The Surprise in San Francisco

A stunning rebuke to watered down Christianity came from an unlikely place: San Francisco.

It was my honor to partner with Chris Burns and the amazing army that formed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love in Golden Gate Park.  THE SOUND was an outreach of many powerful worship artists, dynamic speakers, and a committed core linked hearts to bless the city.  But one thing that happened has wide implications to all believers. A scientific experiment will help you appreciate what I mean.

Biologists put a thick pane of glass in the middle of a large rectangular aquarium.  After filling it with water, they stocked it with small fish on one side of the glass barrier and their natural predator on the other.

Over and over, the larger fish slammed into the invisible barrier trying to feed on the smaller fish.  This went on for days until they gave up.  Then, the scientists removed the glass divider and saw something remarkable: The predators behaved as if the barrier was still there—they didn’t try to eat the small fish. They didn’t even try to go to the other side of the tank.

When we think of San Francisco—and rightly so—we think of smug, anti-God intellectual, lovers of pleasure.  We also think of youth—hard wired, by activist educators, to reject Christ. The church is conditioned not to fish here. There’s your glass pane.

In outreach after outreach, Mario Murillo Ministries has never acknowledged a glass barrier in San Francisco.  It was true again on July 6th and 7th when we joined forces with Chris Burns to win souls in the city.

Holy Ghost boldness overtook me.  I preached an unvarnished soul-winning message.  I refused to employ verbal gymnastics to appeal to a sophisticated culture.

Why—if this place is so hard—did so many respond, so immediately, to a direct gospel appeal?  Nothing was sugar-coated.  It was no credit to oratory.  It was a simple case of hungry and hurting souls reaching out to Jesus—because He was offered to them.

The pictures tell you how many came forward.  Even more astounding was the report Chris gave me about the invasion the next day: “We saw hundreds saved as we took over Golden Gate Park.”

Time and time again, I’ve warned the American church…there is a great harvest in our nation, even in San Francisco.  And…if there is a harvest in San Francisco, how much more in the rest of America?

Fish treading water refusing to eat is ridiculous; preachers refusing to harvest is beyond ridiculous—it is an embarrassment to our cause.  Watered-down, apologetic, murky preaching is a grandiose, inexcusable, waste of time.

Here is the giant question: why are so many Americans so hungry for Christ now?  The answer is simple: our culture made them miserable—a culture created by an elite core of power brokers.  It might be Hollywood; it might be our—hell-bent on telling Americans what to think—media.  They dictate what we should believe, what is good for us, what is right behavior and finally, what would make us happy. None of it works.

Social prophets bludgeon us with progressive platitudes and put a muzzle on any opposing voice.  Group think is the only way Americans can believe patently stupid contradictions: free speech is a threat to freedom—open marriage deepens commitment—suicide is victory—violence is love.

They can control almost everything, but one thing they cannot control: the damage on the soul—the vacuum that hi-tech selfishness creates—the misery of trying to endure on medicated self-pity.

The American church is bitterly failing a generation because we are still hoodwinked by an old model.  We still see the reluctant seeker—the spiritual looky-look.  We don’t see the desperate hearts that grope in darkest America.

We are failing a generation because we are not stronger than our excuses.  The empty calories served up on Sunday morning are a tribute to denial.  They deny the power of the Gospel, and they deny the hunger of the people.  Half-cures are now irrelevant.

The compromised church isn’t the only problem.  Some churches are just strange. There are pastors who pull their hair out trying to understand why new visitors don’t come to church.  They never consider that their shenanigans are weird to outsiders and their members are too embarrassed to invite friends.

When their bizarre and self-serving antics make visitors walk out, they smugly assume they are under conviction.  No…they just think we’re crazy.

The crushing heartbreak is that both these extremes—with their useless methods—continue to be celebrated.  Meanwhile, a nation dies, and lost souls go into eternity.

Every day, Satan sells a new drug that kills kids faster.  Every hour, a new perversion twists the minds of our children.

Mario Murillo Ministries walks the tightrope of the radical middle.  The tepid church rejects us because we preach fire and operate under Holy Spirit unction.  The hyper-emotional church rejects us because we use rigid discipline to keep it real for lost souls.

Right now, I should be rejoicing over the harvest in San Francisco, instead, it ignites fire in my bones.  Millions want the power the Gospel offers.  Leftists lie about it, and Christians misrepresent it.  Nevertheless, I am filled with hope.

There is a story of 4 brave lepers that mirrors the experiment about the fish:  God had scared the enemy away but the city under siege didn’t realize it.  2 Kings 7: 7 “Therefore they arose and fled at twilight, and left the camp intact—their tents, their horses, and their donkeys—and they fled for their lives.  And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it. 9 Then they said to one another, ‘We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent.’”

All the resources to save a starving city sat unused.  The army they feared was gone.  They simply didn’t bother to check the enemy’s camp.  The same is true now.  God keeps everything ready that we need to reach America.  If only we would see that and act on this great promise.

Mario Murillo Ministries is not going to sit and wait for squeamish theologians to figure out how hungry Americans are for Jesus; and how much provision stands ready for those who will rightly divide the Word of God.  The harvest in San Francisco is only the beginning of surprises that God has in store.  Come with us on this great adventure.

SOMETHING HAS CHANGED

By Mario Murillo

Last night in Yuba City we saw great miracles and a great harvest but something else happened…a change, a big change and it is taking place in many parts of America.

Something has changed in America—it is a massive change.  Before I tell you what it is, I must take you back to one night 600 years before Christ was born.  That was when this exact same change happened before. That was the night that Nebuchadnezzar was scared out of his wits.

