GOD FALLS ON FRESNO

MARIO MURILLO REPORTS: It is Sunday, August 11th at 5:30 P.M.  The church is surrounded in all directions by parked cars. As the sun began to set, the oppressive heat broke.  It is not just soothing, it feels like a sign. It feels like God has remembered Fresno. It feels like God is on the verge of breaking another kind of oppression.

Look at the faces. You will see a determination. You will see faith. There is great expectation! The sick have come to be healed. It is an emotional scene watching people tenderly assist family, friends and loved ones into the rapidly filling seats. Eyes gleam with their unspoken confession, “TONIGHT IS MY NIGHT!”

It’s now 5:50. The building is packed. Workers had to race to a nearby church to borrow extra chairs. We add almost 200 chairs, it’s still not enough. People are forced to stand against the walls. Now it’s a turn-away crowd. We start the meeting immediately.

Pastor A. J. Nunes stands up, and things bust open as he prays a thunderous prayer. Then the worship team begins their job of lifting us into the glories.  Chris Poe and his team from the Bridge of Marysville light up the crowd. The people are lost in worship. They sing with an intensity that is at once awe-inspiring and convicting.

Our original plan was for this night to be a taste of what they would experience in the tent, and to rally them to work with us to fill the tent.  God had other things in mind! This crowd—this power—this towering glory and presence of God far exceeds anything we could have planned.

This was not a ‘good meeting.’  What was happening was not limited to this one building. This was God falling on Fresno!

With each note that they sang, their faith grew. With each song, their passion for more of Jesus intensified.

Meanwhile, I am waiting on God to know when I should start preaching. I am torn. The people are getting power, life, and refreshing from the Lord. Years and years of prayers are being answered. Pastors are being drenched, and faith is reaching a fever pitch. How can I interrupt this?

The worship is doing exactly what Jesus said it would do. “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.”  (John 12: 32). Those that came needing healing for their soul, watched their excuses die. They felt it, as the chains of addiction were being shattered. Their reluctance and resistance against the touch of God had vanished.

Finally, seeing their hunger and need for Christ, I knew it was time to preach. My message was entitled, “If you have to ask.”  In a nutshell, I said that California was not stolen by the devil, rather—the Church had given California away.

I said, “If you are a pastor and you have to ask why we must oppose the leftist agenda—if you are a believer and you have to ask God if you should seek revival—if you believe you have to ask before you speak out and challenge the devil’s hold on this State…then you are messed up.”

Now the miracles began to happen. I will never forget the blanket of power that came over me. It was no longer I who was ministering. It was as if I had ceased to exist or to have an opinion in this matter. Words were coming forth from me with power. People in the crowd were ordered to stand and then details only God knew were spoken to them, igniting faith for their healing. The Holy Spirit was pouring forth such a mighty river of life, truth and healing, that I was finding it difficult to keep up with Him.

After several were healed, I turned around and felt a demonic resistance behind me. I was standing before a woman and her husband. I knew she was being healed, but from what, at first, I could not determine. I was foggy from the evil that was opposing me. Then I knew! Witchcraft had dared to be here tonight to challenge the move of God. I warned the individual they had no power in this place. The resistance was obliterated and instantly I knew that the woman before me was battling cancer.  I knew there were multiple tumors…but mostly, I knew she was being healed. GLORY TO GOD!

I spun around and charged over to a young man far to my right. He was told to stand. He was told that his liver was diseased and Hepatitis C was ravaging his body. He thrust his arms in the air and gave a mighty roar that told everyone this was true. Then the power of God surged through his body.

I stormed across the church again, and the Lord brought me to a screeching halt next to a little lady. “You are a rascal,” I said to her. She smiled in agreement, and the crowd laughed. I could see the walker and the agony in her legs. I told her, “Being a rascal is going to help you tonight. I want you to wait and not get anyone’s permission. When the power of Jesus hits you, get up and walk, no matter what anyone else thinks.”

Miracle upon miracle came graciously from the throne of God.  It was staggering to see how long healing virtue flowed onto the people. Then I made the call for new life. All ages, races, and backgrounds filled the front.

I looked down and saw the lady I had called a rascal, standing there praying the sinner’s prayer. She was thrilled to be healed and out of pain, but infinitely more thrilled to receive Jesus.

