Obama’s disconnected, out of touch, in denial State of the Union

BY BYRON YORK | JANUARY 21, 2015 | 8:00 AM

Perhaps the most striking thing about the 2015 State of the Union address was not the president at the podium but the audience in the seats. The joint session of Congress listening to President Obama Tuesday night included 83 fewer Democrats than the group that heard Obama’s first address in 2009 — 69 fewer Democrats in the House and 14 fewer in the Senate. The scene in the House Chamber was a graphic reminder of the terrible toll the Obama years have taken on Capitol Hill Democrats.

Not that the president would ever acknowledge that. Indeed, in more than an hour of speaking, Obama never once acknowledged that there was a big election in November and that the leadership of the Senate has changed. Obama’s silence on that political reality stood in stark contrast to George W. Bush’s 2007 State of the Union address, in which he graciously and at some length acknowledged the Democrats’ victory in the 2006 midterms. Bush said it was an honor to address Nancy Pelosi as “Madam Speaker.” He spoke of the pride Pelosi’s late father would have felt to see his daughter lead the House. “I congratulate the new Democrat majority,” Bush said. “Congress has changed, but not our responsibilities.”

If one cannot imagine Obama saying such a thing — well, he didn’t.

Just as remarkable, against the backdrop of the Democratic electoral carnage of his years in office, was that the president’s most memorable line of the night was a bit of ad-lib bragging about his own election victories. When Obama said, “I have no more campaigns to run,” some Republicans snarkily began to applaud, whereupon the president shot back, “I know, because I won both of them.” Some Democrats dutifully cheered Obama’s comeback line, even though his victories ended up costing them a lot.

Beyond failing to acknowledge the new reality on Capitol Hill, Obama at times seemed equally out of touch with reality both in the nation and the world.

“In Iraq and Syria, American leadership — including our military power — is stopping ISIL’s advance,” Obama said, referring to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The claim left some foreign policy observers aghast, since there is a general consensus that the Islamic State is making progress in the face of limited American air attacks. “That just isn’t the case, according to military officials I’ve been speaking to,” NBC foreign correspondent Richard Engel said of Obama’s statement. “[The Islamic State] are taking new territory.” Of Obama’s description of a world in which the Islamic State is retreating, Afghanistan is on the road to peace, and terrorists are on the run from South Asia to North Africa, Engel concluded, “It sounded like the president was outlining a world that he wishes we were all living in.”

Obama sounded equally disconnected from reality on some domestic issues. For example, when discussing the nation’s veterans, he said, “Already, we’ve made strides towards ensuring that every veteran has access to the highest quality care.” A listener wouldn’t know it from Obama’s speech, but there has been a huge VA scandal since Obama’s last State of the Union; his secretary of Veterans Affairs had to resign because of it. Veterans died waiting for treatment. All Obama said Wednesday night was, “We’re slashing the backlog that had too many veterans waiting years to get the benefits they need.” By “benefits,” the president apparently meant “life-saving medical care.”

At another point, Obama claimed credit for a “re-energized space program.” The remark surely led to some jaws dropping among laid-off National Aeronautics and Space Administration engineers who believe Obama has nearly killed the place.

The president’s final disconnect was perhaps the biggest. After a “vicious recession … tonight, we turn the page,” Obama said. “With a growing economy, shrinking deficits, bustling industry, booming energy production, we have risen from recession.” For some Americans, that is the case, although even for them, “bustling” might be a bit much. For other Americans, the news is still pretty bad. When a recent Fox News poll asked, “For you and your family, does it feel like the recession is over, or does it feel like the country is still in a recession?” 64 percent of respondents said it feels like there is still a recession. Indeed, it’s widely conceded that part of the reason the unemployment rate has fallen is because a core of discouraged workers dropped out of the job search altogether. So for many listeners, Obama’s “turn the page” declaration will seem as out of touch as his claim that Islamic State’s advance has been stopped.

Perhaps Richard Engel found the key to the president’s nearly 7,000-word speech: Obama described the world as he wishes it were, not as it actually is. Indeed, in Obama’s State of the Union, things are going so well that it’s hard to imagine why voters would decisively turn control of Congress over to the opposition party — not that Obama would acknowledge that, either. Doing so would be a concession that something is still terribly wrong.

IRS agent: Tax agency is still targeting Tea Party groups

BY PAUL BEDARD | AUGUST 8, 2013 AT 5:20 PM

In a remarkable admission that is likely to rock the Internal Revenue Service again, testimony released Thursday by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp reveals that an agent involved in reviewing tax exempt applications from conservative groups told a committee investigator that the agency is still targeting Tea Party groups, three months after the IRS scandal erupted..