No one could imagine anything that could scare Nebuchadnezzar.  He was not only the most powerful man on earth but one of the most powerful in all of history.  Yet, on this night he had a dream that terrified him so completely—he lost his power to sleep, eat and even think.

His personal panic spread to all of Babylon.  The every magician, seer and mystic was summoned.  Read the following verses and see if you can find the colossal change.

Daniel 2: 4 Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will give the interpretation.” 5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “My decision is firm: if you do not make known the dream to me, and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made an ash heap.6 However, if you tell the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts, rewards, and great honor. Therefore tell me the dream and its interpretation.”

Do you see it?  Do you see the rule change?  These spiritual advisors had long enjoyed the King’s favor.  The King had enriched them for their flattering prophecies.  Now the king needed a real answer.  Fear had altered the royal landscape.

The mystics were stunned and made a revealing comment in verse 10: “The Chaldeans answered the king, and said, “There is not a man on earth who can tell the king’s matter; therefore no king, lord, or ruler has ever asked such things of any magician, astrologer, or Chaldean.”   This had never happened before.  Demanding that they tell him (the King) what he dreamed totally blew their cover and they knew it.  They were now irrelevant.  They had no real power.

Now Daniel steps into the vacuum displaying courage as great as his night in the lion’s den:  Verse 16 So Daniel went in and asked the king to give him time, that he might tell the king the interpretation. 17 Then Daniel went to his house, and made the decision known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, 18 that they might seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 19 Then the secret was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. So Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

Daniel was moved to the front of the line.  He stood before the baffled and anxious king with great power.  A politically incorrect religion rose from the ashes.  He told the king the dream and its interpretation.

The death of Prince the musician is a terrible tragedy.  He might be alive if there was a Daniel in his life.  Prince enjoyed vast adulation.  He had great power, wealth and honor.  None of that stopped fear from gripping him. He suffered major stage fright and used drugs to face his audiences.  When he suffered severe pain from years of dancing he combined drugs for pain and anxiety.  No one was there to interpret his nightmare.

What happened to Prince is happening to millions of Americans in different ways.  The national nightmare is so great that heroin addiction has increased 51% in just 24 months.  The anger you see

Not long ago witnessing was a hate crime.  You could talk about mysticism, Islam and even Satanism but the Gospel was hate speech.  The social justice warriors saw to it that any and every reference to the Bible and Jesus Christ would be censured as homophobic, sexist, transphobic and racist.

However, the nightmare is changing the rules again!  Hollywood stars like Sylvester Stallone, Tim Allen and others openly admit that they have cried out to Christ and received life and do not care who knows it or what it would do to their career.

It will soon get so real that ministers who hold back the powerful themes of the Gospel will look ridiculous.  Society is saying ENOUGH!  ENOUGH, they say, “of telling us not to pray, not to believe and not to accept the deity of Jesus.”

The masses are demanding a potent—direct, unapologetic Gospel.  Like Daniel in the Bible—just when it seemed that truth was banned the heart of the culture—an earthquake has come to open the prison doors and given a platform for anyone who will preach the truth wholeheartedly in the love and power of the Holy Spirit.

Tonight we will go to greater and unknown heights of the Glory of God!  Tonight and all three nights, Chris Burns will ignite worship and set the stage for signs and wonders.

Why you should come if you are a Christian who yearns for revival in Northern California.  The impact of these nights does not end with just healing miracles.  An army of love and light is forming from many churches in the area who are seeking an outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  It is our deepest wish and expectation that the power of these nights will flow out to the entire Northern California area.

It all adds up to a simple conclusion:  These are nights you do not want to miss.

NOW READ ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS TODAY

Yuba now

Friday night June 12, 2015. The temperature at 7 PM is 106 degrees and we are in a tent. I thought that the scorching heat would kill out attendance. Instead, it becomes the biggest night, with the greatest harvest.

The city that leads California in so many categories of misery saw a great light.  Living Proof is just the name of an outreach until God jumps in and makes it reality.

What healings happened that night?  You name it.  Cancer, diabetes, emphysema, and a host of life threatening diseases have vanished before the mighty hand of God.

Churches cancelled services to join together at the tent.  They rounded up those who needed Christ or a healing miracle.

They converged on the tent at the Fairgrounds.  Yuba City Mayor John Dukes opened with a mighty prayer and introduced me to the crowd.  A mayor and an evangelist standing together to bring life to a city—think of that!

The harvest in Yuba City was a resounding slap in the face to experts who say American Youth want nothing to do with Christianity.

So much power radiated the Fairgrounds that for weeks lost souls and addicts came to the grounds hoping the tent was still there.  We had to send workers there to harvest souls who were still coming.

Today we begin the next phase of the miracle in Yuba City.  Many of you know we are in the midst of a tour of California.   We said, “No more apologetic meetings.  No more nights where we get together and hope that something happens.  The stage is set.  Prayers have bombarded heaven.  There are boots on the ground and fire in hearts. There is no confusion in our goal:  Win the lost and heal the sick.

We have already seen historic results in San Jose and Manteca.  Today we hit Yuba City for 3 days.

Every revival has an ignition point.  In Yuba City, it is The Bridge of Yuba City, led by Jim and Kristine Carpenter, and Church of Glad Tidings, led by Dave and Cheryl Bryan.  It takes every last drop of faith to keep a church strong in the Yuba City/Marysville area. They did not get involved because it was convenient or even practical.  It was a sacrifice based on a passion for God to heal our land.  I want to thank them for their amazing act of love.

Pastor Jim Carpenter said this about the impact of Living Proof in Yuba City: “There is a dramatic shift in the atmosphere of our region.  Sleepy churches have been jolted by the signs and wonders; the streets feel the change; people who were walking by the tent to go get their drugs were instead pulled inside by the unseen hand of God and delivered. This community will never be the same.”