What more could we have asked?

Let me add just one more thing. We instructed all who were at the altar to prepare to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. A young man about 16 years old burst out in tongues—his heavenly language filling the whole building. Then, one after another, others joined him in receiving the Holy Spirit.

I solemnly warn you. This is only the beginning of the Nights of Glory that will soon be coming to Dinuba, Hanford, and Fresno.

Tomorrow I will be making the biggest announcement I have made in 20 years! So stand by!

Your Power

Mass murder, debauchery, and the stress of nations—these things press on us daily.  We can feel the crushing weight of inadequacy. We ask:  Can we stay sane?  Is the moral situation so far gone that we must withdraw into our ‘faith cocoons’ and just endure, hoping we outlast the madness?

Ephesians 6:10 says, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.’  But, how do we apply all that power and might to this flood of evil and stress that is bombarding us every day?

Not only can we apply it, we are expressly called—and uniquely equipped—to express the power of God.  The legacy of our faith demands it. The nature of the Holy Spirit—and the Word of God demand it.  There is no holding-pattern for us.  God only leads forward.

The religions of the world teach escape.  They deem the world to be too dangerous for their devotees.  Whether it is a Buddhist Monastery or a Muslim Caliphate, the message is clear: They can’t coexist with secular culture.  They require physical separation, cleansing rituals, strict diets, or the total subjugation of infidels.

With just a few simple words, Jesus revealed the vast superiority of our victory compared to all the religions of the world.   He prayed to the Father, “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” (John 17:15)

Supernatural peace can quell the deep frustration from hearing the insane ideas and words of politicians.

When Jesus prayed that prayer, He was praying for us, His flock, to remain in the culture. We are to be warriors. We are to be salt and light. These are not just fighting words—they are an in-your-face smack down of evil.

While cultural contact withers the faith of false religions, it enhances the Christian—it sharpens their faith, brightens their light, and deepens their authority.

You must understand why you are here.  You must see the astounding picture of the army you belong to.  Our very presence on earth is God’s way of saying, victory is available.  He keeps us here because we can win!

Think of soldiers in an army who are only aware of the battle they are fighting in their own little sector. They are being hard-pressed, and things are going against them. If, for one moment, they think it is just their fight, they will soon be defeated. But when they remember they are only a part of a great and mighty army, and that the Captain, their Leader, the God of the Armies of Heaven is directing it, immediately the situation is transformed. In other words, we have got to realize God is involved in this battle with us. We are only here because of God.

The 3 steps I am about to declare will bring victory over the present evil and stress.  They hit me, when I saw two groups of people. They were hundreds of years apart and in totally different circumstances, but they took these identical 3 steps to victory.

One was a prophecy by Daniel around 600 B.C. The other, occurred in 31 AD.

In his prophecy, Daniel described how the Maccabean revolt would triumph in 167 BC.  The second instance happened when the people in the land of Gennesaret welcomed Jesus.  The former liberated Israel—the latter wiped out sickness and disease.  Again, they both took the same 3 steps.  Here are the scriptures:

Daniel 11:32 “Those who do wickedly against the covenant, he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.”

Mark 6:53-56: “When they had crossed over (the Sea of Galilee), they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.”

Here are the 3 key words in both these victories: KNOW, STRONG, CARRY.  The first group knew God. They were strong. And they carried out exploits.  The second group did those same 3 things.  They recognized (knew Jesus).  They ran (showed strength).  They carried others who received miracles (exploits).

Take these 3 steps to defeat today’s stress and evil:

1. Obey God’s pull. He is pulling you to know Him in deep intimacy: Psalm 27:8 says “When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”  What is your reaction to God’s call? He wants to do a secret work in you.  Are you saying, “Yes”?

I believe Jesus is using this message from me to draw you into special closeness with Him.  If you say, “Yes,” special things will begin to happen.  You will instantly conquer fear and worry.  Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. “

Your faith for mighty things will multiply.  Jesus said,” If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7)

God not only knew that the insanity of today was coming—He took steps to prepare a special relationship that would produce special powers for His children.  We can blame no one but ourselves if we neglect this astonishing invitation.

