A religious spirit has been unleashed. This devil is beating church leaders down to a docile lump. Preachers who once stood against sin and persecution, are letting the Bride of Christ turn into the battered wife of the State.

The ban on singing in church is both wholly illegal and unenforceable. Disobeying it is a no-brainer. But many preachers can’t even draw the line here. Read this giddy and submissive letter to church members from a Spirit-filled denomination that has over 1,300 churches in California:

“We will worship this Sunday without singing our praise to God. We were strongly encouraged by our ____________ denominational head to follow the strictest guidelines which in California has a ban on singing. Thank you for your understanding. We trust we will be able to sing in worship to God soon.”

Several reactions come to mind. First, who are they trusting to allow them to worship God soon? Second, Daniel prayed anyway, despite the decree of authority. Peter preached anyway, after being ordered to be silent. But we can’t bring ourselves to sing, anyway?

How have we fallen for such a ridiculous attack? Because, the religious spirit is the most powerful in Satan’s army. The religious spirit is the worst—the vilest—the most potent of devils. Why? Because its assignment is not the world, but the church itself.

Demons are working the streets to foment riots, killing, and chaos. The religious spirit works on the inside of the church, particularly among preachers, to permanently render them powerless. It is this demon of religion that blinds us to the towering injustice being levelled at us. This ban is the most insane double-standard ever.

Democrat Governors and Mayors encourage BLM marches and demonstrations, but church singing is banned because it supposedly spreads viral vapors. But aren’t vapors present when BLM marchers are shouting things like “kill the cops” at the top of their lungs, as they march shoulder to shoulder?

Bill de Blasio has this explanation for the madness, “Calls for social justice (by which he means marches) were too important to stop.” The message here is that the church, worshiping God, is not important. They are sending the message, “Don’t sing. We can tell you to do whatever we want.”  But, if we, as the church, can’t draw a line in the sand now, when will we? How far are we going to let them go?

It is this religious devil that makes preachers comply. It is working hard to make traitors out of preachers. Matthew Henry predicted it when he wrote concerning those who were “settled teachers in the church, and had gained reputations as such, but afterward betrayed the truth they had taught, and revolted (turned back) to error…”

He goes on to explain why such a preacher is a prize: “and from such the danger is the greater, because least suspected. One false traitor in the garrison may do more mischief than a thousand avowed enemies (outside).” The damage a preacher can do in this condition is frightening.

There are 3 things a religious spirit brings.

  1. A Hypocritical Spirit. “There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him”” (John 3:1-2).

Nicodemus admitted the miracles of Jesus were undeniable. He and all the Jewish leaders knew who Jesus was. Yet, he came to Christ under the cover of night. Neither he nor the other leaders would take a stand for the truth. They knew the rejection and ridicule they would face. Likewise, a devil whispers in the ear of preachers that they must comply with stupid laws, rather than risk ridicule.

  1. A Territorial Spirit. They must hold onto their place (position). The religious devil drives ministers to protect their place, and their turf. After the resurrection of Lazarus, the religious leaders did not see it as an astounding miracle, only a political threat.

“Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, “What shall we do? For this Man works many signs. If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place (position) and our nation.” Notice the first thing they worried about was their place, not the nation (John 11:47-48).

This demon makes a man think about his salary, prestige, and his control of people. His first love is gone. His priority is self-preservation. They will not oppose the ban on singing, because they are afraid of losing their place.

“When the profession of Christianity begins to cost men dear, then shall many be offended…” -Matthew Henry.

  1. Hatred against their own roots. Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.” Everyone was rejoicing, except the leaders. Their Jewish heritage is one of miracle after miracle, but not only were they not rejoicing over this miracle, they wanted to kill Jesus! (Matthew 12:13)

A religious demon drives a minister to hate what he used to love, even to oppose his first love. A religious spirit can actually make a man who once loved the move of God become boiling mad at people who are obeying God, or pressing toward revival.

We all know that 2020 is the year that Satan launched the highest tide of evil in American history. Wave after wave has struck our nation, with the intention of destroying us. Now, the greatest devil of all is at work—the religious spirit among leaders. This devil has come to destroy the people of God from within.

There is nothing worse than to see devils controlling a man that God once used.  And there is nothing more glorious than seeing men and women of God rise up in the Name of Jesus and send this religious devil back to the pit of hell.

It is time for the church of Jesus Christ to sing louder!

P.S. A Special message to all of our friends from Mario Murillo Ministries

Why do we offer you books? It is certainly not to blunt the impact of the message you just read. In fact, these books reinforce the message we are trying to spread. More on that in a moment.  So, why do we offer them to you?
When the pandemic closed our tent crusades, church meetings and rallies, the Holy Spirit commanded Mario to keep our staff on at full salary, and trust Him. He obeyed and God has provided. But another thing the Holy Spirit grants are wise ideas. And we needed one. That is when the War Chest Collection was born.
If you look at the page you will see no advertising. And there never will be. And if you get our newsletter you will see that we have stopped raising money for projects we can’t do right now. But even that was not good enough for us.
In this pandemic we needed something that was truly a win-win situation. We prayed for something that would help the people, and us, that was not a garish fund raiser.
Then, we remembered how John Wesley taught his young preachers to always bring books with them that would help the people. Why not then, at a time when people have time to read, offer them something that will empower them and at the same time keep us strong and ready to go as soon as the door reopens?
We are amazed at the impact of Vessels of Fire and Glory. That book is not just blessing people—it has started a movement! Critical Mass remains required reading in many Christian schools and has never stopped influencing people who pray for revival. Edgewise offers wisdom for living in the last days. Together they provide you with solid, hard-hitting and encouraging truth. Not a bad thing just now.
The War Chest Collection has handed the enemy a double defeat by empowering God’s people and keeping us strong and ready.
Thank you for listening and get your War Chest Collection today. Turn your summer read into equipping, encouragement, and fire! We are all going to come out of this mightier than ever!   -Mario Murillo Ministries