In closed door testimony before the House Ways & Means Committee, the unidentified IRS agent said requests for special tax status from Tea Party groups is being forced into a special “secondary screening” because the agency has yet to come up with new guidance on how to judge the tax status of the groups.

In a transcript from the committee provided to Secrets, a Ways & Means investigator asked: “If you saw — I am asking this currently, if today if a Tea Party case, a group — a case from a Tea Party group came in to your desk, you reviewed the file and there was no evidence of political activity, would you potentially approve that case? Is that something you would do?”

The agent said, “At this point I would send it to secondary screening, political advocacy.”

The committee staffer then said, “So you would treat a Tea Party group as a political advocacy case even if there was no evidence of political activity on the application. Is that right?” The agent admitted, “Based on my current manager’s direction, uh-huh.”

Camp called the renewed targeting of Tea Party groups “outrageous.”

Added a committee aide, “In plain English, the IRS is still targeting Tea Party cases.”

During 2010-2012 period when the anti-Obama Tea Party groups faced special scrutiny from the president’s IRS, agents used a “be on the lookout,” or BOLO, list which said groups with words like “Tea Party” in their title should face special, secondary screening for political activities that might hamper their special tax status.

When the scandal erupted after a Treasury Department inspector general revealed the improper political scrutiny, the acting head of the IRS, Danny Werfel, said the BOLO list had been suspended. That was six weeks ago.

But because there is nothing in its place, agents apparently either don’t know how to handle Tea Party tax exempt applications, or are too scared to make a decision.

Asked by the committee how it handles Tea Party applications, the agent said, “If a political advocacy case came in today, I would give it — or talk about it to my manager because right now we really don’t have any direction or we haven’t had any for the last month and a half.”

Camp, the Michigan Republican, told Secrets, “It is outrageous that IRS management continues to target Tea Party cases without any justification. The harassment, abuse and delays these Americans have faced over the last few years has been unwarranted, unprovoked and, at times, possibly illegal. The fact that the IRS still continues to treat the Tea Party differently and subject them to additional targeting is outrageous and it must stop immediately.”

Below is the Ways & Means Committee transcript of the IRS official.

Wednesday, August 1, 2013

Committee: Today, currently, how do you analyze advocacy cases. If, for example, Tea Party of Arkansas came in today, how would you handle it?

IRS agent: Well, the BOLO list doesn’t exist anymore.

Committee: Sure.

IRS: If a political advocacy case came in today, I would give it — or talk about it to my manager because right now we really don’t have any direction or we haven’t had any for the last month and a half.

Committee: If you saw — I am asking this currently, if today if a Tea Party case, a group — a case from a Tea Party group came in to your desk, you reviewed the file and there was no evidence of political activity, would you potentially approve that case? Is that something you would do?

IRS agent: At this point I would send it to secondary screening, political advocacy.

Committee: So you would treat a Tea Party group as a political advocacy case even if there was no evidence of political activity on the application. Is that right?

IRS agent: Based on my current manager’s direction, uh-huh.

Have you heard the news? By Mario Murillo

shot copy

Have you heard the news?  You should be boiling, raging mad at all your leaders today.

Anger is almost never good.  It is a destructive trait that is roundly condemned by the Bible except for one single form of anger.  Anger can destroy relationships, opportunities, and blessings as fast as a raging fire.  While this is true about anger, there is a place for divine anger, in the heart of God’s vessels.

1 Samuel 11: 6 “Then the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard this news, and his anger was greatly aroused.”   We need the Spirit of God to come on Pastors, Prophets, Apostles, Teachers, Evangelists and every American who names the name of Jesus to rage against the certain disaster of Obama’s lies.   The recovery will not come under debt.  Jobs are not coming with his policies!  Wake up!

Here is the news that the Holy Spirit needs to use on everyone child of God who reads this.  Our leaders, both Democrat and Republican are guilty of crimes against our children.  Obama, the Democrats and the Republicans have the blood of all future Americans (if there are any) on their hands.

Last night we heard a speech that was the biggest bag of lies and misstatements since the 1920’s.  Nancy Pelosi who does not know how to parse words as well as Obama said it best, “we do not have a spending problem.”  Obama danced around the issues last night like Lady GaGa.  He used smoke mirrors, hipness and mindless emotion to tell us that we will get out of debt by spending more, spending wildly, and spending all we can.  Under the banner of equality he is leading us into slavery.

