George Zimmerman Emerged From Hiding for Truck Crash Rescue

George Zimmerman, defendant in the killing of Trayvon Martin, is sworn in as a witness in Seminole circuit court for a pre-trial hearing April 30, 2013 in Sanford, Fla.

George Zimmerman, who has been in hiding since he was acquitted of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, emerged to help rescue a family who was trapped in an overturned vehicle, police said today.

Zimmerman was one of two men who came to the aid of a family of four — two parents and two children — trapped inside a blue Ford Explorer SUV that had rolled over after traveling off the highway in Sanford, Fla. at approximately 5:45 p.m. Thursday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The crash occurred at the intersection of I-4 and route Route 46, police said. The crash site is less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot Martin.

By the time police arrived, two people – including Zimmerman – had already helped the family get out of the overturned car, the sheriff’s office said. No one was reported to be injured.

Zimmerman was not a witness to the crash and left after speaking with the deputy, police said.

It’s the first known sighting of Zimmerman since he left the courtroom following his acquittal last week on murder charges for the death of Martin. Zimmerman, 29, shot and killed Martin, 17, in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26, 2012. The jury determined that Zimmerman shot Martin in self-defense.

The acquittal prompted dozens of protests across the country this past weekend and his lawyers have said that Zimmerman has been the subject of death threats. His lawyers said Zimmerman has been wearing a bullet-proof vest when he ventures out in public.

Zimmerman’s parents told ABC News’ Barbara Walters they too have received death threats and have been unable to return to their home.

Zimmerman’s Parents in Hiding from ‘Enormous Amount of Death Threats’: ABC News Exclusive

“We have had an enormous amount of death threats. George’s legal counsel has had death threats, the police chief of Sanford, many people have had death threats,” Zimmerman’s father, Robert Zimmerman said.”‘Everyone with Georgie’s DNA should be killed’ — just every kind of horrible thing you can imagine.”

An indication of the animosity toward Zimmerman is the number of threatening phone calls being received by a woman in Winter Park, Fla.

Lori Tankel told that someone had incorrectly posted her cell phone number online thinking it was Zimmerman’s. She said she started receiving threatening calls within an hour after the jury had reached a verdict on July 13.

“They were saying things like, ‘Zimmerman? Is this George? We’re going to get you, we’re going to kill you,'” she said.

Her cell phone number is only one digit off from Zimmerman’s, she said.

Tankel said she received at least 80 phone calls within one day of the jury’s not guilty verdict. While the threats died down during the week, she said they ramped right back up again on Friday and continued through the weekend.

“Those phone calls were extremely malicious,” she said. “I think at that point, they kind of knew it wasn’t George Zimmerman’s number, but they were still going to harass me.”

Tankel said she initially reported the threatening calls to the the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, but was told to follow up with law enforcement in Orange County, Fla., where she lives, to file a report, she said.

But Tankel she said she won’t be changing her number anytime soon.

“I’m a sales representative for several different horse-related companies, and I have five states in my territory,” she said. “To change business cards and contact everybody, it’s not that simple.”

Obama: Fanning the flames of racial division and dodging the issues.

“The fact that a lot of African-American boys are painted with a broad brush and the excuses given—”Well, there are these statistics out there that show that African-American boys are more violent,” using that as an excuse to then see sons treated different causes pain.”   Barrack Obama

To combat these broad social issues, Obama offered three broad suggestions:

1. Get the Justice Department involved with training local governments to reduce mistrust in the legal system. (It’s worth remembering that this episode began with an outcry that Zimmerman wasn’t arrested at all after the incident.)

2. Examine local laws—such as “Stand Your Ground”—and see if they “may encourage the kinds of altercations and confrontations and tragedies that we saw in the Florida case rather than diffuse potential altercations.”

3. Think about ways to bolster and support African-American boys so they do not get caught up in the legal system (as the statistics indicate they are more likely to be).

Even despite the discriminatory experiences Obama described, African-Americans perceive less discrimination in some areas today than they did 10 and 20 years ago, according to the results of a new Gallup survey. A shrinking share of blacks blame discrimination for black-white disparities in jobs, income, and housing.

