FIVE PROVEN WAYS TO WIN SOULS IN CALIFORNIA

Jesus called His Father, the ‘Lord of the harvest.’ “…when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”” (Matthew 9:36-38)

Those words tell us a lot. It tells us that God the Father is leading the charge to win souls.  We then join Him in the harvest. It is a good reminder to us never to be intimidated by California culture. Yes, there is hostility, perversion, and hardness of heart. But none of that is a match for God.

Satan does not want you to believe there is a harvest in California—a vast harvest. If we only knew how many people God has right now on the verge of being converted to Christ, it would truly shock us all!

Here are five proven ways to win souls in California.

1. Be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” The Baptism of the Holy Spirit was given, first and foremost, as a gift to empower soul winning. Every other benefit, while glorious, is secondary. The primary reason for this gift is: power to be a witness.

The Baptism will put wise words within you and boldness to speak those words. You may think you are too shy to witness. You may find it impossible to picture yourself sharing your faith. But the Holy Spirit will rise within you and make you a powerful and effective soul winner. Consider the difference the Baptism of the Holy Spirit made in Peter. He went from a man who was so afraid, to the point that he denied Christ three times, to a man who was as bold as a lion and who converted thousands on the day of Pentecost.

2. Write a short summary of your testimony. Revelation 12:11, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives unto death.” The most effective weapon you will ever use to win souls is your own account of how Jesus saved you. Memorize it. Make it a habit to refer to it often.

E. Stanley Jones was the Billy Graham of his day. He developed a debate forum where atheists and intellectuals were challenged to face off with Christians. Often he would not divulge who was going to defend the Faith before these prominent atheists. Then he would introduce his team: new converts. Time and time again the intellectuals would be stymied by the simple power of a changed life. No matter what they threw at these new believers, they would get the same answer back, “All I know is, once I was lost, but now I am found.” That is your edge!

We have all been told we need ‘ice breakers’ and deep theological statements in order to witness. Not true! What we need, and what the hurting soul needs is the simple story of your transformation.

3. Identify your harvest field. A better name for this is your circle of influence. These are people you deal with in your everyday life. They are hairstylists, waiters in your favorite restaurant, classmates, friends, and even family.

They know you. They have seen you on your good days and on your bad days. They already know what you believe, and they respect you. While it’s true that the whole world is our mission field, this is your primary harvest field.

It won’t be strange if the subject of your walk with Jesus comes up. This will happen because they have been watching your life. They can tell a difference between how you respond to problems, and what problems do to them. This is why we must live what we preach. They see the power of Christ in how we handle a crisis.

It is inevitable that an opportunity to share your miracle will present itself.

4. Reap the ripe harvest. Don’t argue with fools or angry people. It is a total waste of time and worse. Mark Twain said, “Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.”

The Bible says it this way: “Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are.” (Proverbs 26:4)

Why waste your time trying to convince someone who only wants to fight? Especially when you are surrounded by people overwhelmed by their life and who have great anxiety about the future. They are asking deep questions. That is a harvest ready to be picked.

But there is another gigantic reason to discern the harvest, and it’s in the following two verses.

Joel 28, “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh…”

John 16:8, “And when (the Holy Spirit) has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment…”

The first verse tells us something wonderful came upon all of humanity on the Day of Pentecost. The second verse describes what the Spirit Who fell on them is doing in them. Every human being is under the influence of the Holy Spirit. That influence is convicting them of sin, and warning them of the disaster of living their life without God.

How wonderful to realize that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit makes you the perfect voice to someone who is already under His influence.

5. Don’t just invite them to a meeting—bring them.

Here is exactly how we instruct people to bring souls to our Tent: Don’t just invite people—ask them to come with you. Pick them up and drive them to the tent. Buy them a meal either before or after the crusade. If it is before, it is a wonderful chance to brief them on what they are about to experience. Tell them they will hear a message that will encourage them and give them inner peace. Tell them that they will see a demonstration of the power of God that will confirm that what they are hearing is real and that it is the truth.  Or if you choose to go out afterwards, it is an outstanding opportunity to reflect on what happened during the meeting.

