An Open Letter to California

 Why you should come for this one night.

If you are facing illness and you are suffering through the current medical quagmire, this is urgent news.  I want you to join me for an unforgettable night of hope and power.  Let me explain more.

I want to share what I have experienced with you.  My experience with the power of Christ to heal began in the most unlikely place and at the most unpromising time.   Mine was not a backwater encounter among the uneducated.   It was in the light of day on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley during the free speech movement.

Jesus himself said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father”-John 14:12.   Those words haunted me and challenged me to answer one of the greatest questions I would ever ask myself:  How do I reach this campus?

What happened to me next did not just breakthrough on campus, but it ended up taking me around the world declaring the greatest news that mankind has ever heard.  There is not enough room here to give you a detailed account of how the healings began.

What matters right now is that you can receive healing and you can satisfy your soul about the reality of God.

I am not asking you to embrace dead religion or a cult.  Reality does not need hype or manipulation.  I am asking you to trade just one night of your life to open your heart to God and let Him give you a miracle inside and out.

Why you should bring someone to this night.  If someone you love is suffering physical illness, bring them and let us pray for them to receive a miracle.  Think of all that they have endured to try to get well.  Instead of waiting for hours in a cold atmosphere let them experience a loving, joyous, faith-filled atmosphere.

If someone you know is unchurched and is honestly seeking to know that God is real, bring them.  My message that night will not just touch the needs of the body but also of the soul.  This is a perfect opportunity for them to receive a miracle in their soul.

Why you should come if you are a Christian who yearns for revival in the Bay Area.  The impact of this night does not end with just healing miracles.  An army of love and light is forming from many churches in the area who are seeking an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  It is our deepest wish and expectation that the power of this night will flow out to the entire Bay Area.

It all adds up to a simple fact:  This is a night you do not want to miss and you will be thankful for the rest of your life that you made the effort to be with us.

50 YEARS AGO A REVOLUTION BEGAN. WILL ANOTHER ONE START TODAY?

 

“There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can’t take part; you can’t even passively take part, and you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop”- Mario Savio.

With those words Mario Savio launched the free speech movement at Berkeley.  The fuse was lit on October 1 1964 when former graduate student Jack Weinberg was sitting at the CORE table. He refused to show his identification to the campus police and was arrested. There was a spontaneous movement of students to surround the police car in which he was to be transported. Weinberg did not leave the police car, nor did the car move for 32 hours. At one point, there may have been 3,000 students around the car. The car was used as a speaker’s podium and a continuous public discussion was held which continued until the charges against Weinberg were dropped.

It was a Thursday and at the same exact moment that the protests began in Berkeley something else began 12 miles southwest.  Galen Norsworthy, a pastor’s son was witnessing to me and daring me to go to church.  It was lunch time at Woodrow Wilson High School in San Francisco.

 

Galen’s words filled me with turmoil.  I knew I needed to give my life to Christ.  Berkeley’s revolution was outward mine was inward. Two revolutions began that very day and I had not an inkling of my destiny at Berkeley.

For the next 72 hours strange things happened.  Twin events culminated. While Jack Weinberg’s charges were being dropped my sins were being forgiven in a little Free Methodist church on Mission Street.  For the students at Berkeley it was a victory that poured jet fuel on the bonfire of student revolution.  For me it was the fire of the Holy Ghost that was birthing a worldwide ministry.

Then I came to Berkeley. Thousands met Christ and were healed during the decade I preached in Berkeley.

Today I return to the steps of Sproul Plaza where revolution began and where I preached during that revolution. Think of it!  This is on the 50^th anniversary of the free speech movement and the 50^th anniversary of my conversion to Christ.

What will happen when I once again stand on the steps of Sproul Plaza in front of thousands of students?  It is summed up in the words of Mario Savio who would no doubt violently disagree with my application of his words.   There is a machine in America and it is so odious that left unchecked it will destroy America within a few years.

 

I fully agree that Christians must refuse to take part in the machine of tyranny.  We do not cast ourselves upon the gears but upon Christ who can lead us to a revived America!

I thank God that Lou Engel and The Call has been invited to Berkeley for today!  I thank God for all of the students that invade Berkeley today.  But most of all, I thank God that we still have a chance to see a nationwide revival that will eclipse the Jesus Movement of the 1970’s.