2. Become strong. What did Isaiah say would happen to those who heeded the call to wait on God? “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)

Your new-found and deep connection to God the Father will create strength.  Note once again, the amazing parallel between the phrases, “they shall run and not be weary,” and “they recognized Him and ran.”

‘Touchy-feely’ faith is out.  This is the era of strong Christians.  Tomorrow belongs to Christians who are stronger than any headline—stronger than threats—stronger than anything unfolding on the earth.

3. Accept your mission: You have a mission, you have an ordained exploit. It is ironic that the true cure for today’s fear and stress is: to think big and take on massive vision.  Fresh vision always chases away depression.

An exploit that summons up all your talent and every drop of your courage and combines it with His limitless resources, is comfort food for the Spirit-empowered believer.

The bottom line:  We are subjective creatures. We live in this unhealthy psychological generation that starts with man and ends with man. Most of our troubles are due to that. We are full of self-pity. We are always looking inward and feeling sorry for ourselves. We are always looking for something to help us. Get rid of those things! Forget about yourself for a moment, and realize that the battle belongs to the Lord!

You can know Him. You can become strong.  And you will accomplish amazing things in Him!

Building something great

I have been pondering these questions:

Can we overcome the evil that is rampant in our times and do something big for God?

Can visionaries still come to the forefront and seize the day?

Can true prophets arise, and speak the heart of God to a dying world?

If you’re looking for a cheap pep talk—a soothing shortcut—or the flattering words of the God-is-our- Daddy Movement—if you think serving God is just a tongues-talking Candy Land game, then save us both time, and ease on back into your cocoon.

But if you look at the present system of church and feel empty—if there is an inner fire that tells you “THIS IS NOT IT!  THERE HAS TO BE MORE!” —you have come to the right place.

Our journey begins with a sad joke.  A mechanically challenged young man who wants to cut some firewood goes into a hardware store.  He asks the store clerk for advice.  After being shown the chain saws, the clerk says, “With a chain saw you can cut entire cords of wood in no time.”  Sold.

The young man returns three days later angry and frustrated. “You told me I could cut cords of wood.  All I got was a few lousy sticks, and this thing is way too heavy to handle.”  Baffled, the clerk grabs the saw, yanks the pullcord and the saw roars to life.  The young man asks, “What’s that noise?”

In the greatest moral war America has ever faced, the church is trying to saw wood with a giant unstarted chainsaw.   To fight that war, our Christian Colleges insist on graduating tepid troops of singing psychologists and grinning marketers.

Secret Number One:  Separate yourself.   There is a promise in the Bible that is timeless, omnipotent, and unstoppable.  It is a promise that transcends the mad railings of evil men, dark times, and limited resources.  It is a promise that will prevail in any culture, and at any time. Read the promise carefully:

2 Timothy 2:20 “But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses (separates) himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work. 22 Now, flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”

Those words were not written to some surfer in the 1960’s living in a bubble, but to a young leader embarking on ministry in the midst of the Roman Empire, facing both lash and lions.

Separate yourself from the drunken compromised preachers of today.  Separate yourself from shallow faith.  Separate yourself from those who need “a daily word from the Lord”—turning prophecy into an ecclesiastical horoscope.  Separate yourself from those who want to “activate gifts” without pressing in to know the heart of God.  If you do these things, a great work will have already begun.

Secret Number Two: Learn practical dependency on the Holy Spirit.  Satan’s best work is not done by atheists, but by misguided Christians.  The devil prizes above all else his ability to get ministers to take matters into their own hands—to build by their own wits—and build the perfect disguise.  The current whited sepulchers are vast empires bearing Christian labels.  These are machines God never built.  They are trophies of hell meant to distract the Body of Christ, and waste time and money.

John 16:13: “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore, I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”

What do you see in those verses?  They should both bless and horrify you.  All the authority to build, direct, provide, strengthen and guide the church was vested in the Holy Spirit.  We have offended a precious friend!  We have driven away the very Person we needed most!

The American church thrashes about like a child in a kiddy pool, never guessing what she is doing wrong.  She hired marketers when she could have simply asked the Holy Spirit. She pointed to false success to justify her existence.  We don’t need a superman. We need supernatural men and women filled with the Holy Spirit.