I work hard to enforce the atmosphere God wants in the Tent. Our theme verse is this: “Nevertheless, they stayed there a long time, preaching boldly, and the Lord proved their message was from Him by giving them power to do great miracles.” (Acts 14:3)

We don’t do fire tunnels, inner healing, personal prophecy, or marathon worship. Is it because we want a harmless user-friendly service? Not at all! You will see prophecy in the Tent that causes the hearers to be convicted of their sins. They will fall to their knees and “worship God, declaring that God is truly among you” (see 1 Cor. 14:25). There will be messages in tongues and interpretation. We do cast out demons. There will be instantaneous healings and addictions will vanish.

Can you guess the difference? Everything we do in the Tent is to show the lost soul that they are loved and that the power of God is real.

The bottom line is that we must win the lost in California. We have no excuse for not doing so, because the harvest is indeed ripe. Along with our regular worship we need services that are unselfish. You aren’t serious about winning the lost if there is no deliberate plan to get them there. You aren’t serious about winning souls if you make outsiders sit through 90 minutes of a single phrase like, “Open the floodgates of heaven.” You aren’t serious about winning souls if your meeting is strictly for saints to get a deeper buzz than ever before.

I challenge you to try the things I have written about in this blog. Just under the surface, California contains the largest harvest in America!

I SUPPORT TRUMP BECAUSE I WANT TO WIN SOULS

The Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution are masterpieces of freedom and equality. But they are something else: they are the foundation of the fairest system of religious freedom in history—a system that allows me to preach the Gospel.

There are many compelling reasons to support Trump: The Supreme Court, the unborn, national defense, and of course our economy. But the plain truth is that I must support whoever is trying to protect my freedom to preach the Gospel and I must oppose those who are trying to destroy it, because, bottom line, I want to win souls.

I do not want to restrict other religions; I simply want the freedom to tell the best story mankind has ever heard. When the Gospel is proclaimed, its superiority over all other religions and philosophies becomes self-evident.

Show me proof that Trump is a threat to winning souls, and I will stop supporting him. If you could show me proof that the Democrat Party is not trying to silence the Gospel, then I would stop attacking their policies.

If you could show me that it is Trump and not the Democrats who are going after religious freedom, I would change my tactics.

If you could answer these simple questions, I would instantly alter course:

  • Who regularly attacks the Bible? Who is censoring the Gospel on social media and wishes to do much more? Who has declared that preaching against sin is a hate crime? Who champions Islam and attacks Christians and Jews?
  • Which party’s candidates for President proudly state they they can be Christian and at the same time live a lifestyle the Bible calls immoral?
  • Who tries to put Christians out of business because they give to Christian organizations? Who, if they had their way, would make it impossible for me to rent land for tent crusades? (Those in power in California have told me that I have only a little time left before I must alter my message or be silenced.)
  • Who is ordering Christian public school teachers to call a 5 year old boy a girl in front of all the other children, if that is what that boy prefers?

My passion is to win souls. Show me how voting for a Democrat protects my right to do that.

And now, to my brothers and sisters in Christ who favor the Left over Trump because of your passion for social justice for illegal immigrants, transsexuals, and those on the fringes of society: Are you not buying into a half-cure? Are you not condemning them to a lifetime of dependency on government?

When you align yourself with George Soros—and worse, when you take his money—are you not aiding and abetting a false cure? Are you not a puppet in a final act that will remove freedom to preach the Gospel?

Show me any way that a confederation of Evangelicals and Leftists ends well.

When will the oppressed ever be set free by being placed in a godless socialist institution and cared for by a cold government bureaucracy?  Isn’t socialism Einstein’s definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? The addict who gets free needles is still an addict. The homeless who get token assistance remain homeless.  Only after they are born again are they free indeed.

Now let me address those of you who love Jesus but find Trump crude. We had a smooth and refined President for eight years who dismantled religious freedom and could not hide his hostility toward the Bible. I am not looking for impeccable manners—I only want to win souls.

