ENTITLEMENT AND ESCAPISM

Something is coming and the church is not ready. In recent days God has been trying to warn the American church about what is coming, but, what have we done with these warnings?

I heard one preacher exclaim, “Teaching that anything bad is coming, is defeatism.” He refused to give his children a defeatist world view. What he thinks is love is the ultimate abuse. His children will not be ready.

It’s not as if God hasn’t warned the American church that perilous times are coming. One choice instrument was David Wilkerson. Many listened to his predictions, but many others wrote him off as an angry prophet.

I dare you to reread his words, go back and watch his videos, they are still on YouTube. David will come across completely different to you now. Now that libraries are bringing in drag queens to read to children. Now that abortion is no longer just a ‘right,’ but a cause for celebration. Now that our halls of power are sewers of falsehood, betrayal, ambition, greed, and lust, and now that the very fabric of civilized society is unraveling.

I dare you to call him legalistic, now that you can see that exactly what he predicted is happening.  Now that you see churches have abandoned the Bible.  Now that every day you hear of one more minister condoning materialism and promoting a ‘cheap grace’ that covers lust. Disdaining holiness and denying the existence of Hell. Just as he predicted, there is an epidemic of preachers who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, and pornography.

Our young daughters have unwelcome transgender visitors in the girl’s restroom at school.  We are a nation of drug addicts. Tens of thousands die every year from opioids.

The bane of Modern Christianity can be summed up in just 2 words: Entitlement and Escapism.

Go back with me to a time before all this madness, and see when a sense of entitlement began to infect the church.

No one got saved in the early church because they were promised a lavish life. Each convert knew from the jump they would pay a price for following Jesus. They embraced Christ because something real happened to them. They knew—beyond knowing—that He was the Truth and the Life.  Knowing Him was infinitely worth the cost. All they wanted was Jesus.

It is ironic that we tend to feel sorry for them, when in fact they would pity us! Yes, they were persecuted, but God was real in them. Their clarity unlocked something most of us do not have: inexpressible peace and joy.

Entitlement rolled into church like a Trojan horse. Certain preachers, like all good marketers, considered true discipleship a hard sell, so they replaced it with perks, inducements and flattery. Church became one giant participation trophy. The unspoken boast was, “What have we to do with self-denial? What have we to prepare for?” We as American Christians became too good for suffering. That was for other people, in other nations.

What edge did believers in the first century have over us? A massive one. They could survive anything that they encountered, whereas many today will be taken out the moment something happens that their pastor said God would never let happen.

Since ancient Christians expected to suffer, suffering never threw them for a loop. It never dawned on them that they would escape trials and tribulations. Because of that, they had a singular power that we don’t: the power to glory and thrive in evil times.  Compare that with today’s Christian whose idea of spiritual warfare is claiming a parking space.

This is the person Jesus warned us about in Matthew 13:20, “But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.”

The shocking thing will not just be how many entitled believers will stumble, but how little it will take to make them stumble.

Now let’s talk about escapism. The world that vessels like Billy Graham, Oral Roberts, Kenneth Hagin, Steve Hill, and yes, David Wilkerson warned us about is here. The world that your favorite pulpit babysitter promised would never come—came anyway.

We didn’t escape. We have already witnessed this mass tragedy. Life has taken a turn in these United States that many churchgoers never believed could or would happen. There has been a falling away: because so many were ignorant, so many were offended.

Even many of the Christians who remained faithful, express their escapist denial in many ways. Instead of searching the scriptures for truth, they delve even deeper into teachings that now look silly. They want more materialism; they want more entitlement; they plunge into more false teachings and false ways. They go heavier into emotionalism. Their escapism is expressed in a sanctimonious tone, and then they lie about their reasons for believing they will escape all suffering.  They say we must stay out of politics and not choose sides, even as it has become undeniable that we must take a stand. Instead, they bury their head in the sand and are oblivious as evil takes away our freedom and our children’s future.

