestations of the Holy Spirit Paul said “Let all things be done decently and in order.” – 1 Corinthians 14:40.

Likewise, we believe that worship music does not have to be a carnal concert or mindless repetition.  Let music be anointed to touch the hearts of outsiders.

We are finally in a position to be able to present to the unchurched public a very unique kind of experience in our meetings.  It has taken years to get here but God has done it!

We need a onetime infusion of money that will release us to finally and fully present Living Proof to America. I am asking for $100,000.  It is not a random amount it is a prayerfully discerned amount.  It represents a gift that will take us to the level where we can attack without interruption and present the Gospel without restriction.

This is not a lot of money in today’s world.  In many organizations this would not make a dent but with this gift we can launch a full scale attack.

Mario Murillo Ministries is in a life and death situation.  We have already shut down business as usual.  We are going to change our ministry even before the money gets here. We cannot wait until it is affordable to win America, we are going now.

If just 200 people responded to this letter we can meet our goal.  I have prayed for people to be moved to give a onetime gift in these 5 amounts:  $5,000, $2500, $1,000, $500, and $250.

I am so certain that those core of partners are about to change our ministry forever that I am planning a commemorative wall of honor to inscribe the names of those who gave at this critical moment in our history.  You can put your name or the name of someone you love on a wall that will always be remembered as the heroes who carried us into our future.

Let me say one last thing to you.

Every day something good about America is erased.  It is going to take more than cozy talks to reverse our moral avalanche.  The sickness of our nation calls for something unlike anything we have seen so far.

We cannot keep doing what we are doing…that is the inescapable truth.  When it comes to Satan in America, the Church must quit taking a dull knife to a gun fight.

Here is an important point: Any ministry that operates without the weapons of the Holy Spirit is just spinning its wheels.  Nothing can stand against the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

Would you please consider giving a thousand dollars?  Maybe you are that one person who would give a $5,000 gift because God restored your finances and blessed you abundantly.  Maybe $250 is a big step of faith for you but is one that you want to take.

We are calling gifts of $5,000, $1,000, $500, or $250 FOUNDER’S GIFTS because they are laying the foundation for our greatest outreaches ever. We will inscribe their name or the name of a loved one on our Wall of Remembrance and Honor. But remember, no matter what you give it will take us toward our goal of $100,000.

Maybe you meant to give more to the Gospel this year but did not get around to it.  By clicking below you will be directed to our donation page and if you give by this Thursday it can be credited to your 2014 income taxes.

A TERRIFYING YEAR — YET THERE’S HOPE

 On the Money

A TERRIFYING YEAR — YET THERE’S HOPE

By Ben Stein

Away from the White House and Justice Department, America has been doing great things.

Christmas 2014
This has been a terrifying year. Unspeakable brutality by Islamist terrorists in the Middle East and in Africa. A level of barbarity towards the innocent that would have made Eichmann envious. A world that in large measure kowtows to the most violent and bloodthirsty and turns on the most innocent and law-abiding (think Hamas vs. Israel). In this year, no one demonstrated in the streets of Europe’s capitals against Islamists who murdered children by the thousands but did protest screamingly against the major guardians of law and decency in the world, the USA and Israel.

In this year, man’s essential mean-spiritedness ran riot, with fanatics of various stripes and Islamists brutalizing universities either physically or by the essential evil of their tortured so-called “thoughts.” This was at prestige universities in the United States. indonesianislamists

In 2014, the President and the Attorney-General, both men of color, sought to awaken the demons of racism for votes. That was not “just politics.” That was something like sedition from on high. People are fragile on the subject of race. To have the most exalted in the land stir up fear and anger about race over highly dubious claims of racism was in fact wildly dangerous racism in and of itself.

To see the “black power” flags run up on Pennsylvania Avenue by the mightiest of the mighty was a distressing spectacle. It got the GOP overwhelming control of Congress. I am sure it will get the GOP the White House if it continues, for even Hillary is not inevitable if the Democrat party makes itself the party of anti-white racist feeling.

Is America racist? Well, Americans are people. People dislike other people pushing them around. Black people do not like being pushed around and white people do not like being pushed around. That is not racism. That is basic humanity. Nations get into trouble when one sector pushes another sector around for grievances that were once horribly real, but no longer are.