You should be furious over the destruction of this country by Democrats like Obama, Pelosi, and Reid and gutless Republicans who are not only complicit, but even now are still afraid to speak out about it!

Is there a solution to the cancer of debt that Washington has heaped on America?  Is there a solution to the lap dog complicity of the Republican Party?  Yes there is but it will take your soul getting the news that this is a time for collective outrage against what I know is a demonic destruction of the nation.

Your individual voice is greater than you know.  Today we must scream out for justice and truth in this nation.   Today, while we still can we must rebuke this madness!  At the very least, you will sleep at night knowing you were not silent during these atrocities, and that when this is all over, you were innocent of going along with the great lie.

Mark Levin

Mark Levin BLASTS both Democrats and gutless Republicans for the destruction of this country

“You should view these politicians with the deepest contempt you can possibly imagine. What they are doing to this country, what they are doing to our finances – there is not a criminal in any federal prison, state prison, city or county jail, with respect to financial crimes of any sort who collectively could have done the kind of damage that Barack Obama and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and YES, willing, timid, gutless Republicans have done to this country! To your future, to your children and your grandchildren! What they are doing is with malice and with forethought….

What the h— does the Democrat party stand for today? The destruction of America? And what the h— does the Republican party stand for today? To sit there with their thumbs in their mouths while it’s going on?

Any politician with an ounce of common sense should be getting on any soap box imaginable and screaming from the top of their lungs that these policies are destroying America!”

Final note from Mario:  IF YOU KEEP SILENT  Esther 4:14 says: “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

I cannot make it any clearer.  Obama has singled out the church for her undoing.  He will fail.  Right now there are those that have the clear call of God on their life for this exact time and this exact crisis.  Mordecai is speaking to many who are reading this blog right now just as truly as he did to Esther.

Pastor, do you really believe you are to remain silent still?  What did Esther do when she got the news?  Leaders of Christ, do you actually believe you should be talking about everything else except what needs to be said right now?

God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called.  No one need fear this time.  No vessel of the Most High should tremble.   Get the news about our nation’s destruction and then get the might, wisdom and power to do something while there is still time!

PARIS | Sat Dec 29, 2012 11:25am EST

(Reuters) – France’s Constitutional Council on Saturday rejected a 75 percent upper income tax rate to be introduced in 2013 in a setback to Socialist President Francois Hollande’s push to make the rich contribute more to cutting the public deficit.

The Council ruled that the planned 75 percent tax on annual income above 1 million euros ($1.32 million) – a flagship measure of Hollande’selection campaign – was unfair in the way it would be applied to different households.

Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said the government would redraft the upper tax rate proposal to answer the Council’s concerns and resubmit it in a new budget law, meaning Saturday’s decision could only amount to a temporary political blow.

While the tax plan was largely symbolic and would only have affected a few thousand people, it has infuriated high earners in France, prompting some such as actor Gerard Depardieu to flee abroad. The message it sent also shocked entrepreneurs and foreign investors, who accuse Hollande of being anti-business.

Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici said the rejection of the 75 percent tax and other minor measures could cut up to 500 million euros in forecast tax revenues but would not hurt efforts to slash the public deficit to below a European Union ceiling of 3 percent of economic output next year.

“The rejected measures represent 300 to 500 million euros. Our deficit-cutting path will not be affected,” Moscovici told BFM television. He too said the government would resubmit a proposal to raise taxes on high incomes in 2013 and 2014.

The Council, made up of nine judges and three former presidents, is concerned the tax would hit a married couple where one partner earned above a million euros but it would not affect a couple where each earned just under a million euros.

UMP member Gilles Carrez, chairman of the National Assembly’s finance commission, told BFM television, however, that the Council’s so-called wise men also felt the 75 percent tax was excessive and too much based on ideology.

FRANCE UNDER SCRUTINY

Hollande shocked many by announcing his 75 percent tax proposal out of the blue several weeks into a campaign that some felt was flagging. Left-wing voters were cheered by it but business leaders warned that talent would flee the country.

Set to be a temporary measure until France is out of economic crisis, the few hundred million euros a year the tax was set to raise is a not insignificant sum as the government strives to boost public finances in the face of stalled growth.

Hollande’s 2013 budget calls for the biggest belt-tightening effort France has seen in decades and is based on a growth target of 0.8 percent, a level analysts view as over-optimistic.

Fitch Ratings this month affirmed its triple-A rating on France but said there was no room for slippage. Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s have both stripped Europe’s No. 2 economy of its AAA badge due to concern over strained public finances and stalled growth.

