The Power: Session One of Living Proof World Convention

SHOT 2 copy

Circumstances beyond our control have turned this convention into an emergency meeting. We are not here to get blessed.  We do not have that luxury.  We are not here to experience exotic things in the supernatural.  We can no longer afford exotic experiences.  We are here tonight to receive power, power like we never experienced before, power to turn a nation around.

I am certain that many of you have compelling needs.  However, I am asking you to put aside those needs so that you may be turned into another person, a person fit for this hour.  I am asking you to set aside the things that burden your heart that you may experience what is burdening the heart of God the Father.

Beloved, tonight I stand before you to plead for you to see a threat, a threat so grave that we are nearly out of time to stop disaster.  America is nearly finished.  She is being killed the only way she could ever be killed… from the inside.  Truly, Abraham Lincoln was right when he said, “If destruction be our lot we ourselves must be the author and finisher of it.”

As I speak, we have a man in the White House who seems bent on our destruction.  He has run up a debt that neither we nor or children can pay.  He has weakened our military.  He is strangling us with a medical octopus that now controls 15% of our economy.  He favors Islam over Christianity and cannot contain his contempt for Israel.  In short, he favors everything that will take God’s blessing and protection off of America.

I do not fear for Christianity, I fear for America.   Jesus said that the gates of hell would not prevail against the church.  Christianity will survive without America but America will not survive without Christianity.

I am also here to recruit you to be a part of our Living Proof Crusades.  These are citywide events that are ordained of God to introduce a new generation to Christ the miracle worker.

Let us begin by repenting of our greatest sin.  Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to run the Church, grow the Church.  He was sent to make us effective and relevant to the culture.

We are guilty of taking away His authority and running the church by our own wits.  We have failed miserably.  Sadly, even failure has not stopped men from controlling the things of God.

Are we are guilty of hypocrisy?  How dare we condemn America for taking God out of our institutions while we ban the Holy Spirit from moving in our meetings?   The have written counsels and briefs against God but we create programs that suffocate the supernatural and crowd out any possibility of the Holy Spirit moving and speaking to the church.

Yet some will say, “But Mario, look at the success of the seeker model.”  If your definition of success is a crowd then yes they have succeeded, but if your definition of success is a moral change in the culture then these models are epic failures because on their watch America has had the largest and fastest moral decline in history.

Tonight we are just one group out of millions, but I believe that if we repent tonight we will receive fresh fire!

How do we get the power?  We must retrace our steps.  We must do what Elijah did on Mount Carmel.  He patiently, tenderly picked up the stones and rebuilt the altar of Israel that was torn down.   Indeed, he could have saved the trouble by using the gleaming altar of Baal that the false prophets had just built.

But Elijah knew that fire would not fall on that altar!  That is an essential truth tonight.  We cannot have a gathering based on slick ideas we borrowed from Madison Avenue. We must put the stones back and build an altar that God will honor with fire.

Here it is stone by stone:

  1. Ask and wait for power. Do it over and over again.  Acts 1:4, “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, ‘which,’ He said, ‘you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’ 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, ‘Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?’ 7 And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.’”  Jesus did not say go to Jerusalem and organize Christianity.  He said to wait for power.

Do it again!  In Acts 4 Peter recognized a new threat to the church and once again gathered the saints to receive power.  Acts 4:29, “Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

Wait until you receive power.  We know that this casino will want us out of here eventually, but we would be justified in waiting all night.  Those who believe God must instantly honor our prayers are deluded by modern church entitlement.   We must seek, utterly convinced that power is coming, but at the same time brutally committed to wait as long as it takes.

  1. Realize that power has a purpose. The Holy Spirit does not dole out power to the highest bidder or the loudest prayer. He anoints people with power for a reason.

Luke 4: 18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

If God sees you want no part of the warfare, refuse to touch the unlovely, and simply do not want to deal with your local human tragedy then He will skip over you and find the burning one.

If you are not willing to speak truth to power you will not be anointed.  How can someone want to be a prophet who refuses to rebuke the King?

The 9 gifts of the Spirit are like a heat seeking missile.  They have an aiming device.   2 Corinthians 10:4, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.”  How can expect gifts of power if you want nothing to do with strongholds of Satan?

  1. Discern the times.  1 Chronicles 12: 32, “of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, The yoke and the anointing are the overpowering forces that rule every generation.”  Every generation is governed by two polarities:  The Yoke and the Anointing.

The Yoke is the current weapon of mass slavery.  The Anointing is the unique weapon designed to destroy the yoke.

In every generation hell belches out a new weapon of mass destruction.  Heaven is neither passive nor taken by surprise.  God creates a weapon of choice by the anointing.  Then He seeks that one who will take up that weapon in the Name of Jesus and thrust it into the heart of darkness.

It is all summed up in the words of Samuel to Saul: 1 Samuel 10:6, “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you.”

However, in every generation, the fuse for revival is unique and demands an original surrender. We believe that we are being calibrated for our part in the grand finale of all revivals; the greatest global outpouring and harvest of souls ever.  The Azusa Street Revival began six days before the great San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906.  This revival of Pentecost grew to over 420 million people by 1992.  We believe that convulsions in nature and revival have a mysterious connection. We also believe that something bigger than Azusa Street is on God’s calendar for the near future.  Now let’s wait for power!

P.S. We have added space for all.  No registration is now required just show up early.  Tuesday March 31st 11 AM and 7:PM

How Religion Is Making a Comeback on College Campuses

How Religion Is Making a Comeback on College Campuses

By  Douglas and Rhonda Hustedt Jacobsen

A dramatic shift in the global landscape has made religion a pressing issue on college campuses again. Douglas and Rhonda Hustedt Jacobsen, authors of  No Longer Invisible: Religion in University Education.