Civil rights activist Al Sharpton speaks at the National Action Network in Harlem, New York
In other words, until Mr. Obama came along to capitalize on racial feelings, poll data showed Americans feeling pretty good about race relations. Now, Americans are fearful and anxious about race. This is a colossal step backwards. This is what happens when the President is beholden to extremists and agitators and must dance to the tune they call about race-baiting. I totally see how it came about. But it’s time to walk back. Time, high time, to back down from that race-baiting cliff.

In other words, when the President of the United States listens to Al Sharpton and takes him seriously, we are in a lot of trouble. We are a glorious, God-centered nation. We can rise above racial antagonisms. We have done it in the past. We can do it in the future, if, if, if politicians can step back from mortgaging America’s future to win votes. A big “if”…

So my gloomy thoughts run on this glorious Christmas in Rancho Mirage, with the stars painting the night sky behind my palm trees.

But I also have seen great things this year. My job is, in large part, to speak at events, often business-related events. And here I see magnificent things happening. I see auto dealers who have completely changed the way selling and financing and servicing of cars works. A business notorious for sharp practice is now a business people trust and love. It is fun to buy a car.

I have seen the tenacious oil people, who fought like warriors to drill—and now they have brought cheap gasoline to America—at huge cost to themselves. When you fill your tank for roughly two-thirds of what it would have cost a year ago, it’s no thanks to the government. No thanks to Hollywood. It is thanks to those oilmen whom the government loves to criticize and lambaste.gas-price

But the most surprising and impressive people I saw were the finance people. Cursed and double-cursed by the media, they have wrought miracles. In health care especially, they have financed breakthroughs in diagnosis and cures for disease, in management of pain, in making the lives of us humans longer, more pleasant, and pain-free. It is an inspiring sight to see a room filled with the best and brightest of our young people and middle-aged people, men and women of all races, seeking to find the best medicines and diagnostic tools and anodynes to keep the world’s people’s lives brighter.

Yes, they do it for money. That’s fine. That is a perfectly good motive. But they do it, and the meds get in the pipeline and heart disease and tumors get diagnosed early. This is what finance should be.

I have seen America working together for a better life for the whole world, the intelligence and money coming out of finance and into the hearts and bloodstreams of Earth’s people. It is an inspiring sight. On TV and on the campuses, people look for trouble and ways to cause pain. In the venture capital and private equity firms, without fanfare, without the mainstream media, lives are being made better. And if profits come, they pay for the retirements of firefighters and police and elementary school teachers. Capitalism is working beautifully. If we can keep the wolves of envy away from the door, man’s world will be sunnier.

Grief knows no color:  Preaching peace on earth and goodwill toward men during a race war.

By Mario Murillo

Matthew 2: 16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying: 18 “A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, Refusing to be comforted, Because they are no more.”

Grief knows no color.  Just ask the wives and mothers of those who have been slain.  They do not care about politicians, race hustlers or racists.  All they know is that someone irreplaceable has been ripped from them.  All they feel is a grief that cannot be cried out our solaced by any human cure.

As surely as Herod ordered the death of baby boys in Bethlehem Satan has ordered the deaths of young black men and police officers in America.  After he has done his dirty work the devil sits back and laughs at how we choose sides and ignore him altogether.

The best way, the fastest way and the only way to destroy America is set herself against herself in ravenous hate…hate that will eat us up alive, hate that will blind us to the one thing we should be doing right now.

Why is all of this happening near Christmas?  To discredit its power and to seal our doom by cutting us off from the only hope we have.

Satan mocks Christmas!  “Hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men”.    These words from the Christmas Carol “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” is  based on the 1863 poem “Christmas Bells” by American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  The song tells of the narrator’s despair, upon hearing Christmas bells that “hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men”.

Hate starts by hating God.   Hatred of God is essential for evil to prevail.   We have elected leaders who hate God.  We have exalted celebrities that hate God.  Cultural elites tell us that those who believe in God are mentally inferior.  We were ordered to leave God out of virtually everything.  Our children cannot even mention Him in school!

So what has our national crusade to abolish God done for us?  It takes courage to declare the truth. There is an unambiguous correlation between our misery and our lack of God.  To the degree that we have moved away from Him is the exact degree that we have moved away from peace, joy and goodwill.