You must be baptized in the Spirit and then learn to be led of the Spirit.

Secret Number Three: Trust the process. God invented planning. Therefore, the Holy Spirit will give you a plan. The trick is, you can’t take shortcuts. You won’t always see the logic.  And you may grow weary and even come to doubt the sanity of your course.

You won’t be allowed to do things that others get away with.  You will be driven to prayer and into the Word of God over every step you take. You are taking the road least traveled.

Do what God tells you to do, and never stop doing it.  Again: Trust the process.  No matter how your guidance seems to go against the grain, obey His voice!  When you have no money but God says invest it in a vision—do it!  When close associates turn on you—still do it!  Trust the process.  When you face a withering storm of criticism because of your choice, keep going forward.

Follow these three secrets. Then, look around.  You will see people doing mighty works of God in the Earth.  You will see the glaring difference between those who are fueled by the Holy Spirit and those who are not.

But, you ask, “Will these secrets work in this day and age?”  Yes! They always have and they always will!

DIVINE FRUSTRATION

In times of acute spiritual warfare, God often allows those He has chosen for a special work to feel a kind of frustration. Maybe you can see that something radical needs to happen. Maybe you see things others don’t.  You survey the church scene and see that what Satan has sold so many believers is merely fool’s gold.  You’re convinced that this feeble generation is not taking up weapons that are ‘mighty to the tearing down of strongholds.’ Instead, they pursue money, cheap grace, and safe spaces.

You can see how teaching that is shallow and flattering is the perfect greenhouse for dulling reality. It kills urgency.  Taking a stand has become a distant fantasy to many.  But, what about you?

You see how the faith of so many has grown flabby.  You can’t bear to see how many Christians don’t even know what ‘the weapons of our warfare’ are.  They don’t know our authority.  They have no marching orders.  They don’t know what to say to this generation.  Most of all, you feel a deep urgency, but you are shocked that the people of God are oblivious as to what is coming next in the plan of God.  They are clueless about the threats to our nation and our freedom.

Peter recognized when government crossed the line.  Acts 4:19 “But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to Him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.””

Peter also understood what to do when government tries to ban the Gospel, (the high priest replied,) 28 “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this Name? And behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.”” (Acts 5: 28-29)

Those who hate America are coming after our freedom.  They will force feed our children the Antichrist agenda. That is, unless we wake up to our purpose and our destiny.

Although I am calling you out for special power in this hour, we must be alert, not alarmed.  Don’t let the threatening clouds grip you with fear. Let them light a fire in your soul!

You see and feel all of this for a reason: God is frustrating you divinely.  It is one of His greatest gifts. Why? Because it delivers you from the mediocre by implanting in you an insatiable restlessnessa restlessness than can only be quelled through prayer and obedience. Is God selecting you to give you weapon-grade faith and boldness?

You simply can’t stay where you are.  Something must break!  My advice to you is…do these things:

1.Be filled or refilled with the Holy Spirit.  You must have fire, or you must have fresh fire. The courage to face the onslaught of hatred that will be thrown at you can never be met by human power.  To say what you need to say and to obey when you need to obey, cannot come from human motivation.  You must have the same Spirit that has fueled world-changing saints throughout history. God never meant for anyone to preach or to lead without the power that the infilling of the Holy Spirit brings. Pray in the Spirit. Pray in tongues. Be bathed in prayer.

2. Make room for signs and wonders. Our culture will not be reached by mere words.  They must see proof of the power of God.  God means for you to provide that proof.

Paul wrote in 1 Cor. 2:4 “…my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

The authority you need won’t come cheaply or instantly.  (Read my blog on the price of God’s miracle working power https://wp.me/p1vrzp-53e)

3. Get ready to do something for God that will boggle your mind. God is selecting people and working in them to impart unmatched power for attacking evil.  Habakkuk 1:5 “Look among the nations and watch—be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.”