Escapism is what gives them a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. Denial is why they imitate New Age teachings and make prophecy into a kind of game. But David Wilkerson also saw something else: A fresh and mighty move of the Spirit. He saw Jesus pulling people aside to enter into a close relationship with Him, and to instill in them the power needed to save this nation.  He said, “God is revealing to all praying people that a glorious new work of the Spirit is about to break forth. God is going to shake everything that can be shaken. He will tear down the old political, backslidden, ecclesiastical system. He will disown the formal, super-church structure. He will chase out of His presence all those who are engaging in self-promoting ministries.”

Many will fall, but many will rise to levels of power and usefulness that are astounding. God not only knew the insanity of today was coming—He took steps to prepare a special relationship that would produce special powers in His Children.  You already know who you are.

God is taking you aside to give you nation-saving power and skills. All glory to His Name!

Still thinks its a game

The Democrats have made it plain: free healthcare for illegals paid for by you. They are not hiding anything. They want the right to kill newborns. They will force the church to stop teaching God’s word on sexual immorality. They will remake America. We see their true colors. They couldn’t be any clearer.

What I don’t get, is how the American church can still think this is all a game.

Because of man, and nature—planet Earth is ready to explode—not from global warming but from moral cooling.  Matthew 24:12 “And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.”

Meanwhile, the church—like passengers partying on the deck of the Titanic—pats herself on the back for what she considers her ‘big events.’

Nothing has stopped America’s headlong depravity. Nothing has even slowed it down. We have spent more money, more time, and more talent than ever—yet the church never asks, “Why do we keep doing things that don’t work?” Why can’t we impact culture?”

When the church:

-Feeds a powerless Gospel to a sick nation, a Gospel that does not deliver us from evil, but even worse, makes those who have already been converted still weaker, the church must think it is a game.

-When the church no longer views the works of Satan as the enemy, but believes the worst thing that can happen is to have an unsuccessful life—the church is just playing a game.  The only solution is a return to the Bible.  The Bible needs to set fire to our sermons.

Sadly, even many of my Spirit-filled acquaintances are also playing games.  Facebook is like a Petri dish for Pentecostals.  In one compressed medium you witness the banal bacteria that excite Charismatics today.

Witness the games:

-Titles like Prophet, Bishop, and Apostle are flung around indiscriminately.  Every garish emotional experience is hawked as being from God.  One “prophet” says he went back in time and visited Moses.  Who of us has not scratched our heads at preachers in ill-fitting jeans, live-streaming from a near-empty church, telling us that they are the ‘vessel of the hour’?

– Conferences promise that you will get “a word from God” if you pay a fee…as if the Holy Spirit was some kind of On Demand Movie Channel.  Or they offer formulas to “activate” blessings.  This is New Age philosophy.  God is not a force to be manipulated—He is an awesome person to be adored and obeyed.  God is not your shield and butler! Gifts arrive, as the Spirit wills, to those whose hearts are broken and those who are emptied of self. His gifts are for the lost, the poor, and the forsaken.

-Everything seems based on angelic visitations, dreams, visions, and trips to heaven.  Most of our time is spent on these ‘experiences’ rather than on rock-solid instruction from the Word of God.

I believe in dreams, prophecy, healing, angels, and visions—but if they are from God, they will drive us to the front line of the culture war, and not into emotionally comfortable safe-zones.

“The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty to the tearing down of strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:4)

We are nowhere near tearing down any kind of strongholds—because we think it’s a game. We insulate the supernatural from the ones who need it most. We are role playing. We are doing our own version of dungeons and dragons.

Beloved, this is not a game.  When Christians toy with materialism, celebrity, alcohol, compromise, and carnalityit spells doom for America.   Right now, giant media sources such as Google, Facebook, Apple, YouTube, and the rest of Silicon Valley, are threatening to pull the plug on Christians, Christian Schools, and churches.  Pinterest has already been caught deleting posts containing scripture. Every day they inch closer to full censorship.  Will your zany videos matter, when they are immediately taken down and no one can see them?

Our preaching ricochets off a culture careening into indescribable debauchery.  Soon it will be illegal to preach the doctrines you are now ignoring.  What a horror!  Pastor, you will wake up one day feeling remorse over the truths you ignored, because now it’s too late—they have been banned.

I am often asked, “Mario is there any hope?”