There is a good reason why my mind is racing back to the night that someone tried to kill me in the U.C. Berkeley campus: Tonight, August 24th, 2016 we begin a two day crusade in a violent and addicted city.  We are bringing Living Proof to Salinas, California.

That is why my mind races back to the night on the Berkeley campus.  All that afternoon I paced and prayed on the hillside above the campus of 44,000 students.  Seeking God and asking “how do I reach a generation of students bent on Marxist revolution?”

One voice within me argued, “You must study the great modern apologists of the faith and give an intellectual defense of the faith.  Immerse yourself in the writings of Francis Schaeffer, C.S. Lewis, and G.K. Chesterton.”   The other voice said simply, “it is not by might nor by power but by my spirit.”

The answer came emphatically that night.  I was sharing my “apologetic faith” with a flower child in front of the Student Union Building of Cal Berkeley at about PM.  What I could not see, was the massive, angry radical stealing up behind me.

This atheist Goliath grabbed me by the neck and proceeded to choke the life out of me. the words of great Christian intellectuals were useless.  I am sure that young campus radical did not understand his rage against me.

The powers of darkness understood what was at stake: Miracle based soul winning is a grave threat and demons will stop at nothing to kill miracle ministry before it is born.

God ordered me to take my stand in the power of the Spirit. In my own faltering way I did.   My assailant suddenly stopped and stood stunned by something behind me in the shadows.  To this day I do not know what startled him, I only know that I ran, and as I ran I affirmed my commitment to the Supernatural Gospel of Christ.

We began telling people they could come and be healed.  But is that right?  Is it right to offer hope to those who medical science cannot help?  Is it right to raise expectations to those who have given up on everything else?

If what say we say about Christ’s power to save and heal is false, then me are as Paul said, the worst liars in history.  But if it is true and we do not offer it freely and publicly we are the worst traitors in history!

I am praying for God to use this letter to speak to leaders everywhere! I am convicted that Christ is speaking to us right now:  He is calling us to seek Him now.  Set a date at His bidding.  Prepare your people for signs and wonders.  Vow to give all glory to God.  Invite to public to come and see the awesomeness of our God!

Here is why it is true and why it is our solemn duty to present it to a skeptical world.  The world began to feel the power of the Gospel when Jesus stood and read these words from the book of Isaiah:  Luke 4: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

1. He was hanging out a shingle:   When you start a business you do what is called hanging out a shingle.    A Shingle is a small signboard that indicates a professional office. The world began to change when Jesus stood and read these words.

He was announcing the start and the content of His miracle ministry and He did it publicly.   Here are 6 targets of His ministry:

Give good news to the poor.

Heal the brokenhearted.

Proclaim liberty to the captives.

To recover the sight to the blind.

To set at liberty those who are oppressed.

To declare the time of God’s favored.

2.  He announces by what authority He is healing the sick.

“Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”  What an astounding statement that is!   Every Jew knew that verse.  Everyone in Israel has been waiting for that verse to be fulfilled and Jesus flat out says that He is fulfilling it. Talk about raising the hopes of the people!

Yet it is right that He does this so that the miracles can be released.  And that is precisely what the Church of Jesus should do.  We must go public about the resurrection of Jesus did to the works of Satan and all of the benefits of the Gospel.

3.  God was with Him in this project. Acts 10:38 says, “Jesus went about doing good healing all who were oppressed of the devil for God was with Him.  Jesus was not acting on His own initiative.

We continue Christ’s war on the works of Satan.  Public announcements are not an option!  We must set the time and the place that the Holy Spirit has designated for the supernatural to appear.

Having settled the question in Berkeley we announced our first healing rally.  I was such a raw recruit that I stood in front of the audience frozen in fear.

 I did not know how God rewards those who—at His behest—show up for war.

In the crowd was a young man lying unconscious on a couch at the back of the chapel.  He had shot a mixture of LSD and Heroin and it made him comatose.   Supernaturally, he woke up and his symptoms vanished.   He came to the front and knelt in utter adoration of God.   This single healing launched ten years of harvest on that university campus.

Now  we must go very public to America while there is still time.

Standing Against the Storm of Compromise.

 

Ours is not an obscure message that should be whispered in the secret places of society. 