He is creating people who can turn the tide of wickedness.  He doesn’t care about your age or your education.  He searches for someone who is travailing over the evil and will die unless God fills them with power and purpose.  Someone who wants to be in the fight and who wants to be in the thick of it.  Isaiah 6:8 says, “Also, I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

4. Prepare to pray in a way you have never imagined. God is pulling you out of the damaged religious crowd into special intimacy with Himself.  You are not going to pray like you have in the past.  E. M. Bounds wrote, “To say prayers in a decent, delicate way, is not heavy work. But to pray really, to pray till hell feels the ponderous stroke, to pray till the iron gates of difficulty are opened, till the mountains of obstacles are removed, till the mists are exhaled and the clouds are lifted, and the sunshine of a cloudless day brightens—this is hard work, but it is God’s work, and man’s best labor.”

What do all of these things I am asking you to do have in common?  Every one of them involves a leap out of dead religion.  They are a courageous declaration of war on the godless ideologies that are destroying our nation.  They are an irrevocable decision to be in the middle of God’s greatest acts in history!

Time to leave

It is clear that, as the madness spreads and the church just wrings its hands, it is time for the eagles to leave the turkey-yard.  You know who you are, you who are an eagle.  There’s a fire inside you that you can’t put out.  You are ruined for ‘Church-As-Usual-Incorporated.’

For too long you’ve been told to be a good little birdie.  “Don’t ruffle any feathers!” But you just can’t stomach the stale kernels they toss to you.  You must have fresh meat.  All around you, the turkeys peck at the ground.  But all you can see are the clouds and the sky, where you know you belong.

You long to be home, where the glory is.  Your place is alongside the heroes of faith that changed the course of nations.  “Survival-mode” teaching sickens you.  The idea that tepid happiness is the goal enrages you.

You made the mistake of looking at old youtube.com videos.  You saw Oral Roberts.  You saw Kathryn Kuhlman.  You saw Smith Wigglesworth.  You jumped up and screamed, “But, where are the miracles today!?”

(check out my blog, The Price of God’s Miracle Working Power:  https://wp.me/p1vrzp-53e   )

You made the mistake of listening to old preaching tapes, where you heard men and women preaching holy fire!  They didn’t do monologues. They didn’t do stand-up comedy. They pulled the pin out of Bible verses, and flung them like a grenade to explode into the souls of their audience.  You heard people sobbing at the altars.  You heard them linger until something real and lasting transformed them.

Then something really painful happened to you…you looked at your generation. You saw the national cancer of wickedness.  You saw the insane brainwashing.  You saw the limp-wristed tactics of the church.

You became like David as he stared at the paralyzed army of Israel, cowering before a defiant Goliath.

You cried, “WHY DOESN’T SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING?”

So, now that you realize that the ‘SOMEBODY’ IS YOU, it is too late for you. The die is cast.  You’ve gone too far to turn back.  You now know too much.  You feel like you should leave before you hurt someone…

You remember the verse, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles.” (Isaiah 40:31).

Prayer is your escape from the prison yard of compromise and mediocrity. We’re not talking about the ‘gobble-gobble prayers’ you heard in the yard—we’re talking about falling before God and waiting upon Him until you come forth as pure gold.

What are we talking about?  We are talking about prayer that heaven can’t resist, and hell can’t stand. The kind of prayer that breaks the grip of ancient demonic strongholds.  Prayer that causes students begin to weep on campus, even though they do not know why.  Prayer that fills people with the Holy Spirit. Prayer that removes fear, and installs unshakable courage to tell a generation the genuine Good News: the mighty Gospel—which is the unapologetic, undeniable, unstoppable power of God!

Eagles dare while turkeys stare!

Eagles are born out of prayer. They spring forth from the hand of God, fully convinced of their destiny and their goal.  Let mistaken millennials protest against the AR-15.  You take hold of John 17:15, “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one.”  That is your battle cry!  You don’t want out.  You know the Lord Jesus will keep you from the evil one! You are ready to soar into any nest of evil and destroy the works of the devil.

Where eagles gather, power is present.  Where eagles gather, the deep purposes of Almighty God are revealed.  Where eagles gather, there’s no self-pity, no encounter sessions, and no hiding in your ‘safe-space.’  When turkeys are transformed into eagles, they are equipped, they are ignited, and they are fitted for war.

Eagles must have a challenge.  They yearn for a cause that will summon up all of their strength, talent, and time.  They want something they can easily imagine doing for the rest of their lives.

It’s time for you to fly out of the turkey yard, and never look back!

