Just when Satan thought he was safe

A highly visible worship leader defects from the faith. A million-seller Christian-influencer denies Christ. Social media blocks churches. A national frenzy for immorality. Millions raging in anger against believers.

Satan believes he is safe against the prospect of revival. He could not be more wrong—and the pessimists in the church could not be more wrong.

Revival struck London through John Wesley when everyone thought it was impossible.   One out of every seven houses in London was a house of prostitution.  More people were attending séances than church.  Nearly 100,000 children lived in slums like animals.  The London Times had not mentioned Christmas for decades…not even once.

After the revival, England became the missionary leader to the world.

Revival struck Kentucky when it was unthinkable.  This was the most lawless state in the union.  There was no police force.  Every criminal on the run headed for Kentucky.  Murder, rape, and alcoholism were pandemic.  Revival flipped Kentucky so violently that it became the most zealously Christian State in America.

The early twentieth century was a far more skeptical era than today.  The blush of Darwinism and Marxism was so feverish that it was a foregone conclusion that Christianity would go away altogether. Scientists declared the Age of Reason and solemnly assured us that religion would be a thing of the past by the 1920s.

Imagine in that atmosphere, if you were to have said in 1906, “A one eyed black man is going to rent an old and dingy horse livery on Azusa Street in downtown Los Angeles, and start a movement that will engulf nearly 600 million people worldwide.”  The men in white would have been sent to collect you.

The point is that revivals are impossibleuntil they happen.

You should also know what the church was preaching in those darkest moments before the awakenings began.  Pulpits were filled with pessimists who, instead of rebuking the despair, joined in the chorus.  They declared the day of revival to be over!  But, even that did not stop God.

How is it that revival can strike without warning in the most unpromising times and grow in the hardest soil?  The answer is that when darkness is intense, we tend look at the wrong indicators.  It’s not that there are no warning signs that revival is coming, it is simply that we do not know them when we see them because the fear is so loud.

Look at today.  Do you see any signs of revival?  Most would say, “Absolutely not!”  They would say all of the same things that people have said prior to every outpouring of God: Revival cannot come because the times are too evil.

That is the argument today.  We have legalized gay marriage. We have legalized drugs. And we are even toying with Islam.  Many of our leaders are delusional snowflakes that are bent on finding the best ways to drive us to extinction.  Churches are closing and thousands of ministers are leaving the ministry every year.  You know the rest, because you have heard it a hundred times.

Atheists are boasting that the whole world in general is becoming secular and anti-supernatural.  The facts are just the opposite.  It is a very religious world, far more religious than it was 50 years ago.

Consider these statistics from sociologist Rodney Stark:

Gallup World Poll Surveys of more than a million people living in 163 nations show that:

  • 81 percent claim to belong to an organized religious faith, and most of the rest report engaging in religious activities such as prayer or making offerings to the gods in various “folk religion” temples.
  • 74 percent say religion is an important part of their daily lives.
  • 50 percent report they have attended a place of worship or religious service in the past seven days.
  • In very few nations do as many as five percent claim to be atheists, and only in China, Vietnam, and South Korea do they exceed 20 percent.
  • Furthermore, in every nook and cranny left by organized faiths, all manner of unconventional spiritual and mystical practices are booming.
  • There are more occult healers than medical doctors in Russia.
  • 38 percent of the French believe in astrology.
  • 35 percent of the Swiss agree that “some fortune tellers really can foresee the future.”
  • Nearly everyone in Japan is careful to have their new car blessed by a Shinto priest.

To be sure, little of this is Christian, but it is undeniable that the waters of supernatural hunger are being stirred worldwide.

Another sign is the evil within people themselves.   For example, Saul of Tarsus was at the peak of his terror-attacks on the church when he was violently converted. What no one but God knew was that there was a growing desperation inside of this Pharisee, who would soon become Paul the Apostle.   In a similar way, societies are often at their worst right before revival.

What we do not want to do is miss revival when it hits!

Dark times can absorb our faith in the power of God.  Many believers find themselves in a condition that is truly worse than they ever imagined.  Pangs of fear grip men of God who were once lions in the pulpit.  We invent doctrines that fit our disappointment.  We build ministries based on our lowered expectations.

You need a healthy respect for how the power of dark times can rob us of faith.  It has happened to the best of us.

