Do you know anyone who lives near Reno? I am talking within 150 miles.
How can I ask such a question? That is a great distance. It would be a great sacrifice to bundle up a loved one who is fighting serious illness and bring them to the tent. The last thing I want to suggest is to endanger someone’s life. So how can I ask such a question?
The answer is…I know the power that will be under the tent. I know the prayer that has drenched the grounds we are pitching our tent on. I know what my spirit tells me: prepare for something unlike anything I have ever seen in my ministry.
It’s bigger than it looks! What a job Inner City Action did to get this tent up. And what a job my staff—led by Joshua Olmos—is doing to organize this vast outreach in Reno.
Let me add that this tent meeting will be the first time in our history that we will have 6 straight miracle rallies in our tent. I have never done that before. I have never felt a leading to do that.
Even as a young man, 6 straight miracle services would have been an incredible physical drain. That I am even contemplating such a thing is a testimony to how much God has touched my body with healing and restoration. However, the only thing that matters is the Holy Spirit has commanded this.
My conviction is God is doing this because of the intense despair of our time. Something drastic is needed at this hour and we must make room for strong medicine.
However, there is also something in the Bible that makes me ask you. Look at these amazing words: “And when they came out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him, ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.” – Mark 6: 54-56
Look closely at something…the words “surrounding region.” I am convinced that many walked incredible distances bearing loved ones on pallets. I would go so far as to say that it would easily be a greater exertion than driving 150 miles to Reno. What drove them was the fact that Jesus would be there. Sacrifice and expectation is a powerful combination of faith. Do it only if the voice of God compels you.
Years from now you will not remember how hard it was to get that loved one to the tent. I believe the only thing you will remember is their miracle. It all starts in 2 days!!! Call us at 775 238 3473
That was the loaded question hurled at me on Facebook when we announced Living Proof Reno.
My immediate reaction was to scream, “Jesus is the healer not me!” And to challenge the asker: “do you sincerely want an answer to your question? If you deeply yearn to know why Jesus doesn’t empty hospitals today—ask Him. If your heart is honest, He’ll answer you…but His answer will bring a whole lot more than you bargained for.”
I know this guy doesn’t want an answer…he just wants to bash my faith and our outreach. But maybe you want an answer.
The idea of everyone being healed at an event—hospital or otherwise—is not irrational or unreasonable and deserves to be understood. Especially when you consider these verses:
Matthew 12:15 “But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.”
Luke 6:19 “And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.”
Luke 9:11 “But when the multitudes knew it, they followed Him; and He received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God and healed those who had need of healing.”
So why don’t we see more miracles? There’s a big clue in the account of Jesus rebuking His hometown: “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in Your country.’” (in other words heal everyone) Then He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own country. But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.” -Luke 24: 23-27
They wanted a theatrical demonstration. They cheapened miracles. Jesus was repulsed at the thought of gifts of God being paraded like a side show. This was not unlike the blasphemy of the men of Sodom asking Lot to bring out the angels, so they could defile them.
Ordained roosters strutting their stuff on a church stage can have no part in miracles. In fact, they should be rebuked for asking for the gift! “Peter answered, may your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God.” -Acts 8:20,21
If you seek glamour and riches skip this message. If you are dazzled by people you have seen powerfully used, save us both time—do not seek miracle power—you have no heart for it.
Miracles are a messy, brutal, gut-wrenching—and yes, horrifying process. Frankly, seminars that nonchalantly promise to activate gifts are as dangerous as nuclear waste. Miracles, signs and wonders require constant self-denial and death to self.
Before our day of pay-per-view miracles and prophecy on demand, there were mighty vessels of God. I knew some of them. I saw the towering miracles in their meetings. I promise you, they were nothing like the shallowness you see today. Much of our approach to the supernatural would sicken them.
Let’s peel back misconceptions and be brutally honest. Mankind has been able to create mind-bending technological breakthroughs. We can now do in an instant what previously took decades…but we will never find a shortcut to supernatural power.
The Holy Spirit’s work never changes. His process of taking raw material and making a living breathing conduit of His power has never changed. In 2,000 years, it has not been shortened or compromised one iota.