  • One in three Americans under the age of 30 reports being religiously unaffiliated, so it may be a surprise to learn that religion is making a comeback on American campuses. It’s not that campuses have become holy places, and religious zealots are not calling the shots. But religion is no longer marginalized from campus life as it was in the late 20th century. A generation ago, many Americans and most colleges and universities could live with the myth that religion was a purely private matter, but today no one questions that religion can have powerful effects on individuals and societies.

During the last four years, we crisscrossed the country visiting more than 50 colleges and universities as directors of Religion in the Academy project. We spoke with hundreds of faculty, administrators, and students about all the ways they are now engaging religion, and we came away from those conversations with a new sense that adding religion to the mix—in the form of new student life programming, but also in the curriculum, in study centers and programs of research, and in community engagement—can be a net educational gain for everyone.

Today’s interest in religion comes from the bottom up—a significant change from the past. From the colonial days through the 19th century, religion was typically imposed on students from the top down. Now, students themselves are driving a re-engagement with religion. Religion, for them, is not necessarily the old-fashioned “organized” religion handed down to them by their elders, but rather a personal exploration of meaning, purpose, values, and global diversity—something that many of them would call “spirituality” rather than “religion.”

Cadets at the Air Force Academy in Colorado are seen walking past the Chapel at the academy.
Some institutions are excited about this new engagement; others are worried. We found that younger professors are almost always more interested in the topic of religion than their more senior colleagues who completed academic training in the secular heyday of the late 20th century. This does not mean that younger faculty members are necessarily more favorably disposed to religion, but they are more comfortable discussing it. They have grown up in a world where religion is part of everyday news, and where the influences of religion in public and personal life seem obvious.
We also found that elite schools tend to be less open to reengaging religion than non-elite schools. When the general education review committee at Harvard recently suggested adding a course on “faith and reason” to graduation requirements, the university backed off after resistance from some faculty members. By contrast, community colleges often welcome engagement with religion, in part because they serve so many students who still live at home, embedded in their own local faith communities, and who naturally bring religious questions into the learning process.

I have seen all of this before. All of the elements are right but we can still blow it.

“Do not think for one moment that the current anger and frustration with government is just a political thing.  Below the surface is a much deeper and more important phenomenon within our youth. This next big thing is largely being ignored by the media.  It is my conviction that within this anger lays the great secret weapon of the Holy Spirit.”

I said those words two years ago.  That was when I first noticed all of the same elements that led to the Jesus Movement happening again. Starting in 1969, God flooded the vacuum of the youth culture in California with an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It spread until millions were saved across our nation within a few years.

In 1970, I started Resurrection City, a student outreach on the Berkeley Campus. I remember the anger, chaos, and violent changes that were pushing American Youth to extremes.  Berkeley was the vanguard of the world wide student revolution but God had other ideas. We started with 15 students but by the time the revival hit, we were 2,000 strong.

The Jesus Movement was a Lamb Revival but this one is a Lion Revival. The Bible shows us the two natures of Jesus: He is both a lamb and a lion.  Again, the Jesus Movement of the 1960’s and 70’s was a lamb revival because society needed a gentle dose of love and peace.

But Jesus also is a Lion.  This awakening that has now begun is a lion revival.  Let’s see why. Joel 2:28 says, “I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and daughters will prophesy.”  The Jesus movement while widespread  and astonishingly effective, did not prophesy.  In other words,  they were evangelistic but not prophetic.  In essence a portion of Joel’s prediction came in the 70’s but a very important aspect of it has not yet been fulfilled: The prophetic. Our sons and daughters have not yet prophesied…at least not until now!

Not a day goes by without a report of youth being saved across America.  The majority of those who came forward at our last meeting were youth. I have no doubt that many who will read this know of some outpouring going on right now on our youth.  I wish you would report it to us!

The pressure has been building up for years now.  Thousands of youth have been overflowing schools where signs and wonders are imparted.  Youth movements are blazing all across our nation but they have largely stayed in the safe zones.  Thousands of churches now have youth singing loud, fierce war choruses that are the polar opposite of the songs of the Jesus Movement.  Fire is everywhere.  But until now it has not translated into a massive harvest of souls in America.  This is also for a good reason.

This massive, unified, gifted and mighty young army was still forging its message, sharpening the edge of their prophetic message to America.  They have been building up their zeal like screaming atoms in a linear accelerator.  All at once hell is feeling their wrath.

These youth do not bear a consoling message.  They are to prophesy to a Godless nation that has shamefully abandoned the roots of her greatness. They are to raise up the foundations of righteousness that have been ripped up.  They are digging in deep wells of Glory and the gusher is coming forth now. They will prophesy to dry bones and an army will reconstruct, stand and march!  They will not cower to prophesy against religious hypocrisy, or political corruption!

We can still blow this great opportunity.  We can orphan this movement by trying to hold on to tradition and control.  Their music, dress and mannerisms will offend some.  I have seen all of that before.  We must not be old wineskins.  We must be stretched to realize that we can reject this move of God.

David Wilkerson was one of my greatest heroes.  He was an uncompromising prophet and seer who was way ahead of his time.  I would go and hear him preach whenever I could.  I had the honor of picking him up at LAX and taking him to meetings at Melodyland.  However, he reacted and spoke out against the long hair and the music of the Jesus Movement.  Later, he realized his grave mistake and lamented the fact that he had discouraged a movement that he should have fathered.  He went on to have massive youth revival crusades that were instrumental in igniting the nationwide Jesus Movement

Already I see key mistakes being repeated.  Revivals fires are being panned when they should be fanned.  Shame on those who confuse their tradition with the Word of God.  They have not bothered to check what the Bible really says.

My next blog is about how we can embrace, father and enlarge this great revival in our nation.
