Whoops: PolitiFact’s ‘Lie of the Year’ Turns Out to Be True

Last month, PolitiFact selected its “Lie of the Year.” Given PolitiFact’s dubious record of singling out Republicans for lying far more often than Democrats, you probably could have guessed the winner of this particular sweepstakes was a Mitt Romney campaign ad:

It was a lie told in the critical state of Ohio in the final days of a close campaign — that Jeep was moving its U.S. production to China. It originated with a conservative blogger, who twisted an accurate news story into a falsehood. Then it picked up steam when the Drudge Report ran with it. Even though Jeep’s parent company gave a quick and clear denial, Mitt Romney repeated it and his campaign turned it into a TV ad.

And they stood by the claim, even as the media and the public expressed collective outrage against something so obviously false.

“Public expressed collective outrage”? That’s essentially wishcasting on the part of PolitiFact, nor are they accurately representing what Mitt Romney said in the ad. In fact, here’s PolitiFact’s original “fact check” on the matter:

[Mitt Romney] Says Barack Obama “sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China” at the cost of American jobs.

Ok. Now here’s what the Reuters reported earlier this week:

Fiat (FIA.MI) and its U.S. unit Chrysler expect to roll out at least 100,000 Jeeps in China when production starts in 2014 as they seek to catch up with rivals in the world’s biggest car market. …

“We expect production of around 100,000 Jeeps per year which is expandable to 200,000,” [Chrysler CEO Sergio] Marchionne, who is also CEO of Chrysler, said on the sidelines of a conference, adding production could start in 18 months.

So, yes, it’s confirmed that Jeep will be producing cars in China. According to the Toledo Blade last November:

Currently, Jeeps sell in more than 120 countries around the world, including China. They’re nearly all built in factories in the United States.

By expanding Jeep production to China, instead of increasing Jeep production in the U.S., it’s safe to say Jeep (or more properly, Fiat, which now owns Chrysler) is choosing to create more jobs overseas instead of in America where taxpayers bailed the company out.

Now one could argue—and I suspect many pro-free trade, pro-globalization conservatives would make this argument—that expanding production overseas is good for Jeep, and what’s good for Jeep in the long-run is ultimately good for the jobs they sustain in the U.S. job market. And if you dig deep into the PolitiFact ruling, that’s their essential objection to Mitt Romney’s ad: It implies that it would be better for Jeep to create more jobs in the U.S. in the short-term, instead of expanding overseas production. So in the end, PolitiFact’s beef with the Romney ad was an entirely argumentative disagreement about what course of action Jeep should take, not a factual objection to Romney’s true statement that Jeep was going to start building cars in China. However, disagreeing about the implications of manufacturing Jeeps in China doesn’t justify calling Romney a liar for accurately stating Jeeps would be manufactured in China. PolitiFact didn’t even dispute that, and even conceded the “Lie of the Year” was built on a “grain of truth.” Rather, PolitiFact explicitly argued producing Jeeps in China is a good thing:

The production of cars in China is a sign of Chrysler’s growing strength in overseas markets. It would like to build Jeeps in China to sell in China. It is not outsourcing American auto jobs.

PSY has been taking over America with his surprise smash hit “Gangnam Style” but there’s new information on the South Korean pop star that will soon change his popularity among U.S. fans.

It turns out PSY has been involved in several anti-American protest performances. According to Mediate.com he smashed a model U.S. tank while onstage in 2002 to oppose 37,000 U.S. troops that descended on the Korean Peninsula.

A few years later, PSY cursed Americans after a South Korean missionary was executed. His song “Dear American” sets the record straight.

“Kill those f***ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives/Kill those f***ing Yankees who ordered them to torture/Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers/Kill them all slowly and painfully,” he raps.

PSY is slated to perform for President Obama for anti-american, Gangnam style, psy special to air on TNT Friday, December 21. As a result,  a petition to rescind his invitation   has been created by outraged Americans for his anti-American song lyrics.”

Think what this means: For his Christmas in Washington Special next Friday Obama will feature a Korean Rapper who hates America.  Here are the words to one of his songs: “Kill those f***ing Yankees who have been torturing Iraqi captives/Kill those f***ing Yankees who ordered them to torture/Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers/Kill them all slowly and painfully,”

As I have been trying to tell anyone who would listen, Obama has neither sensitivity nor restraint in his relentless campaign to insult, humiliate, desecrate all that we hold dear in this nation.  Obama’s actions remind me of a moment in the French Revolution.  To insult and degrade Catholicism, they took a prostitute, dressed her like the Virgin Mary, stood her up in front of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and with shouts of praise, called her the QUEEN OF HEAVEN”  This rapper is Obama’s equivalent “raison de guerre.