King Hezekiah had that courage!  2 Chronicles 29: 6 “For our fathers have trespassed and done evil in the eyes of the Lord our God; they have forsaken Him, have turned their faces away from the dwelling place of the Lord, and turned their backs on Him. 7 They have also shut up the doors of the vestibule, put out the lamps, and have not burned incense or offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel. 8 Therefore the wrath of the Lord fell upon Judah and Jerusalem, and He has given them up to trouble, to desolation, and to jeering, as you see with your eyes. 9 For indeed, because of this our fathers have fallen by the sword; and our sons, our daughters, and our wives are in captivity.”

How can you miss the eerie comparison to America in those verses? WE ARE IN TROUBLE.  WE ARE DESOLATE.  WE ARE JEERED BY THE WORLD.  OUR SONS AND FATHERS ARE BEING KILLED.  OUR PEOPLE ARE TAKEN INTO CAPTIVITY TO DRUGS AND PERVERSION! OUR INHERITANCE IS BEING GIVEN TO STRANGERS.

Many ministers may feel that they are at a loss of words this Christmas. “I don’t know what to preach on in such a time of hatred, division and chaos.”   How is that possible Pastor?  How can you not know what to thunder from your pulpit this Christmas?

Stand before the people like King Hezekiah.  Offer dynamic hope!  Hezekiah said in verse 10, “Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel, that His fierce wrath may turn away from us.”  Lead your people into a covenant with God to save America!

If America repents of her sin and repudiates the God haters, God’s wrath will turn away from us.  Do not be shy or vague and do not fear that man will reject you.  You are not on this earth at this time to compromise or draw back.

Let every believer who reads this repent before God and seek His mercy.  Truly judgment must begin at the house of God.  I know that a shocking turn toward the better awaits us if we sincerely fall before God in unrestrained humility and confess our great sin to Him.

The days of murder in Bethlehem gave way to the voice of John the Baptist crying in the wilderness.  This voice was then overshadowed by the golden words of Jesus of Nazareth who had the Holy Ghost without measure.  He destroyed the works of Satan on all levels from poverty to disease to hatred.

To return to that work and to see that work repeated in our day must be the unrestrained passion of every minister and the hope of every believer. Our day of race baiters, God haters and Bible traitors can melt before national revival if God’s generals and soldiers return to their first love.

Will Satan win against the message of Peace on Earth and Goodwill toward men?  The Christmas carol ended with these words:

“Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: “God is not dead, nor doth he sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth, good will to men.”

Joe Scarborough: “Avalanche Of Hate Speech” Against Cops Inspired Killer

joe copy

JOE SCARBOROUGH, MORNING JOE: Sadly, these assassinations were too predictable. We’ve seen many protesting the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. We’ve heard them chanting black lives matter. Of course they do. This weekend, we heard supporters of the NYPD responding to these assassinations with the hashtag #copslivesmatter. And they of course do to all of us.

The tragic consequences of the past few months should remind everyone on both sides that in the end, words matter the most. I say that because the cop killer’s hatred was fueled by an avalanche of hate speech that was directed at law enforcement officers in general over the past four months.

To listen to protesters, editors and left wing talking heads go on and on since the shooting of Michael Brown, you would be led to believe that white police officers were randomly driving through black neighborhoods searching for young black males to shoot down. And despite my own views that America’s criminal justice system is too unfair to young black males, and I have said it repeatedly for decades, I was blasted on social media as a racist for calling out the St. Louis Rams players. And United States Congressmen for recklessly promoting the phrase “hands up, don’t shoot.”

I was worried in real time for good reason that using those inflammatory words told anybody listening to them that Michael Brown was gunned down by a white cop while his hands were raised in surrender. I was angered at the inflammatory phrase and warned that using a phrase that the grand jury itself reported was never used, slander SL cops and would make the situation worse for cops across America, and it did. Why? Because words matter. Words matter. I was worried after the tragic shooting, it was such a tragic shooting in Cleveland…

cops who were shot

That the New York Times putting up a caption that read “police kill child with toy” again painted police officers as beasts. And it also conveniently ignored 911 calls that those cops got from concerned residents saying a suspect was waving a gun around, pointing it at park visitors, and, quote, scaring the hell out of them.

Words matter. The looting and the rioting in Ferguson were so bad that man of us, many of us congratulated New York protesters for remaining mostly peaceful while overlooking ugly words. Ugly elements of those marches, those marches in New York, show just how much hatred against police officers has been stirred up over the past four months of constant anti-police propaganda online and newspapers and, yes, on cable news.

