It’s a real movement and there are even real t-shirts you can buy. They say things like, “Christians Against Trump” or “Loyal To Christ Not Trump.” Presumably, if they are Christians who are against Trump, they are also against the Christians who are for Trump. I am not trying to be technical, it’s just a fact. The reason I begin with that, is so you will know that I am not picking on them—they are picking on us.
They are saying and doing things against believers who support Trump and I find that disgraceful. It is one thing to disagree with Trump, but quite another to impugn the character of Trump supporters.
Since there is nothing uglier than a family fight, I am writing this under extreme duress and with reluctance. However, the situation is too grave to allow this attack to go unanswered.
What is wrong with these people? Let me answer that by introducing you to a personality type that is in sad abundance today: The ‘nattering nabob.’ These are people who suddenly and inexplicably turn against their own convictions just so they will look good to the other side. These three prominent men qualify currently: George W. Bush, Mitt Romney, and John Kasich.
Nattering Nabobs spout a lot of words, but you can’t follow them or make any sense of their diatribes. Today they are adamantly for what they were adamantly against, yesterday. And, as of now, they are vehemently opposed to what they were vehemently in favor of ten minutes ago. They make nonsensical arguments and feel exhilarated, while everyone else in the room looks on with bewilderment and, in many cases, pity.
The most classic feature of a nattering nabob, is that they have a complaint and a rant, but they provide no alternative for the problem. Incredulously, Bush is going to vote for Biden. Mitt Romney actually voted for the impeachment of Trump, and John Kasich, a Republican in name only, humiliated himself at the Democrat Convention by pandering to the enemies of freedom.
Underneath all their pomp is a hidden motive. Trump, in their view, has done them wrong. Bush saw his brother bashed. That means he can, with a clear conscience, support the socialist apocalypse and late term abortion he once hated. Mitt Romney, was snubbed by Trump, so he now feels justified in going against his former convictions. John Kasich is by far the saddest. His resentment gave way to a delirium where he is the only one in the room that doesn’t know how pathetic and ludicrous he is.
The same thing applies to these believers who bought the t-shirt. The most interesting thing about them comes when you ask them what they think is the alternative to Biden. They know the horror he represents. They know Biden celebrates everything a believer should find abhorrent. When you confront the “woke believer” for a solution to the problem, look closely and see if they don’t suddenly remind you of the times when Captain Kirk outsmarted an enemy computer that began to smoke and exclaim, “It does not compute!” Or you will hear ethereal platitudes better fit for a lecture on unicorns.
I get it. You find Trump offensive, my brother and sister in the Lord. I also get the cheap and easy acceptance readily available from the Left, and the stigma attached to standing against peer pressure.
But remember, President Trump stands with all evangelical Christians and supports Israel. He deserves your support. Why would you side with the enemies of America and God by voting against him?
I am not saying that Trump is a ‘type’ of Christ, but what I am saying is that Christ was a deliverance that the Jews found offensive. When Jesus saw that they despised their own deliverance He wept.
“Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation” Luke 19:41-44).
Can you honestly say you have asked God about Trump?