How many worthy musicians did Obama have to choose from for a Christmas Special?  How many singers have sacrificed to go and sing for our troops did he pass over in favor of a rapper who wants them tortured and killed?  How many Christian artists could he have asked to come?

No, instead to expand his revolution, to drive home the point that he is a radical hipster to his adoring public, our alleged Commander in Chief goes out of his way to inflict pain on our men and women in uniform even while they serve and cannot come home for Christmas.

This act by Obama goes so far beyond the pale that it makes me wonder if he has crossed some spiritual line to force the Hand of God.   Time to pray fervently for a miracle of national repentance.

Obamacare makes the IRS a private army.

Before you read this chilling account I want to emphasize that the battle is not yours it is God’s. He will not let America go down without a fight! Yes the battle is great and the forces allied against us are strong, well organized, and fantastically financed.  We cannot compete on any human scale.  Do not entertain that thought…not even for a moment.  It is an exercise in futility and wastes precious time and resources.  This battle belongs to God.

I believe we have already seen supernatural answers.

God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah for just twelve righteous people.  America is home to millions upon millions of godly Christians who are working hard, raising children and faithfully paying their taxes and their mortgages.  They did not live above their means.  They did not take any bailout money.  They have not bowed their knee to the gods of abortion or gay marriage.  A child of three can see that if God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah for twelve righteous people then how much more we can expect God to spare the vast number of righteous Americans who have remained innocent of all that led to this economic disaster.

2. All of this can work together for good.  This is the nature of Satan: He always goes too far.  The American church has been deeply divided and isolated from itself and the outside world for years.  This threat has caused pastors to pray together awakened them to stop preaching a compromised gospel.

Now read how Obama  will use healthcare to turn the IRS into a beast that  will expand dramatically, have undisclosed power, and refuses to tell its true plans to Congress.  There is still hope but read what we must do right now!

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold most of President Barack Obama’s health care law will come home to roost for most taxpayers in about 2 1/2 years, when they’ll have to start providing proof on their tax returns that they have health insurance.

That scenario puts the Internal Revenue Service at the center of the debate, renewing questions about whether the agency is capable of policing the health care decisions of millions of people in the United States while also collecting the taxes needed to run the federal government.

Under the law, the IRS will provide tax breaks and incentives to help pay for health insurance and impose penalties on some people who don’t buy coverage and on some businesses that don’t offer it to employees.

The changes will require new regulations, forms and publications, new computer programs and a big new outreach program to explain it all to taxpayers and tax professionals. Businesses that don’t claim an exemption will have to prove they offer health insurance to employees.

The health care law “includes the largest set of tax law changes in more than 20 years,” according to the Treasury inspector general who oversees the IRS. The agency will have to hire thousands of workers to manage it, requiring significant budget increases that already are being targeted by congressional Republicans determined to dismantle the president’s signature initiative.

The Supreme Court, in its 5-4 ruling, upheld the mandate that most Americans get health insurance. The majority said Congress has the power to enforce the mandate under its taxing authority. The decision labeled the penalties a tax, noting that they will be collected by the IRS.

The penalty will be fully phased in by 2016, when it will be $695 for each uninsured adult or 2.5 percent of family income, whichever is greater, up to $12,500. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 4 million people will pay the penalty that year.

The law allows the IRS to withhold tax refunds to collect the penalty, and most filers get refunds. This year, 77 percent of the 135 million individual income tax returns processed by the IRS qualified for a refund. The average refund: $2,707.

The IRS is expected to spend $881 million on the law from 2010 through 2013, hiring more than 2,700 new workers and upgrading its computer systems. But the IRS has not made public information about its spending plans in the following years, when the bulk of the health care law takes effect.

In 2010, House Ways and Means Committee Republicans issued a report saying the IRS may need as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents and other employees “to investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans.”

“The agency’s repeated lack of transparency to Congress and its failure to provide accountability to the American taxpayers raises fundamental concerns about implementation authorities vested to the IRS,” the top four Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee wrote in a June 27 letter to the IRS commissioner.

There is still great hope for our nation but we must act now. The people of God can stop this if they:

1. Begin to pray fervently and continually for revival.  It may mean repenting of voting this man into office.

2. Stop criticizing those brave enough to speak the truth in love.

3. Quit lying to yourself about how the government will take care of you.

4.Vote your conscience.

5. Speak out while you still can.