500 people saw Jesus Christ ascend into the clouds.  Think about that.  In the face of such absolute proof that Jesus was the Son of God, how could they ever doubt?

As He ascended He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Holy Spirit.  Surely they would wait…right?  Astonishingly, only 120 were still waiting in the upper room on the Day of Pentecost.  How is it possible in the face of so great an assurance that those eyewitnesses would falter and abandon their posts?

Their world was filled with sudden terror from a wicked king, oppression from religious leaders, and tyranny from Roman occupiers.  Their daily grind absorbed their zeal for the promises of God.

Do not be like those 380 people who missed one of the greatest moments in history.  Here are two things that you need to confess and say to your spirit, so that you will not leave the upper room.

Either it was always true or it was never true. Times do not alter truth. A lack of money does not change God’s word about prosperity.  Sickness does not nullify the fact of God’s healing power.  The evil of men does not overrule the supremacy of Christ.  If God has made you promises, these dark times cannot stop their fulfillment.

Here is an example of that: 1 Samuel 17:34, “But David said to Saul, ‘Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

It is easy to say that evil today is more intense and sophisticated than ever before.  But, neither Saul nor Israel had ever faced anything like Goliath before.  David said that it did not matter; this new threat would have the same outcome as all of the previous threats God had given him victory over!

Jesus is telling us to wait for the power that is about to break out, no matter what.  Does revival look totally impossible to you?  Don’t worry, revivals all look that way until they happen.

An inconvenient fire

AN INCONVENIENT FIRE

By Mario Murillo

Al Gore spoke of an inconvenient truth. I am talking about something far more imposing: an inconvenient fire.

What is this fire doing?  It is spreading an insatiable hunger to know God: God alone.  A growing number of believers want to know God Himself—they want just Him.  They are not thinking about anything He can do for them.  They must know Him—more than oxygen, food and water—they must have God!

This fire awakens an ancient hunger—the hunger that possessed saints of old.  A.W. Tozer wrote, “Come near to the holy men and women of the past and you will soon feel the heat of their desire after God. They mourned for Him, they prayed and wrestled and sought for Him day and night, in season and out, and when they had found Him the finding was all the sweeter for the long seeking.”

And those who already know Him want to know Him better.  Tozer continued, “Moses used the fact that he knew God as an argument for knowing Him better. “Now, therefore, I pray Thee, if I have found grace in Thy sight, show me now Thy way, that I may know Thee, that I may find grace in Thy sight”; and from there he rose to make the daring request, “I beseech Thee, show me Thy glory.” (Exodus 33) God was frankly pleased by this display of ardor, and the next day called Moses into the mount, and there in solemn procession made all His glory pass before him.”

But why would this inconvenient fire be the worst nightmare to masked Antifa thugs, tepid seeker-friendly churches, or false ministers?   Isn’t this fire pulling saints off the front lines into a full-time pursuit of God?   How can this be a threat?  It is the greatest threat!   NOTHING TERRIFIES SATAN MORE THAN A WIDESPREAD HUNGER TO KNOW GOD:

-It puts them into the place and condition that Jesus has yearned for His church to be.  They are in God’s presence. They are devoid of ideas, agendas, or blueprints.   Their intercession is no longer contaminated.  Prayer is no longer a booster rocket for pet projects.  They are becoming decentralized. They are self-emptying, that they might see God in all His beauty.

God has triumphed over their dead works.  By doing this, He kills the source of their anxiety, their cares, and inadequacies.   David Wilkerson said, “I had more ideas than any preacher in America. Ideas on how to evangelize. How to organize New Testament programs. The programs and ideas were successful enough to entrap me and keep me on the treadmill of busy-ness.

“But all along my heart yearned for more. I knew the blessing was not in building. Not in some well-planned scheme to reach the lost. Not in bigness, and not in activity. I discovered the hard way that the glory of God, the peace, and joy of the Spirit, was in being stripped down, emptied, and made totally weak.”

-They are suddenly alive to the real horror—their own fleshliness.  The issue is no longer the depravity of the culture, but their personal carnality.  This inconvenient fire struck Isaiah with such agony that he tossed aside his prayer for influence and power.  All he can cry is; “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” (Isaiah 6:5).   Isaiah is unmade, that he might be remade.