The International Monetary Fund recently forecast that France will miss its 3 percent deficit target next year and signs are growing that Paris could negotiate some leeway on the timing of that goal with its EU partners.

The INSEE national statistics institute this week scaled back its reading of a return to growth in the third quarter to 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent, and the government said it could review its 2013 outlook in the next few months.

Saturday’s decision was in response to a motion by the opposition conservative UMP party, whose weight in fighting Hollande’s policies has been reduced by a leadership crisis that has split it in two seven months after it lost power.

The Constitutional Council is a politically independent body that rules on whether laws, elections and referenda are constitutional.

Obamacare makes the IRS a private army.

Before you read this chilling account I want to emphasize that the battle is not yours it is God’s. He will not let America go down without a fight! Yes the battle is great and the forces allied against us are strong, well organized, and fantastically financed.  We cannot compete on any human scale.  Do not entertain that thought…not even for a moment.  It is an exercise in futility and wastes precious time and resources.  This battle belongs to God.

I believe we have already seen supernatural answers.

God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah for just twelve righteous people.  America is home to millions upon millions of godly Christians who are working hard, raising children and faithfully paying their taxes and their mortgages.  They did not live above their means.  They did not take any bailout money.  They have not bowed their knee to the gods of abortion or gay marriage.  A child of three can see that if God would have spared Sodom and Gomorrah for twelve righteous people then how much more we can expect God to spare the vast number of righteous Americans who have remained innocent of all that led to this economic disaster.

2. All of this can work together for good.  This is the nature of Satan: He always goes too far.  The American church has been deeply divided and isolated from itself and the outside world for years.  This threat has caused pastors to pray together awakened them to stop preaching a compromised gospel.

Now read how Obama  will use healthcare to turn the IRS into a beast that  will expand dramatically, have undisclosed power, and refuses to tell its true plans to Congress.  There is still hope but read what we must do right now!

By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court’s decision to uphold most of President Barack Obama’s health care law will come home to roost for most taxpayers in about 2 1/2 years, when they’ll have to start providing proof on their tax returns that they have health insurance.

That scenario puts the Internal Revenue Service at the center of the debate, renewing questions about whether the agency is capable of policing the health care decisions of millions of people in the United States while also collecting the taxes needed to run the federal government.

Under the law, the IRS will provide tax breaks and incentives to help pay for health insurance and impose penalties on some people who don’t buy coverage and on some businesses that don’t offer it to employees.

The changes will require new regulations, forms and publications, new computer programs and a big new outreach program to explain it all to taxpayers and tax professionals. Businesses that don’t claim an exemption will have to prove they offer health insurance to employees.

The health care law “includes the largest set of tax law changes in more than 20 years,” according to the Treasury inspector general who oversees the IRS. The agency will have to hire thousands of workers to manage it, requiring significant budget increases that already are being targeted by congressional Republicans determined to dismantle the president’s signature initiative.

The Supreme Court, in its 5-4 ruling, upheld the mandate that most Americans get health insurance. The majority said Congress has the power to enforce the mandate under its taxing authority. The decision labeled the penalties a tax, noting that they will be collected by the IRS.

The penalty will be fully phased in by 2016, when it will be $695 for each uninsured adult or 2.5 percent of family income, whichever is greater, up to $12,500. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 4 million people will pay the penalty that year.

The law allows the IRS to withhold tax refunds to collect the penalty, and most filers get refunds. This year, 77 percent of the 135 million individual income tax returns processed by the IRS qualified for a refund. The average refund: $2,707.

The IRS is expected to spend $881 million on the law from 2010 through 2013, hiring more than 2,700 new workers and upgrading its computer systems. But the IRS has not made public information about its spending plans in the following years, when the bulk of the health care law takes effect.

In 2010, House Ways and Means Committee Republicans issued a report saying the IRS may need as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents and other employees “to investigate and collect billions in new taxes from Americans.”

“The agency’s repeated lack of transparency to Congress and its failure to provide accountability to the American taxpayers raises fundamental concerns about implementation authorities vested to the IRS,” the top four Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee wrote in a June 27 letter to the IRS commissioner.

There is still great hope for our nation but we must act now. The people of God can stop this if they:

1. Begin to pray fervently and continually for revival.  It may mean repenting of voting this man into office.

2. Stop criticizing those brave enough to speak the truth in love.

3. Quit lying to yourself about how the government will take care of you.

4.Vote your conscience.

5. Speak out while you still can.