We see things differently at Mario Murillo Ministries, mostly because of the way we were born. While still in high school I preached in the Haight-Ashbury, ground zero for the love and peace movement in San Francisco.  Moving to Berkeley sent us from the frying pan into the fire.  We were planted there for the next ten years.

For most of our early ministry, I rarely stood before an audience that actually wanted to hear what I had to say.  If this message had an iota of human origin, a speck of flaw in its nature or fantasy…the crucible of Berkeley would have blown it to smithereens.

Instead, unexplainable power appeared at each point where the ministry was threatened.  Something out of this world would always step in…providing words, resources, ideas and miracles exactly when we needed them.

Not once in that cauldron of revolution, did we feel the need to rebrand Christ or present a new and improved gospel.

For years there has been a rising tide calling for Christians to “keep your faith to yourself.”  Many modern pastors, including the Pope, have joined the chorus asking Christians, “to tone it down.”

Consequently, we have retreated into a cultural bubble where we do everything but preach the Gospel.  We have entertained, amused, inspired and distracted, but we have not converted America.  Because of this, the average Christian cannot defend their faith, marriage, or the Bible as the inspired word of God.

The original reason that the Church adopted this “indirect approach” was to get society to like us.  What we got was just the opposite.  Our compromised message has fueled greater contempt for the Church.

The media is now maligning the message of Jesus every day.  Francis Spufford said, “They think we believe in a load of Bronze Age absurdities. We promise the oppressed ‘pie-in-the-sky’ when they die; we are too stupid to understand why what we believe is irrational, and we are savagely judgmental.”

Atheists call us a threat to human progress.  Secular progressives condemn us as hating the poor, the homosexual and women.

How is it possible, that after all the work we put into removing the “offensive” parts of our message, that society is even more offended?  The answer is that there is a small but loud faction that hates Christ.  They are having their turn at the microphone because the hostility of the White House.

We violently, totally and utterly disagree with the notion that we should tone down the Gospel in America.  There are millions of innocent bystanders, who have not rejected Christ.  They are simply caught in the middle between haters telling lies, and the misfiring sermons of voices too timid to tell the truth.  We must take our message to these millions trapped in the middle. This is why the answer is not to “tone it down,” but to turn it up!

The same Holy Spirit that outfitted us to face the city of Berkeley will equip us to mount a fresh invasion of our nation.

Now let me get to the goal of this letter.  We have learned through every trial and breakthrough that God does not just give guidance, He also gives a plan.

We have a plan for 2017.  I can say without apology, that this plan has come to us from the Holy Spirit.  Again and again, the spirit of God has used events in the Bible as a model for what we should do. The verses below reveal a three-point plan that was given by an Angel to the disciples when the church was gravely threatened.

Acts 5: 17- 20 says, “But the high priest rose up and all who were his supporters, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and being filled with jealousy and indignation and rage, 18 They seized and arrested the apostles (special messengers) and put them in the public jail. 19 But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and, leading them out, said, 20 “Go, take your stand in the temple courts and declare to the people the whole doctrine concerning this Life” (the eternal life which Christ revealed.)

Embedded in those simple words, are our instructions for 2017.  Follow me as I describe to you the plan for touching America this year.

1. Take a stand. We cannot judge other ministries.  We can only answer for what God asks us to do.  He has ordered us to take a stand.  There is no confusion about what the Angel is asking the men of God to do.  He is telling them to stake their ground in their nation.  This is not just a physical act; it is also moral and spiritual. We must take a stand against Satan’s agenda for America and we must take a stand for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We take a stand because we belong in the national conversation.  America has a drug, divorce, suicide, anger, and atheism problem.  Our voice needs to be heard because we carry the most immediate and effective cure for everything that is hurting America.  The Angel is reinforcing to the disciples that their message is valid and urgent.

2. Take your stand in the temple courts. Ours is not an obscure message that should be whispered in the secret places of society.  The temple courts were the heart of Jerusalem.  The Angel is blatantly instructing them to raise their voice in the very center of their culture.

In that same way we must go where the people are and where the biggest lies are being told.  The angel gave them an exact location to take their stand and that location spoke volumes to the Apostles.  God is serious about making a difference in the culture.

3.  Tell all of the words of this life. What a scathing rebuke to popular Christianity.  While Christian celebrities scurry to and fro to find buzzwords to replace the core doctrines of the Bible, here is an Angel telling the disciples that they must tell all the words of life.  They cannot leave out a single benefit or demand of the message of Jesus Christ.