THEY WILL

THEY WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING

David Wilkerson predicted this emerging force: “God is revealing to all praying people that a glorious new work of the Spirit is about to break forth. God is going to shake everything that can be shaken. He will tear down the old political, backslidden, ecclesiastical system. He will disown the formal, super-church structure. He will chase out of His presence all those who are engaging in self-promoting ministries.”

These praying people he mentions will be the catalyst to these forceful changes.  They are frustrated, hungry, and their numbers are growing fast.  They are coalescing around certain truths: fasting, repentance, and holy surrender to Christ.

This force is the most underrated undercurrent in the church.  Even though it is largely overlooked, it has the firepower to change the church just as much as a youth awakening.  And look out when these two forces collide!

Many of these people were chased out of churches that were once fiery and Spirit-filled, but then went to a new format to attract outsiders.  A growing number of Christians feel their church is promoting programs that don’t impact them. Even programs that bring in large numbers don’t matter to them.  They believe only a move of God can save America now.

They believe we have no time to play games.  They are frustrated that their church is catering to the lukewarm members.  Most of all, they feel that they are being punished for wanting a move of God.

I want to direct my words to those leaders who are guilty of correcting members who yearn for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  You’ve got it totally backwards.  Those who are hungry for a move of God are the best thing that ever happened to your church.

If you have wounded the heart of even a single saint, it was a spectacular mistake.  They, and not the lukewarm, should be setting the tone for your church.

Somewhere, we got the idea—I believe it came from the pit of hell—that exuberant worship, preaching with the anointing and with conviction, fiery prayer meetings, and deliberate soul winning are the “old ways.”

For millions of disenfranchised Christians, these things are not ‘old ways’, but timeless ways. And, their hunger for them is intensifying even as the church grows colder.  Something will have to give!

Change has to come!

Again, David Wilkerson said, “I see it all over the nation today—disillusioned Christians searching for reality. The people in the pew are beginning to fast and pray. They are the ones who now weep between the porch and the altar. And, they are crying out for more depth and more of eternal values from the pulpit. If the minister of their church goes on in some egocentric way, pursuing expensive dreams, they will go out looking for a place where their deepest spiritual needs will be met.”

However, many mega-church pastors didn’t leave it there, they went even further.  They began to punish members who pursued holiness.  They call it a ‘religious spirit.’  These dear saints wonder, “Why would anyone punish a heart for wanting purity?  How can vessels chosen to uplift the righteous and equip the saints, instead, create a system that rewards carnality and shames holiness?”

Let’s be honest.   It’s not as if the modern church is exhausting itself on devotion and sacrifice.  But you’d sure think so by the way some ministers keep telling us to relax, and quit trying so hard, because, ‘Daddy is so pleased with us.’

Even when a congregation is a listless, flabby, biblically illiterate club of moody consumers, preachers will heap on them yet one more message of pampered entitlement.  It’s kind of like handing a diabetic a case of Snickers bars.

It has gotten so bad that Sundays have become a celebration of how much God lets you get away with.

These believers, who know there is more, are equally disappointed in the other extreme. Perhaps in reaction to the deadness, formality, and carnality, some have created churches that are highly emotional and have run completely off the map of scripture.

Satan seduced some into separating the Holy Spirit and the Bible—pitting them against each other.  The Bible not only predicted this deception—it exposed the motive behind it.

2 Timothy 4:3 “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers…”  What they can’t endure is the Bible.  They drop the God-card to fulfill their lusts, and then blame the Holy Spirit!

It began in small doses.  One preacher said, “Why do we trust a book? Did they have more of the Spirit than we have?”  Another preacher said, “We’re not supposed to worship a book.”

They will tell you they are trusting in the voice of the Spirit more than The Book.  What they are really hearing is their own voice…or worse.  They don’t deny the inerrancy of scripture: they simply claim direct revelation from God that is equal to the Bible.

If you have all Spirit, you blow up. If you have all Truth, you dry up. You need both!

Studying the Bible has become passé.  Many seek constant prophetic words, and trust these words without comparing them against scripture.

The Holy Spirit becomes “on demand.”  You’ve all seen internet ads where “prophets” will give you a daily word from the Lord.  Some even charge money to give you a prophetic word.