The answer is, “Yes! Because my hope is founded on God’s fierce love for America!  He will not let this nation go, without a fierce fight.  My hope is also in some of the last people you would expect.

My hope is in the discouraged preacher.  They are the honest-to-God preachers, who feel like fools when they see the runaway success of those who have compromised their ministries.

Psalm 73:12 “Behold, these are the ungodly who are always at ease; they increase in riches. 13 Surely, I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocence. 14 For all day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.”

My hope is in those who chose to fail honestly, rather than succeed artificially.

Are you struggling with decreasing numbers and falling finances, even as you present Christ-centered, Bible-based-truth from your pulpit?   God sees you! Hold on just a little longer.  Fire is coming that will cause such a stampede that you won’t know where to put the crowds.

My hope is in the Christian nobodies.  Have you failed?  Did man take away your pulpit?  Get ready…your brokenness is a key to the fire of God in this hour.  A nationwide hunger for reality is about to make shallowness obsolete.

Are you a teacher, business person, police officer, or stay at home mom?  Do you burn with a passion for your community?

Get ready for vision and anointing! They are about to break out, right where you live!

The hour is so dangerous that God must bring down religious empires, while promoting others to great power and influence.  Satan is also playing games.

I believe that God is not playing games. Using the last people we would expect, He is about to teach Satan what war really looks like!

THE CHURCH IS FALLING BACK INTO OBAMA ERA APATHY

Remember the horror you felt when you thought Hillary might be president?  Save that feeling, you’ll likely need it this November.  Up until today I could say Republicans had an edge for the midterms because of money and the victories Trump has won.  Now, I can’t say that.
An old familiar virus is infecting the church.  It is removing the sense of urgency that got Trump Elected.  It is bringing back failed ideas that sidelined the church in two disastrous presidential elections.
In 2008 we were warned what Barack Obama would do.  Pastors didn’t think it was right to get involved in politics.  On top of that, millions of Christians, with a murky understanding of the Bible voted for him.  Those fallacies are back in the church.
Obama ended up being far worse than we could have imagined.  The vast machinery of the left that he set in place is still dismantling our freedom.  How soon we  forget  the price of apathy.
By taking the House and the Senate, the left can do as much damage as having Hillary in the White House.  The first thing they will do is impeach Donald Trump.  While it will take more than impeachment to remove him from office—they will move to do that next.
Before you write me off as an alarmist let me ask some simple questions?
Do you see Christian Leaders trying to rally the church to stop leftist candidates?  Think about what everyone is preaching right now.  Do you hear anything about the looming threat to our freedom and our children’s?  My guess is that you don’t.
Do you notice how many in the church are apathetic because they think that Trump’s victory is the only real victory we need?  They are blissfully ignorant of the need for a whole new effort to organize and defeat the coming threat.
Do you realize that there is only one thing you need to know to vote in the midterm election?  It goes beyond the fact that they want to take away the second amendment, they would to return to the deficits and government regulations that were strangling our economy and they would go back to the foreign policy that endangered us.
Here is the one thing you must remember: The Democratic Party has declared war on Christianity.  Think about it…
Who bankrupted Christian bakers?  Who devastated the Little Sisters of the Poor?  Who told our chaplains not to mention Christ to our soldiers?  Who told pastors they would lose their tax exemption if they told their congregations how to vote?  Who put Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s nonprofit status in suspense for telling voters to vote their conscience?  Who booed God and Israel at their convention? Who changed marriage?  Who made your children go to schools with transgender bathrooms?

(Check out my blog on how Obama was the most Biblically hostile President in history)    https://wp.me/p1vrzp-3DQ

You are about to see the vilest campaign in American history.  The left will divest itself of all decency.  There will be a billion dollars burned on a propaganda campaign to label anyone who supports Trump or Republicans as racist, sexist, homophobic, and mentally challenged.
Christians are just not prepared—at least not yet—to stand against this wicked assault. At this moment, an old lie is resurfacing—it is the idea that to be sweet Christians we must not take stands that make us look bad.
The other lie is the one that says since God is sovereign and omnipotent we should just trust  the outcome of November.
The Word of God shows us that God has chosen to use prayer, repentance, and obedience.  2 Chronicles 7:14 begins with “if my people.”  That proves it is on us.
Between now and November I will be doing everything God tells me to warn and provoke the church to action.