If you want to win souls why would you attack the only candidate defending the Gospel?  And why would you empower the avowed enemies of soul winning?

And finally, did you notice that I didn’t attend—along with the galaxy of Evangelical celebrities—the Trump rally in Miami? Why? Because I only want to win souls. I don’t need a photo-op with Trump. I only need a President who will protect my freedom to preach the Gospel. That’s my unwavering goal.

I do not write blogs to win favor with the President. Even if I were invited to a state dinner I would only attend out of my love and respect for Trump. But I’d be out of there in a flash. I couldn’t get out of my tux and back into street clothes fast enough—to get back to the only thing I want to do: Win souls.

Kanye West

I find it quite ironic: Kanye West has turned his concerts into a mission while the church has turned its mission into a concert. He is winning souls, but getting criticized by believers who won’t win souls.

Is Kanye’s conversion real? Are his motives pure? Does he really know Christ? One honest look at the American church makes these questions seem bizarre. These are the very questions the American church should be asking itself, not Kanye.

It reminds me of the time the disciples got all territorial about anyone outside their group doing ministry:  “John answered Him, saying, ‘Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.’ But Jesus said, ‘Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. For he who is not against us is on our side.’” (Mark 9:38-40)

America is littered with religious centers that have permitted masses to worship without repenting—to believe they are saved without being converted.  Whole congregations are living in outright sin but they are hearing from the pulpit: “if you confess your sins, you offend God’s grace.” And we are worried about Mr. West?

Some are wondering if Kanye is building an empire in the name of Jesus for personal gain.  Whoa!  That question could be leveled at many celebrity preachers…maybe even your favorite.  We are surrounded by Carnal Christian Centers built entirely on marketing, smoke and mirrors, who want to question Kanye’s substance.

But the excuse for fearing Kanye West’s potential insincerity is dismissed by Paul the Apostle himself: 15, “Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: 16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; 17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.  18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.” (Phil. 1:15-18)

Any soul that sincerely reaches out to Christ in these rallies will be touched by salvation. Christ is being preached!  Woodrow Wilson said, “The proof that the Gospel is divine is the preaching it has survived.” And it will most certainly survive this.

Now I want to address one final danger: the danger of rejecting a modern Saul of Tarsus. The early church made that mistake, but thank God they recovered before it was too late. I am not so sure the American church knows what is good for it.  Just look at how many Christians refused to vote for Donald Trump even as he was fiercely battling on behalf of Christians and supporting Israel.

Jesus said, “You did not know the hour of your visitation.” Another translation said, “You did not know when God came to help you.” What if God is sending help, but we keep hypocritically sniffing at His help?  When Jerusalem rejected Paul, the result was a disaster.

God keeps on placing strange packages at our door. This is because when God saves America from self-destructing, no one else will get the glory.  I for one welcome God’s help, and that of everyone He sends.

This letter from Scott Hinkle really nails it.

An open letter to Contemporary American Evangelists- (myself included)

By Scott Hinkle

The office of evangelist is an equally important part of the Ephesians 4:11 & 12 listing of 5-fold ministry gifts. There most certainly is a legitimate role of an evangelist to the church in stirring, equipping for evangelism, etc.
Yet it must be clearly understood, the great distinctive to the gift /office of evangelist is that they are called to be the voice to the lost declaring the gospel & calling them to Christ.
The other Ep.4:11 offices are church oriented being both inward and infrastructure focused.
The evangelist should be focused upon the outside world at large where the unsaved and unchurched live.
If that be true, why then is there amongst some evangelists a seemingly inordinate amount of energy spent in complaining about a perceived lack of recognition by other church leaders? As if other church leaders determine the call of God.
Would the effort and energy be better invested prayerfully and even creatively looking for ways to invade the darkness outside the four walls of church buildings instead of concentrating and at times whining about what is perceived as a lack of acknowledgement from peers? Or does the contemporary version of American evangelist seek validation by being invited to preach primarily in Christian gatherings or to be put another way— fish in bathtubs?
The great evangelists of history – both old and new- risked venturing into deep waters and at times unsafe stormy seas to be fishers of men.
Would not those be great models to follow after if our hearts truly were consumed with a passion to make Christ known to the least and fully lost men, women and children of our times? This necessitates leaving the safe harbor of “church-dom” and to quote the great missionary evangelist T.L. Osborn going “out where the sinners are.”
This letter does not come from a critical spirit but from a soul crying out on behalf of a broken culture and dying world. The darkness of our era is desperate for the light of Christ.
Now, more than ever, there must be another great awakening.
This is a call to not only raise the bar higher for evangelists but to extend a challenge to drastically expand the horizons of our perspective, vision and practice.
Grace to all sharing Good News.
A co-laborer and fellow servant,
Scott Hinkle