People blame all kinds of things on “leadings of the Holy Spirit.” “The Spirit told me I can leave my husband and children because He wants me to be happy.”  Scantily clad women in church claim, “You may not like the way I dress, but the Holy Spirit does.”  One preacher even compared the Spirit to smoking marijuana, and said, “I am toking the Ghost.”

The book of Daniel seems to divide those who live in the last days into two categories: Those who are corrupted by flattery and those who know their God.  The entire verse reads: “those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.” -Daniel 11:32

The people who know their God are repulsed by both extremes of compromise and emotionalism. They want exuberant worship, even intense worship directed at Christ. They don’t want an emotional binge that feels New Age, and that seems to be trying to reach an altered state.  They want to reach lost souls, but they want no part of an open-ended attraction program that never seems to lead souls into discipleship.  John Wimber called them ‘The Radical Middle.’

As I said before, their numbers are growing every day.  They are not rebellious, they are hungry. They are reaching out to God with great passion.  They are preachers who suddenly realize they have built a monstrosity for God, but they have neither worked with God, nor do they have a relationship with Him.

They are young people who came to church, only to find they didn’t fit any model. After years of increasing emptiness, one day they just collapsed before the Lord and begged for Biblical reality.

Others are finished with egocentric pastors with grandiose, expensive dreams, and carnal visions.  These members of the Radical Middle recognize that their pastors have been distracted—even derailed from their first love.   Those who are interested in becoming true disciples are abandoning ‘attraction- churches’—something revolutionary is happening inside them.

Deep, deep in my soul where the real knowing happens—I know God is doing something new.  God is finished with hirelings.  He is drawing a remnant out of corruption and into a special, supernatural nearness to Him.  They will empty themselves of everything. Every ambition will be burned out—except for one—to love and please the Lord Jesus Christ. They will change everything they are doing now, and begin to walk in the power of and for the glory of God Almighty!

And they will change everything!

IS THERE A WORD?

Facebook oozes with the voices of those claiming to be “prophets” or “mouthpieces for God.”   The internet teems with self-appointed prophets who scream to be heard, bombarding us with “prophetic words.”  Almost all of these “prophecies” can be categorized into one of two headlines:

AMERICA IS PAST HOPE AND WILL BE DESTROYED!

AMERICA IS FAVORED AND WILL NEVER BE DESTROYED!

So, are either of these the word of the Lord for this hour?  This is what I hear the Lord saying.

Hear the word of the Lord!

To autonomously pronounce judgment, is to play God.  Doomsday “prophets” are calling off the attack against evil, when God is not.  They are sounding a false retreat.  They are making evangelism futile.  They are helping put souls in hell by discouraging soul-winners.

I would say this to those “prophets”: Don’t lie to yourself.  Don’t make up “prophecies” of judgment just because you are mad at the church.  Face it!  Your righteous indignation may be nothing more than a personal grudge you hold because your ministry was rejected by the church.

However, the great danger is not an abundance of prophets of doom.  It is the false prophets of cheap grace and entitlement, who are the most dangerous.

In a wonderful book entitled The American Miracle written by Michael Medved, we read about astounding and undeniable instances of God stepping in when America seemed beyond hope.  However, these examples are not proof that judgment won’t come.  To assume this is sheer madness.

I want to use George Washington as an example of something that desperately needs to be said to the American church.  Washington died at the age of 67 because of medical malpractice.  Back then, doctors believed in bleeding as a way to remove the “bad blood” from sick patients.  Washington was already weak from his illness, and by draining five pints of blood from him, the doctors made him too weak to fight the infection, and it finally killed him.  Today we know it was the worst thing they could have done.

Listen church!  Cheap grace is bleeding an already weakened church.   It helps set us up for national destruction.   For Satan, this is the perfect theology.   Instead of a life-giving conviction and a robust will to proclaim the Gospel, make disciples of all the nations, and fight against those who would destroy America—this perversion induces drowsiness and apathy.

Because they have adopted this doctrine of devils, many American pastors are closet alcoholics and addicted to porn.  And can you expect a poisoned vessel to preach a pure message on Sunday morning?