Gullible Christians are helping to kill America

Gullible Christians are helping to kill America

By Mario Murillo

Satan’s masterstroke of deceiving, dividing and diluting Christians in America is now paying off.  He has fooled gullible Christians into helping kill America.

Millions of believers are blind to the disaster a Clinton presidency would be to their jobs, their church and their children.

They have been pickled by preaching that tells them Daddy with take care of everything; America will be okay no matter who you vote for.

Max Lucado tells us God is on the throne and that means that on November 9th, we will be fine.  History, the Bible, and the facts about Hillary Clinton refute this.

God was on the throne when Hitler rose to power.  God was on the throne when Stalin exterminated untold millions.

God is on the throne as Christians all over the world are being martyred by radical Islam.

God is looking for heroes to rise up, by His power, and intervene to save America. He uses people.

If Hillary wins on November 8th, we will not be fine. The Bible says in Proverbs 29:2, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked person rules, the people groan.”  Prepare for years and years of groaning if she wins.

James Riley said: “Texas pastor Max Lucado leads what he calls a ‘red state’ church, but Max has a maxim: ‘I don’t want anybody to know how I vote.’ Max does this to make sure the Democratic voters in his church, the ones who support abortion on demand, Islamo-pandering, and class warfare are not made to feel uncomfortable. However, Max recently broke his neutrality pledge…  According to Max:

‘I would not have said anything about Mr. Trump, never — I would never have said anything if he didn’t call himself a Christian. It’d be none of my business whatsoever to make any comments about his language, his vulgarities, his slander of people, but I was deeply troubled … that here’s a man who holds up a Bible one day, and calls a lady “bimbo” the next.’”

Think on that for a moment. Max closes his eyes to another “Christian,” Barack Obama, who stands foursquare for the slaughter of millions of unborn babies, at your expense, but Donald Trump called a lady a “bimbo?”

if

Evangelist Beth Moore has also decided to help Hillary.  “Beth Moore is standing in the gap for Hillary.  Beth Moore is breaking away from fellow evangelical leaders/speakers who stand with Donald Trump, saying she can no longer do so after hearing the 2005 recording of his off-the-record conversation with Billy Bush.  Moore suggested that Trump’s words from 11 years ago highlight how men are “objectifying” women today, and she made clear that she will not support Trump over it. She issued a number of tweets on the topic, not one of which criticized Hillary Clinton for the way she has treated the women who allege Bill Clinton sexually assaulted them — women like Paula Jones and Juanita Broaddrick.” -Awr Hawkins, Britebart News.

The fact is, neither Max nor Beth have said anything about Bill and Hillary Clinton.  So, where is their Christianity when it comes to protecting America from tyranny?

Beth, what is your opinion of Hillary enabling a rapist?  What do you think about her laughing at a 12-year-old girl that was raped?  Why aren’t you talking about that?  If Hillary wins, Bill Clinton will be immoral in the White House. General Colin Powell said, in an email, that Bill Clinton is still committing adultery. What kind of a role model is that for men?

Max, Hillary said she will force religion to change its beliefs.  What are you doing to protect the sheep from that?

Eric Metaxas said, “If Hillary Clinton is elected, the country’s chance to have a Supreme Court that values the Constitution—and the genuine liberty and self-government for which millions have died—is gone. Not for four years, or eight, but forever.”

Instead of raising up an informed electorate who could vote as a moral bloc, the modern pulpit has created gullible Christians—Christians who are about to help Hillary push the nation over a cliff.

presidential_debate_2_ft-article-header

Is the motive really about women and love of people? Or is it, once again, political correctness?  Are popular leaders wanting to look good to outsiders, hedging their bet that Hillary is going to win and they will escape the wrath of the new order?  Are they living in denial about the evil that will befall America once she is in the White House?

One of the most amazing and revealing statements Trump ever made—he made to pastors.  He asked them why they let the country get in this condition when—all along—they had the power to get what they wanted.