Power always packs a purpose. Luke 4: 17 “And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
The most powerful part of those verses is this phrase: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because.” Your “because” ruins you for all other plans, purposes, and goals. You must surrender to the one thing you are assigned to do. You must be able to list your purpose, articulate it simply and clearly and execute it with extreme focus.
Our greatest need today is a heart full of the passion that moves God to answer the prayer for miracles. We love to blame all sorts of things for our lack of miracles when the answer is right under our nose—we just don’t want to meet God’s price. We can live without signs and wonders.
At this moment, I am getting ready for Reno. I can’t live without supernatural power. When I pray, I feel destiny. I hear God warning me: “what I will do under the tent in Reno will frighten you if you are not ready.” That’s why I am begging the soldiers of Jesus in this region to be ready—to go and get those who suffer in great sickness—to bring them to the tent.
What is the secret to the miracle-working power of God? Die to self and do the work of God. Jesus said, In John 14:12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.
To command devils and diseases you must first confess that these signs should always follow the preaching. Then abandon yourself to God’s process of imparting authority. E.M. Bounds said,“The preacher must throw himself–with all the abandon of a perfect, self-emptying faith and a self-consuming zeal–into his work for the salvation of men. The men who take hold of and shape a generation for God must be hearty, heroic, compassionate, and fearless martyrs.” -E.M. Bounds

Today, Mechelle and I prayed with the mayor of Reno. Cesar Minera who Pastors Word of Life in Reno organized a prayer caravan that encircled the city and culminated at city hall. We were proud to be a part of THE TRUCKEE MEADOWS PRAYER DAY. This was not an event that we put on. This event happens every year and we were honored to join hearts with the Body of Christ in Reno.
However, as you read this, local churches, outreach ministries, Inner City Action from Stockton, along with Mario Murillo Ministries, are combing the Reno/Sparks Nevada region. We are in the homeless camps—not just with food and clothing but a powerful witness. We are inviting the entire community. You can already see our posters in store windows. We are handing out tens of thousands of cards.
Are the windows of heaven opening over Reno and Sparks Nevada? A growing number of local leaders sense it. There’s something special about this moment. There are powerful indicators: The region was bathed in prayer today—we saw unprecedented support and unity at our leader’s meeting August 4th—the city has given us a prime site in the heart of downtown Reno.
Now let me talk to you about that prime site: It’s 700 Sutro Street. Our tent will be visible from interstate 80. That means anyone who drives through Reno will see our tent. Our tent will cover most of the lot, so the city has given us permission to use large parking lots that surround the site. FAVOR!
Teams of intercessors will be walking this sacred ground between now and the start of our Living Proof Crusade. They will ask for signs and wonders to explode on the people. They will ask that cars driving past will feel the tractor beam of God’s love, pull off the interstate and come in the tent. Please agree with us for mighty miracles!
Here’s the most urgent part of my letter: It is a fact of war that when armies are stymied, a breakthrough anywhere can turn the tide of the war. Just the report of a decisive victory anywhere can ignite the morale of an entire army.
This means that even if you don’t live anywhere near Reno you need to pray fervently for this outreach. It does not matter in which city the American Awakening starts. Lord, just let it start!
Now I am talking to anyone who lives near the Reno/Sparks region. Christians have evangelized for thousands of years. In that time, knowledge and technology has exploded. Yet, two forces remain omnipotent: prayer and the personal invitation.
I know, because I have won souls for over 50 years, starting at U.C. Berkeley and in the Bay Area. Nothing will ever replace the power of prayer, and word of mouth. I can’t stress this enough: pray and bring someone to the tent!
Mark 6: 55 says, “they ran through that whole surrounding region and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was.” That last phrase says it all!
Under the tent, there will be wonderful music, powerful messages and surprises. But, the greatest reason to bring people is because we know Jesus will be there.
All seats are free. Remember, we’ll start at 6 PM on Sunday and at 7 PM Monday-Friday. Let’s us pray for those you are bringing for healing or deliverance. Call us at 775 238 3473. I can’t wait to see you at the tent and I can’t wait to tell our partners across America what is happening under the tent! -Mario Murillo