In 1993, for example, 44 percent of blacks said discrimination was mostly to blame for those disparities, while 37 percent say so today. Non-Hispanic whites exhibited a similar shift: 15 percent say discrimination is mostly to blame for the disparities, down from 21 percent two decades ago. Overall, one in five adults today say the disparities are mostly due to discrimination. Older blacks tend to perceive more discrimination than younger blacks, with 47 percent of those 55 and older saying discrimination is mostly to blame for the disparities, compared with 30 percent of those aged 18 to 34.

Note from Mario:

Here is what Obama is deliberately ignoring:

The police, the court, the jury and the FBI all agreed that:

1. The Stand Your Ground law in Florida had nothing to do with the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

2. That race had nothing to do with the confrontation.

3. That the Second Amendment bans Obama from seizing Zimmerman’s gun now that he is acquitted, leaving Zimmerman defenseless against threats on his life.

4.  93% of black men who are killed every year are murdered by other blacks.

Obama is ignoring all of these things so that he will not waste a crisis.

1. He is borrowing a Sharpton tactic of clouding issues to distract from his scandals and his power grabs.

2. He is inflaming his base to shore up support for his failed presidency.

3. He has made this about race so that the moderate left will feel politically incorrect in questioning his motives.

Speaking at the White House on Friday, President Obama addressed the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial for the killing of Trayvon Martin for the first time since 2012, when he declared that if he had a son, he’d look like Martin. This time, Obama said, “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago.”

Obama also said, “Reasonable doubt was relevant, and they rendered a verdict. Once the jury’s spoken, that’s how our system works.”

Obama said he was “bouncing around” ideas with his staff on how to respond to the Zimmerman verdict, adding, “I think it is going to be important for us to do some soul searching.” Pushing against Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, Obama stated, “If Trayvon Martin was of his age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk?”

Finally, Obama went into the racial complexities of the Martin situation: “A lot of African-American boys are painted with a broad brush…If a white male teen was involved in the same kind of scenario, both the outcome and the aftermath might have been different.” He did say, “As difficult and as challenging as this whole episode has been, I don’t want us to lose sight that things are getting better…We’re becoming a more perfect union, not a perfect union, but a more perfect union.”

Obama took no questions from the press.

Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman and the Gospel of Christ.

Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman and the Gospel of Christ.

You have noticed perhaps that I have refrained from addressing the complex and tragic events of Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman.

I have a son and cannot imagine the agony of Trayvon’s parents.  That is why I am going to be careful to be sensitive to their loss and to say that I am praying for them.

The title of this blog suggests its goal.  What does the Gospel of Christ have to do with this event that has so completely divided the nation?  The answer is EVERYTHING.

I am ghetto raised.  My parents worked hard and kept us off of all government subsidies.  They modeled self-reliance to 8 children every day.   One day I was born again.  I immediately followed Jesus and never looked back.  I did not know that God was doing two miracles in me.   First he took me out of the Ghetto and then He took the Ghetto out of me.

My conversion and infilling of the Holy Spirit gave me an instinctive understanding that the worst drug in the inner city was Government dependency.

Look at the photos of Detroit and Hiroshima.  Hiroshima was hit with an atomic bomb explosion.  Detroit was hit with another kind of bomb; social programs that sap dignity and the will to become independent.  Hiroshima has risen from the ashes not with government handouts but with a pride in the people to rebuild.  Billions and Billions of dollars of government aide has gone to Detroit and left it a burned out shell.  Now the government wanted to increase the amount that we pour into Detroit.

These pictures  prove a point.  Liberal social spending is a lie that actually holds minorities down.  It is a lie that the political drug dealers who must keep alive.  The biggest lie is when you refuse to face facts.

Here is a comment on this post from a native of Detroit:  “Being from Detroit myself, I still have the cassettes from when you were here in Feb. thru March 2000 at Detroit World Outreach for a three week revival. (R.I.P. Jack Wallace) The plight in the neighborhoods has gotten worse since you were here as there are more and more vacant homes and the debt of the city of Detroit has increased at an alarming rate as thousands have fled the city. Downtown has made strides in some areas because certain private investors have taken risks to invest millions of dollars, meanwhile there has been a former city council member, Monica Conyers, the wife of U.S.congressman John Conyers already having served a prison sentence, a former mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, who is currently in federal prison along with his thug friend, Bobby Ferguson, awaiting sentencing. Detroit is the perfect example of liberal government failure.”  -Charles

The other lie that they must foment is that racism is what is killing black young men in America. A 2007 special report released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, reveals that approximately 8,000 — and, in certain years, as many as 9,000 African Americans are murdered annually in the United States. This chilling figure is accompanied by another equally sobering fact, that 93% of these murders are in fact perpetrated by other blacks.