RENO EXPLODES WITH MIRACLES

RENO EXPLODES WITH MIRACLES

By Mario Murillo

After 48 years of seeing miracles I am still ill at ease telling others about it.  Only Jesus should be featured.  He alone is responsible for the astounding event that I am about to relate to you.

When Jesus described her to me it sounded as if her body had declared war on itself.   I still didn’t know who she was.  What I did know is that she suffered in secret—she had pain in virtually every part of her body.  A nameless predator was destroying her.

The Holy Spirit held off revealing her identity until I was fully informed.  When the list of her agonies was revealed to this unworthy servant, He ordered me to describe it in detail.

Sparks 3

Then I knew who she was!  I asked her to come and stand in the center aisle.   “You are in excruciating pain in your head, eyes, neck, shoulders, spine, arms, fingers, hips, legs, feet and toes.  On top of all of this, you have one leg that is precisely ¾ of an inch shorter than the other.  Your entire right side has been thrown off.”

I asked her to confirm the exact accuracy of this word by raising her hand and waving it at the audience.  She raised both hands and frantically waved them in the air.  I asked her to walk to test her miracle.  She did not walk she ran—she sprinted!  Thankfully, we caught that moment on camera.

I assumed—like everyone else—that she would stop when she got to the front.  Instead she flew up onstage and gave me a hug.  Every joint muscle, never, and ligament was resurrected in her body!

Sparks 7

To the eternal glory of God…I tell you skepticism and unbelief met a premature death.  I declared the Gospel to an audience thunderstruck by the Glory of God.  They came from everywhere to declare their unconditional surrender to the King of Kings.

What is happening in Reno is real—scary real.  However, this fire broke out—very inconveniently—on Valentine’s Day.  Our staff was spent.  We came home to rest from months of Holy Spirit awakening in many cities—especially Branson, where we had seen an outpouring continue from August until January.

Not only would we not rest…the power, miracles, and salvations increased!  We are fully operating on supernatural strength.

The next night was even more intense.  The house was packed!  The crowd had doubled in just 3 days.  A well-known athlete came because a friend—who needed healing—asked him to join her.  He agreed but warned her that he believed it was all a fraud.

Sparks 10

Again, God has mercy on His unworthy servant.  I picked him out and asked him to put his hand on his friend’s spine.  She was healed!

He was one of the first to come to Christ.  After the service, he was all over the place; letting people know it was real.  he had experienced LIVING PROOF.

The biggest explosion of praise came when I announced the unimaginable:  WE ARE GOING ON NEXT WEEK IN THIS ERUPTION IN RENO!   THE MEETINGS CONTINUE NEXT SUNDAY, MONDAY AND TUESDAY!

Hey preacher… Stop entertaining, consoling and informing…and start converting Americans.

converting

Hey preacher! Stop entertaining, consoling and informing…and start converting Americans.

The first thing you are taught in public speaking is to know your audience.  If I were to tell you what secular Americans are really like (something that we work and pray hard at knowing) many ministers and Christians would vehemently disagree.  That is because they do not know their audience; let alone how to preach to that audience.