In the towering glory, you see the indescribable.   You see how victorious God is.  How inevitable His victory is!  You see Satan’s utter defeat.  You are transfixed by the wisdom that is now available—the resources at Gods’ disposal—the tactics He can use.  His mighty plan makes our plans microscopically puny.

God will declare to you what He said to Isaiah: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.  “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8,9)

-Here’s what makes this fire so inconvenient:  It was simply not part of the plan.

-It was not in the plan for the lukewarm ‘convenient’ church to level off and be overruled by inconvenient fire.  Attraction-based churches fold when God Himself becomes the attraction.

-It was not in the plan for fake ministers to ever stop lying, stop prospering, or fooling the masses.  The light and heat of this fire will expose and topple them.

-It was not in the plan for left-wing God-haters to see their plan to eradicate Christianity from America neutralized by inconvenient fire.

This spreading flame—and the powerful vessels it creates—was simply not in the plan.  Thus a new vessel is about to emerge−a God-designed weapon. An inconvenient sort of person is about to appear on the American stage. A person who will own a passion you cannot stop, who will speak words you cannot counter, and perform miracles you cannot deny.

Join me in seeking this inconvenient fire!

DID THE LEFT SOW THE SEEDS?

Has the angry left inadvertently sown the seeds of revival in California among an unlikely group?  Here’s is what is happening in our tent.

I cannot give you their names or show you a picture. For their safety. Some of them wept their way to Jesus sporting shaved heads and “Hitler” tattooed on the side of their head. But skin heads are not the only ones being saved. They are out of every race and background.

In our tent an average of 100 souls surrender to Jesus per night. But why is this one demographic coming to Christ in unusual numbers? Who are they? Are you ready?

They are young men. The trend began in our first tent crusade and grew more obvious in city after city. The left has targeted them, alienated them and in the process made them susceptible to Christ.

If you want to invoke the rage of the left just say something positive about young men—especially white young men. But their wrath is not just for them. Black young men are vilified.  If they think for themselves and do not mouth the mantra of the grievance movement.

Toxic masculinity is a favored excuse to exile young men. They are deliberately targeted for the sake of “progress” in our culture. Many of them wander aimlessly being shunned and stepped over in the leftist agenda.  Radical feminists ridicule them. Colleges persecute them. Cultural mores are stacked against them. Every mom who is raising a son today knows exactly what I am talking about.

Washington Post writer Christine Emba said it was sad that young men were finding hope in the lectures of Jordan Peterson. She even called the article The profound sadness of the Jordan Peterson phenomenon.

She said, “Peterson himself will tell you that serving as a father figure is his heaviest burden. Much of his work is dedicated to pushing a generation of confused youths to build character, put their lives in order, become adults. “I want to talk to you about how people exist in the world,” he told those in attendance last week. And that’s what this tour is all about. It is also what makes it profoundly depressing.

Peterson’s bestseller is a wordy self-help epistle for young men (it’s mostly men who follow him) in need of direction. Inside a cover invoking an old-school, gold- embossed Bible are lessons such as “Stand up straight with your shoulders back,” “Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient),” and “Tell the truth — or, at least, don’t lie.”

How can she find it “profoundly depressing” that young men are finding hope and direction?

The left’s message is undeniable: young men are an oppressive force. It doesn’t get any sicker than that.

Look at the pictures. The altars are filled with young men. Night after night it is the same. This attack on young men has inadvertently planted the seeds of revival in California. Will young men charge into the Kingdom and discover what it means to be a son of God and a man of God.  I know so!

At this hour, our tent is headed to Paradise California—a city destroyed by fire.  Some are saying it can’t be rebuilt. But I know better. I just had lunch with 50 Pastors and leaders from that community and they are amazing! Their determination is astounding!

It would be just like Jesus to give them beauty for ashes. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see a community restored in heart and spirit before it is physically rebuilt.

They invited me here. I come as a servant not a celebrity. I am honored and humbled to work alongside them.

Please pray for these tent meetings. And please, if you know someone living near Paradise tell them about to come and witness the mighty power of God that will be under the tent every night.

Young men are indeed being systematically discarded in California. But that is a catalyst to revival. I know that as the tent travels south on Highway 99 we will see a snowball effect—an army of young men is being born. Psalm 118: 23 says, “This was the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.”