Ann Compton on Obama: He Launches ‘Profanity-Laced’ Tirades Against Press

The journalist, who retired in August after a 40-year career, revealed to C-SPAN’s Brian Lamb: “I have seen in the last year Barack Obama really angry twice. Both were off-the-record times. One, profanity-laced where he thought the press was making too much of scandals that he did not think were scandals.” [MP3 audio here.]

She explained, “And I don’t find him apologetic. But I find him willing to stand up to the press and look them in the eye, even though it was off the record and just give us hell.”

After Lamb wondered if the President had a point, she chided, “We cover what we are allowed to cover. And when policy decisions and presidents are inaccessible and don’t take questions from the press on a regular basis, I think they reap what they sow.”

Despite Obama’s apparent rage against the press, he hasn’t had much to complain about. The Media Research Center documented how journalists covered-up his failures and scandals.

Earlier in the hour-long C-SPAN interview, which aired on Sunday night, but was recorded in October, Compton slammed the “opaque” administration:

ANN COMPTON: Before I walked out the door on September 10, I was a strong voice for complaining that this particular administration has been more opaque than any I have covered about what the President does in the Oval Office everyday. He is far less accessible on photo-ops with meetings. Even some meetings on the record, meeting in the Roosevelt room with financial leaders from, from Wall Street or on issues with environmental groups, or with issues with environmental groups, with public opinion leaders, I think most presidents have been far more forthcoming than the second Obama term, in terms of what the President is doing every day and we almost never get photo-ops.

She added that it’s fine for the White House to take its own photographs, but “those same elements should not be blocked from the White House press corps.”

Interestingly, on Compton’s last day in August, the President called on her for a final question. She chose to ask about the police shooting in Ferguson, not the concerns she expressed to C-SPAN.

(H/T to Heritage’s Mike Gonzalez for first noticing Compton’s comments and tweeting about them.)

A partial transcript of the October 30 segment is below:

ANN COMPTON: Before I walked out the door on September 10, I was a strong voice for complaining that this particular administration has been more opaque than any I have covered about what the President does in the Oval Office everyday. I think I went through a time of three or four months where I was never in the Oval Office once on my pool day. Part of this may be that the President feels a little bit on the ropes. His job approval rating is down to 40 percent consistently for the last couple of years since his reelection. He also has his own tools. He is the first president with his own journalistic tools. They’ve all had photographers. He has his own videographers. He has a newscast on Friday mornings on WhiteHouse.gov. It is anchored by his former deputy, now press secretary, Josh Earnest. I think it is fine if the President of the United States wants to present his own version of what he did all week. Most of it is behind the scenes shots of him with Supreme Court justices and leaders coming in from Wall Street. It is fine that he puts it on the internet and that everybody can see it. Those same elements should not be blocked from the White House press corps.

[Recounting her experiences dealing with presidents.]

COMPTON: Every president is a human being as well as a president. And I’m often asked for favorite moments. Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait. George Herbert Walker Bush goes to Camp David and convenes his war cabinet, comes back tot he White House. He stops in front of my camera and says, the Arab world is united against Saddam Hussein. I blurt out, “Mr. President, Arab leaders like King Hussein have flown to Baghdad and embraced him. President Bush barked at me and said, “I can read. What’s your question?” The next day, before  before he sends American troops to the war, he writes me a letter, saying, he was not pleased with his answers to me. below his signature, GB, is initials, he drew a happy face wearing a frown. Imagine the president of the United States taking a moment in history like that to apologize to the press.

LAMB: So, off of that experience, how many other presidents were that aware of what they said to you and how many just did not pay attention at all and you had no personal reaction from them?

COMPTON: I think most presidents realize – had a personal connection. I don’t think they ever — we were ever in a confrontation-type moment where they felt the need to apologize. I have seen in the last year Barack Obama really angry twice. Both were off-the-record times. One, profanity-laced where he thought the press was making too much of scandals that he did not think were scandals. Another where he took us to task for not understanding the limits he has with foreign policy and the way he’s dealing with the Middle East and Iraq, and Afghanistan. And I don’t find him apologetic. But I find him willing to stand up to the press and look them in the eye, even though it was off the record and just give us hell.

LAMB: Does he have a point?

COMPTON: From his point of view, he may. But we cover what we are allowed to cover. And when policy decisions and presidents are inaccessible and don’t take questions from the press on a regular basis, I think they get — they reap what they sow.