They assume (subconsciously) that Americans do not want Christ and the best we can do is draw from an ever decreasing pool of already converted people. This fact is clearly seen in our sermons and conversations.  We have taken to continually talking to ourselves because we believe that no one else wants to hear it.

Christianspeak: We speak a language all our own, a language that no one understands but our little group.  We talk about walking in favor, prophetic words, soul ties, generational curses, binding, loosing, soaking, carrying until we sound like beings from other worlds.

The biggest reason that we do not know how to reach our audience is that we do not understand who our audience is.  Your audience is the unchurched.

It is my great honor to reintroduce you to two things: your audience and your competition.

Our audience: Look in their eyes and you will see what they are actually like.  It is the same look that people had in the Soviet Union at the peak of communism in the 1960’s.  It is a catatonic, going through the motions, drinking, taking drugs, waiting on a check from the government kind of stare.

They are not nearly as mad at God as you suppose.  Outwardly, they repeat what they hear from party officials. Inside, they harbor a hope that what the Bible says is actually true.  The preaching they hear discourages them because pastors sound like they don’t believe in the Bible either.  They think we are fakes but they deeply wish that we were not.

wish

Our competition: As long as pastors believe that other churches are their competition we will get nowhere.  Here is our real competition:

-Government when it acts as if it is the American church.  When Government says “believe in us and we will take care of you” they have replaced the church.

-Hollywood and the music industry when they tell youth through film and lyric what their values should be what their opinions should be and what they should be mad about.

-Higher education when it blasts God and punishes faith.

So what should we do?  We should determine to convert America to Christ.  If it means less emotional binges, intellectual coffee klatches and soothing mass therapy services…so be it!

What it does not mean is compromise!  Believe it or not Americans do not wish us to stop being fervent. They are not really thrown off when we raise our hands or even when we speak in tongues or operate in the miraculous.  They tune us out when we seem like we are into ourselves and oblivious to their needs.

6

So what must we preach today?  The answer comes to us today from an angel that visited a jail cell.  Acts 5: 17- 20 says, Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation, and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.  But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said, “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.”

The Church is threatened by the mass arrest of all the apostles.  It becomes an occasion for God to recalibrate and refocus their preaching. Just what we need today!  the Angel gave them 3 mandates in a single phrase: “Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life.”

1.Take a stand. There is no confusion about what the Angel is asking the men of God to do.  He is telling them to stake their claim in their nation.  This is not just a physical act; it is also moral and spiritual. We must take a stand against Satan’s agenda for America and we must take a stand for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We take a stand because we belong in the national conversation.  America has a drug, divorce, suicide, anger, and atheism problem.  Our voice needs to be heard because we carry the most immediate and effective cure for everything that is hurting America.  The Angel is reinforcing to the disciples that their message is valid and urgent.

2. Take your stand in the temple courts in other words go to the center of the city.Ours is not an obscure message that should be whispered in the secret places of society.  The temple courts were the heart of Jerusalem.  The Angel is blatantly instructing them to raise their voice in the very center of their culture.

In that same way we must go where the people are and where the biggest lies are being told.  The angel gave them an exact location to take their stand and that location spoke volumes to the Apostles.  God is serious about making a difference in the culture.

3. Tell all of the words of this life. What a scathing rebuke that is to popular Christianity.  While Christian celebrities scurry to and fro to find buzzwords to replace the core doctrines of the Bible, here is an Angel telling the disciples that they must tell all the words of life.  They cannot leave out a single benefit or demand of the message of Jesus Christ.

simplicity copy

How right that Angel was.  There is life in those words.  There is life in the blood of Christ, the cross and the resurrection.  There is life in them so amazing that no mountain of eloquence or cunningly devised sermon can begin to match.

Brave the offense of the Cross in your preaching and watch the power of the resurrection released! Soon the supernatural life of God will overtake our preaching, create miracles in people that infinitely surpass the results of popular preaching.  Society would not care about the demands in our message because of the changes they would see in their own souls, minds and bodies.

That is how we convert America.