The analysis, supported by FBI records, finds that in 2005 alone, for example, African Americans accounted for 49% of all homicide victims in the US — again, almost exclusively at the hands of other African Americans. None of these killings are sparking riots or demonstrations and for a good reason.  The lie must be kept alive.   An angry base will ignore continue to blindly follow those who stir their anger.

The images of Detroit and Hiroshima are haunting reminders of the left’s refusal to find real answers to the disaster of the inner city.  They will call for demonstrations in 100 cities over one death and ignore the tens of thousands of deaths that have nothing to do with racism or gun control.

Never in my ministry have I resorted to this but it is unavoidable at this point.  Reverend Jesse Jackson and Reverend Al Sharpton almost make me want to never use the title of Reverend again.   They never preach the Gospel that would get black young men out of crime and despair.  They never preach the message that can put fathers back in inner city homes.   Instead of fomenting racial anger and postponing the hope of people they should be preaching the one message that will end racism, poverty and violence.   We can all agree that Trayvon Martin is a tragedy that should never have happened but we will never end poverty and injustice with lies.

Docs: Justice Department facilitated anti-Zimmerman protests

A division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) was deployed to Sanford, Florida in 2012 to provide assistance for anti-George Zimmerman protests, including a rally headlined by activist Al Sharpton, according to newly released documents.

The Community Relations Service (CRS), a unit of DOJ, reported expenses related to its deployment in Sanford to help manage protests between March and April 2012, according to documents obtained by the watchdog group Judicial Watch.

CRS spent $674.14 between March 25-27 related to having been “deployed to Sanford, FL, to work marches, demonstrations, and rallies related to the shooting and death of an African-American teen by a neighborhood watch captain.” CRS spent another $1,142.84 for the same purpose between March 25-28.

CRS spent $892.55 “to provide support for protest deployment in Florida” between March 30-April 1, and $751.60 “to provide technical assistance to the City of Sanford, event organizers, and law enforcement agencies for the march and rally on March 31.”

Sharpton, who promoted the Tawana Brawley hoax in the 1980s and in 1995 led a protest against the “white interloper” owner of a Harlem clothing store that ended in a deadly shooting rampage at the store, was a featured speaker at the March 31 rally, called “The March for Trayvon Martin,” where he advocated for Zimmerman’s prosecution.

CRS expenditures related to the anti-Zimmerman protests continued through mid-April. Between April 11 and April 12, CRS spent $552.35 “to provide technical assistance for the preparation of possible marches and rallies related to the fatal shooting of a 17 year old African American male.”

Local government officials noticed the Department of Justice’s efforts in building “bridges of understanding” in Sanford.

“Congratulations to our partners, Thomas Battles, Regional Director, and Mildred De Robles, Miami-Dade Coordinator and their co-workers at the U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service for their outstanding and ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and build bridges of understanding and respect in Sanford, Florida,” wrote Amy Carswell, Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board Program Officer, in an April 16 email.

“Thank you Partner. You did lots of stuff behind the scene to make Miami a success. We will continue to work together,” DOJ official Thomas Battles wrote in reply to Carswell.

“That’s why we make the big bucks,” Carswell replied.

CRS was established by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. According to the CRS web page, “The Community Relations Service is the Department’s ‘peacemaker’ for community conflicts and tensions arising from differences of race, color, and national origin. Created by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, CRS is the only Federal agency dedicated to assist State and local units of government, private and public organizations, and community groups with preventing and resolving racial and ethnic tensions, incidents, and civil disorders, and in restoring racial stability and harmony.”

A Department of Justice spokesperson said that she did not know off the top of her head what CRS’ role was in the anti-Zimmerman protests but is currently trying to figure out that answer. The Daily Caller will update this story upon receiving a statement from DOJ.