He told them, “There are 50 million of you, and if you had worked together you could have elected everything from city councilmen, to state Assemblymen, to Congressmen and presidents.”  He is painfully correct.  That is not just a statement of our influence but of our responsibility.

To the basket of Christian gullibles I say this: NOTHING MATTERS MORE IN THIS ELECTION THAN WHAT HILLARY WILL DO TO AMERICA.  SHE WILL FILL THE SUPREME COURT WITH LEFTIST JUDGES—SHE WILL DESTROY OUR ECONOMY—SHE WILL CAUSE A WAR—ALL FORMS OF ABORTION WILL BE LEGAL—AND THE CHURCH IN AMERICA WILL BE SEVERELY CRIPPLED.

We could stop this insanity if we unified against real—not imagined evil.  If we could see our real duty in this election, if we could get over our false sensibilities and hurt feelings, we could save the country.  The great heroes of our faith who witnessed tyranny would grab us and shake to our core if they saw our apathy and naivete in the face of this threat.

Should Christians Vote for Trump?

Should Christians Vote for Trump?

By Eric Metaxas

Over this past year many of Donald Trump’s comments have made me almost literally hopping mad. The hot-mic comments from 2005 are especially horrifying. Can there be any question we should denounce them with flailing arms and screeching volume?

Trump’s behavior is odious, but Clinton has a deplorable basketful of deal breakers.

This question should hardly require an essay, but let’s face it: We’re living in strange times. America is in trouble.

Over this past year many of Donald Trump’s comments have made me almost literally hopping mad. The hot-mic comments from 2005 are especially horrifying. Can there be any question we should denounce them with flailing arms and screeching volume? I must not hang out in the right locker rooms, because if anyone I know said such things I might assault him physically (and repent later). So yes, many see these comments as a deal breaker.

But we have a very knotty and larger problem. What if the other candidate also has deal breakers? Even a whole deplorable basketful? Suddenly things become horribly awkward. Would God want me simply not to vote? Is that a serious option?

-What if not pulling the lever for Mr. Trump effectively means electing someone who has actively enabled sexual predation in her husband before—and while—he was president?

-Won’t God hold me responsible for that? What if she defended a man who raped a 12-year-old and in recalling the case laughed about getting away with it? Will I be excused from letting this person become president?

-What if she used her position as secretary of state to funnel hundreds of millions into her own foundation, much of it from nations that treat women and gay people worse than dogs? Since these things are true, can I escape responsibility for them by simply not voting?

Many say they won’t vote because choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil. But this is sophistry. Neither candidate is pure evil. They are human beings. We cannot escape the uncomfortable obligation to soberly choose between them.

if

Not voting—or voting for a third candidate who cannot win—is a rationalization designed more than anything to assuage our consciences. Yet people in America and abroad depend on voters to make this very difficult choice.

Children in the Middle East are forced to watch their fathers drowned in cages by ISIS. Kids in inner-city America are condemned to lives of poverty, hopelessness and increasing violence. Shall we sit on our hands and simply trust “the least of these” to God, as though that were our only option? Don’t we have an obligation to them?

Two heroes about whom I’ve written faced similar difficulties. William Wilberforce, who ended the slave trade in the British Empire, often worked with other parliamentarians he knew to be vile and immoral in their personal lives.

Why did he? First, because as a sincere Christian he knew he must extend grace and forgiveness to others, since he desperately needed them himself. Second, because he knew the main issue was not his moral purity, nor the moral impurity of his colleagues, but rather the injustices and horrors suffered by the African slaves whose cause he championed. He knew that before God his first obligation was to them, and he must do what he could to help them.

The anti-Nazi martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer also did things most Christians of his day were disgusted by. He most infamously joined a plot to kill the head of his government. He was horrified by it, but he did it nonetheless because he knew that to stay “morally pure” would allow the murder of millions to continue. Doing nothing or merely “praying” was not an option. He understood that God was merciful, and that even if his actions were wrong, God saw his heart and could forgive him. But he knew he must act.

Wilberforce and Bonhoeffer knew it was an audience of One to whom they would ultimately answer. And He asks, “What did you do to the least of these?”