Past miracles don’t guarantee future mercy.  They should awaken urgency, an overpowering gratitude, humility, and profound soul-searching.  Throwing ourselves off the cliff of morality to prove the power of Grace, both tempts God, and provokes wrath.

God is trying to show us the times we are living in and what to do about it.

In 1 Chronicles 12:32, we read “of the sons of Issachar who understood the times, to know what Israel ought to do.”  The entire chapter lists the military talent of each tribe of Israel.  This gift: “to know what Israel ought to do,” was Issachar’s weapon.

These “prophets” who say America will be destroyed, or who say America cannot be destroyed, are dead wrong.  We are neither pardoned nor condemned.  Our fate has not yet been decided.

We are living in a moment of mercy: HOW SOON WE FORGET!  We were spared the horror of a Hillary presidency which would have been the finishing touch on Obama’s death spiral for America: a permanently enslaving national debt, a Supreme Court that would have chained us to anti-God laws, freedom-killing environmentalism, and open borders. All of these would have ushered in permanent control by the Democrat-Socialist Party, crime, and terrorism.

Trump’s election was a miracle that was intended by God to ignite the church.  But, his time in Washington will be short and ineffective, and in the end, we will be worse off than ever−if the church fails to obey God.

Trump has had missteps as president, but this does not by any means disqualify him from being the right choice.  We dare not abandon him so soon!  He needs our prayers.  He needs our support. As I wrote before, at least with Trump, we have a firewall to let us preach the Gospel and hold on for another miracle.

Here are the precise verses for this hour:

“And now for a little while grace has been shown from the Lord our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a measure of revival in our bondage.  For we were slaves. Yet our God did not forsake us in our bondage; but He extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to revive us, to repair the house of our God, to rebuild its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.” Ezra 9:8-9

If, after all the mercy God showed us in the miraculous election of 2016, we fail to repent, fail to rise, and to take our rightful place in America’s future, then, yes, we can indeed be destroyed.

Listen again to Ezra:

“And after all that has come upon us for our evil deeds and for our great guilt, since You our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this, should we again break Your commandments, and join in marriage with the people committing these abominations? Would You not be angry with us until You had consumed us, so that there would be no remnant or survivor?” Ezra 9:13-14

Wrath comes when you do not properly respond to mercy:

“But Hezekiah made no return for the benefit he received, for his heart was proud; therefore, wrath came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.” 2 Chronicles 32:25  (NASB)

Look again at Ezra’s words: “but He extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to revive us, to repair the house of our God, to rebuild its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and Jerusalem.”

Trump is a temporary reprieve.  Now is the time when we must do our part.  We must act on the mercy we have been shown.  God has extended mercy so that we would do three things:

Revive, Repair and Rebuild.

Revive: God commands us to seek a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  We dare not have church without it!  We dare not utter another word in the pulpit that denies it!  The word of the Lord for this hour is: Cry out to God with a heart of gratitude for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit!

Here is the key promise if we do: 6 “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you.” 1 Samuel 10:6-7

Repair:  Both the pulpit and our moral compasses are broken.  They must be repaired!  Our wiring, our plumbing, and our foundations are damaged.  Abortion and marriage are issues we lost because our leadership was broken.  We abandoned the Bible and did not arm ourselves or our congregations with convictions.

America needs Lions of God who will roar from a righteous heart.  Away with secret sin and lukewarm grace!  Prayer will bring about the needed repair.  The voice that shakes hell and frees men and women from bondage is forged only in fervent prayer.  Satan does not respect your stage presence, your education, or your worldly tactics.  He recognizes a prayerless poser.  He only retreats before men and women who have been to Gethsemane.

Rebuild: We must come home to the Glorious Gospel.  We must dismantle all the silly things we have tried to say to this generation.  Forget about “rebranding”!  We need to rebuild our sermons from the ground up.  Let them be replete with Bible Verses.  Let them speak of the power of our mighty God.  Fill them with content the Holy Spirit can use to win lost souls!  Lift up the name of Jesus. The Good News must once again roll off our tongue in the office, on campus, and at the mall.

The consequences of cheapening God’s mercy are too terrible to imagine.

The opportunity this miracle has opened for us is too wonderful to ignore.

That is the word of the Lord for this hour!
