When you read the headline that “10,000 Christians” signed a petition to remove Franklin Graham from the ministry, what did you think? Did you get the impression that he had done some great evil—and many of his supporters want him out?
The fake news media squealed with delight as they spread this story. But the headline is very misleading. This vicious attack—sneaking in under a “Christian” banner—is just slander. How do I know this? Well, wait until you hear who organized the petition.
The group is called Faithful America. How do I put this lovingly? Faithful America has a very twisted view of what Jesus taught. For instance they believe that you—yeah, I am talking about you—are immoral for supporting President Trump. Think of them this way: They are to Christianity what the Flat Earth Society is to geography.
Though called ‘Faithful America’, this group is–in my opinion–neither faithful nor American.
Here’s what they say about themselves on their website: “We work together for immigrant and refugee rights, climate justice, and full LGBTQ inclusion, among other important social, economic, and racial justice causes that reflect the values Jesus taught.” Their reflection is coming from a broken mirror. Certainly not the Bible.
Now you know why the petition got a lot of signatures…it’s not just leftist-Christians, but anti-God, Trump haters jumping on the bandwagon.
Here is the crime they said Franklin Graham committed: “The final night of the 2020 Republican convention began with a partisan appearance from notoriously homophobic preacher Franklin Graham, who prayed, ‘“I thank you tonight for our President, Donald J. Trump…in the mighty name of your Son.”’
Franklin has been totally silent about this petition. I know why. He shouldn’t answer questions about this any more than he should answer questions about unicorns.
So then why am I commenting?
First, because we need to stand with Franklin Graham. He is a heroic figure in our nation and the world. He has endured a walk of faith few of us will ever understand. I can’t imagine stepping into his father’s shoes, as he has. He has handled it better than any human since Joshua replaced Moses.
Franklin Graham had the Biblical understanding, courage, and discernment to go against the grain of lukewarm and false Christianity, and to take a very unpopular but necessary stand. I thank God for Franklin because he has acquitted himself with grace, courage, and integrity. Franklin has done God, his dad, and all of us proud. And he continues to do it every day in many unsung ways.