How right that Angel was.  There is life in those words.  There is life in the blood of Christ, the cross and the resurrection.  There is life in them so amazing that no mountain of eloquence or cunningly devised sermon can begin to match.

If only we would learn to brave the offense of the Cross in our preaching!  We would find that very soon the supernatural life of God would overtake our preaching and create miracles in people that infinitely surpassed the results of popular preaching.  Society would not care about the demands in our message because of the changes they would see in their souls, minds and bodies.

This is what we will do in 2017.  In city after city, we will take a stand in the heart of that city and tell all the words of this life.

Out of the ashes of American disaster: A miracle.

In this blog I want to finish what I said yesterday.  I expressed my deep concern that the  White House will do anything to win reelection.  Then I told you about having a supernatural reaction instead of being distracted.  Now I want to talk to you about why I believe a miracle is waiting in the wings.  Out of the ashes of American disaster will rise a miracle.

First, I want to ask you a big question, why should you listen to me?” Consider this: I went to Berkeley and collided with astounding hostility against the Gospel of Jesus for a decade.  It was hardcore, intellectual, and well organized.  God called me there to win souls, and see revival, but from every angle it was an utterly impossible task.

How God took our group on campus from a handful to two thousand strong is like a page out of the book of Acts.  But the most important result of my time on campus is only now coming to light.  This is because the intellectual deception that drives the White House was hatched in Berkeley.

The best example Berkeley/Chicago style radicalism is the way that they seized healthcare. Charles Krauthammer said,  “Obamacare passed the Congress without a single vote from the opposition party — in contradistinction to Social Security, the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Medicare and Medicaid, similarly grand legislation, all of which enjoyed substantial bipartisan support. In the Senate, moreover, Obamacare squeaked by through a parliamentary maneuver called reconciliation that was never intended for anything so sweeping.” Obamacare will give the government control over 1/6^th of the economy. Can you imagine where our economy and the church will be if we sign up for four more years of this?  

This is why I am bringing up Berkeley. In that bastion of leftist radicalism a miracle came out of nowhere.  .

I believe we are already seeing supernatural answers to prayer.  Despite the fact that our media is now part of the Obama reelection campaign, his approval continues to fall and mistakes he wanted hidden have been exposed. Was the microphone was left on accidently as Obama told the prime minister of Russia “This is my last election. After my election I [will] have more flexibility,” Obama continued. “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir [Putin]”?

God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah for just twelve righteous people.  America is home to millions upon millions of godly Christians who are working hard, raising children and faithfully paying their taxes and their mortgages.  They did not live above their means.  They did not take any bailout money.  They have not bowed their knee to the gods of abortion or gay marriage.  A child of three can see that if God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah for twelve righteous people then how much more we can expect God to spare the vast number of righteous Americans.

Yes the battle is great and the forces allied against us are strong, well organized, and fantastically financed.  We cannot compete on any human scale.  Do not entertain that thought…not even for a moment.  It is an exercise in futility and wastes precious time and resources.  This battle belongs to God!

All of this can backfire on the devil because he always goes too far.  Here are some examples:

Persecution is waking up a giant. The American church has been deeply divided and isolated from itself and the outside world for years.  The recession, political correctness, and the overreach of government  has caused pastors to pray together awakened them to stop preaching a compromised gospel. Blatant attacks are always a mistake against the church of Jesus.  It reminds of our joy, authority and the reality of the supernatural.

Millions of youth are under the radar.  Because it is a great threat to their agenda, the media is not reporting the growing spiritual hunger of our youth.  Vast numbers of them are migrating back to youth groups and churches, and the surprising thing is that they are drawn to on fire churches and not to the hi-tech designer churches.

God is in a miracle working mood.  Never in 44 years of preaching have I heard or seen such dramatic healings in such abundance. A vast blanket of signs and wonders is covering us now and reports are pouring in from everywhere of healing.

It may seem right to buy a cabin in the woods and load it with survival food, but before you do consider what I say.  You  will be distracted from  the great harvest of souls that is coming.  You would forfeit the greatest intimacy with God you have ever known. You will miss the Grace of God that would have made you strong in impossible situations.  You will miss the great anointing that God will grant to every one of His soldiers in the hour of testing!  You would be sidelined in the church’s finest hour.