It’s a fact that if Hillary Clinton is elected, the country’s chance to have a Supreme Court that values the Constitution—and the genuine liberty and self-government for which millions have died—is gone. Not for four years, or eight, but forever.

Many say Mr. Trump can’t be trusted to deliver on this score, but Mrs. Clinton certainly can be trusted in the opposite direction. For our kids and grandkids, are we not obliged to take our best shot at this? Shall we sit on our hands and refuse to choose?

If imperiously flouting the rules by having a private server endangered American lives and secrets and may lead to more deaths, if she cynically deleted thousands of emails, and if her foreign-policy judgment led to the rise of Islamic State, won’t refusing to vote make me responsible for those suffering as a result of these things?

vote

How do I squirm out of this horrific conundrum? It’s unavoidable: We who can vote must answer to God for these people, whom He loves. We are indeed our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers.

We would be responsible for passively electing someone who champions the abomination of partial-birth abortion, someone who is celebrated by an organization that sells baby parts. We already live in a country where judges force bakers, florists and photographers to violate their consciences and faith—and Mrs. Clinton has zealously ratified this. If we believe this ends with bakers and photographers, we are horribly mistaken. No matter your faith or lack of faith, this statist view of America will dramatically affect you and your children.

For many of us, this is very painful, pulling the lever for someone many think odious. But please consider this: A vote for Donald Trump is not necessarily a vote for Donald Trump himself. It is a vote for those who will be affected by the results of this election. Not to vote is to vote. God will not hold us guiltless.

Why Liberals want to ban anyone who disagrees with them

If you’re a conservative, you don’t need to silence the opposition. In fact, we conservatives want liberals to talk, to make buffoons of themselves, to prove their folly. We want liberals to expound upon their ridiculous ideas, to show the world exactly what they’re about. Nancy Pelosi? Give that tiresome woman a microphone. Chatty liberals are the best advertisement for conservatism.

Failing Liberals Turn To Oppression To Hold On To Power

Kurt Schlichter

But liberals just can’t have conservatives speaking. We’ll tell the truth, and that’s why liberals need to shut us up.

Their traditional intimidation tactics are wearing out. Calling someone a “racist” used to be a devastating moral indictment. Liberals’ promiscuous employment of the word first turned it into a cliché and then into an ironic punchline.

I know, saying that out loud is racist. And sexist. And cisgender heteronormative, whatever the h— that means.

So now liberals have stepped up to formal governmental repression. Take the IRS scandal – or ex-scandal, in the eyes of the mainstream media. The Obama administration, at the urging of red state Democrat senators who are about to lose their seats because of their track records of failure, are doing everything they can to turn the taxman loose on the organizations that are pointing out their track records of failure.

Sure, the liberals come up with excuses, with justifications, with rationales for this prima facie oppression. But understand that the left was never against political repression. The left is only against being repressed itself.

It’s open season on everyone else. Don’t dare bow down to god whose name isn’t spelled “G – O – V – E – R – N – M – E – N – T.” Today’s heretic hunters work for Kathleen Sebelius, ready to burn you at the stake for expecting grown men and women to come up with the dough for their own contraceptives. No one expects the HHS Inquisition!

The Federal Communications Commission just floated a trial balloon about going out to radio and television stations to evaluate reporters on how they cover the news. There was a time when journalists’ response to a government inquiry into how they did their job would be “Go to h—, you goose-stepping bureaucratic flunky.”

Not anymore. Now, their response is slavish submission to their progressive governmental dominatrix. When supposedly independent, iconoclastic liberal journalists let themselves to be dominated by the feds, their safeword is “Hillary.”

Liberalism has to muzzle the truth because it operates on lies. It is built on lies, fueled by lies, and creates an empire of lies.

Look at the Obamacare scam. Liberals don’t even blink at the fact that its foundational premise that if you liked your health care, you could keep it was a lie. They’re not even offended by the lie. They’re offended that we point out that it was a lie.

Now the same people who got us into this mess are telling us we should go along and trust them to fix the same d— problem that they created in the first place. Liberals are the Lucys of American politics, holding the football and promising that this time it’ll be different. We need to stop being the Charlie Browns.

In the Senate, liberals toss traditions like the filibuster out the window for political expediency. The president creates his own laws or changes ones that are already in place on a whim. There are no norms, there are no standards. Everything is a short-term political gambit, and little things like the Constitution are just obstacles to progress.

How does all this end well? It doesn’t. It can’t. That is, unless the American people come to their senses and demand that the Constitution, as it is written, be respected. That change come through the political process, through persuasion rather than diktat.

But if that doesn’t happen, what then? What becomes of our system? How do we act when we take power again? Should we also ignore those same principles that we seek to reaffirm in order to reaffirm them?

Does the next Republican president simply announce that he’s repealing Obamacare by executive order? Does he simply refuse to implement other laws we dislike? Does he refuse to collect foolish taxes? Does he use his prosecutorial discretion to decide to refuse to prosecute his allies? Is that what we want?

No, it is not what we want, but it may be what we get. We are not ones for unilateral disarmament. Our constitutional system is not a suicide pact, as many have observed. The liberals aren’t going to like it when we apply the same ruthlessness to them.

If the rules of the game are now that there are no rules, then the only political currency is raw power. But we know what happens when there are no rules, where pure power is the sole measure of right and wrong. I served in countries like that. They are full of mass graves

The American system’s strength is not that everyone always wins. It is that the system cultivates our ability to lose gracefully, to understand that you were heard, that you had your say, that there was a process, and that you lost fair and square. It sustains itself by reinforcing its own legitimacy.

But if your losses aren’t fair, if you haven’t been heard, if the rules have been bent or broken or ignored, that crucial legitimacy is gone.  And then there are no rules to respect.

What keeps this grand experiment in freedom going is that we honored, at least until now, our Constitution’s boundaries. Sure, we pushed at the edges, nudged the envelope, sometimes fudged the line, but what is happening now is different. What’s happening now is that the line is being erased.

Inside the mind of a shameless liar

Dr. Keith Ablow: Hillary Clinton — Inside the mind of a shameless liar

Recently, it has been reported that Hillary Clinton is using psychologists to prepare for her debates with Donald Trump.  Apparently, some within the Clinton campaign believed that Mr. Trump seemed ill-at-ease when, during a Republican presidential primary debate, he addressed Senator Marco Rubio’s contention that Trump’s small hands likely meant his private parts were also small.

In fact, Trump seemed completely comfortable addressing that intensely personal attack, simply saying that it wasn’t true.  His willingness and ability to dispense with the matter in such a straightforward way shouldn’t give the Clinton campaign confidence that Trump can be rocked with psychological missives; it should terrify them.  Because when a man can speak directly, in front of cameras and the entire nation, even about those matters which are usually unspeakable, he isn’t going to run away from much of anything.

Donald Trump wears his psyche on his sleeve.

Hillary Clinton is the one whose psychological make up would seem to leave her vulnerable.  Her penchant for lying is a problem, but the really big problem is that she seems unable to determine when her lies are registering with audiences as clearly untrue. At the core, people who lie transparently do so because they lack empathy—the ability to intuit and vicariously experience what others are thinking and feeling.  Locked behind walls of narcissism or arrogance or imperiousness, consumed with the pursuit of power, they can’t tell convincing lies because they can’t truly resonate with how their words and mannerisms are being received.

Hillary Clinton’s penchant for lying is a problem, but the really big problem is that she seems unable to determine when her lies are registering with audiences as clearly untrue.

Hillary Clinton is, to borrow from a fairy tale, like the emperor with no clothes, who thinks that others can’t see his nakedness. We have in Ms. Clinton, if you will, an empress with no clothes.  Everyone knows her cover ups are transparent—except, seemingly, Secretary Clinton, herself.

All that Donald Trump needs to do, in order to expose Ms. Clinton as a liar is to ask her to repeat her defenses related to her use of a personal email server when she was Secretary of State, her mingling of State Department business with Clinton Foundation business and her having abandoned Ambassador Chris Stephens, Foreign Service Office Sean Smith and two former Navy Seals to die at Benghazi.  Tens of millions of Americans watching will feel, in their hearts, that she is a liar.
