NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The word in New England on Tuesday was “Tebow.”

The next day it was all about “spirituality.”

Coincidence? Not at all.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft said Wednesday that Tim Tebow’s faith-based makeup was a factor in deciding to bring the quarterback into the fold.

“He’s a winner, and the fact  that spirituality is so important to him is very appealing to me,” Kraft said, according to CBS Boston.

The report included two more quotes with the word “spirituality.” Kraft was speaking from a charity event in honor of his late wife, Myra:

– “For me personally, having Tim Tebow on this team, he’s someone who believes in spirituality, he’s very competitive, works hard and has a great attitude.”

– “You can’t have enough good people around you, and (Tebow) has the added dimension of spirituality being so important to him, and that personally appeals to me a lot.”

Tebow was cut by the Jets in April after one disappointing season in New York. Many wondered whether he was through in the NFL — until the Patriots swooped in and signed him to a non-guaranteed two-year deal.

New England coach Bill Belichick has been mum on Tebow’s role, though with future Hall of Famer Tom Brady under center you can be sure there will be no QB controversy this time around.

“Watching Tebow throw yesterday, to me, he looked pretty good,” said Kraft. “It’s fun having him here. It’s nice to have three quarterbacks who can throw it really well.”

Kraft also channeled his inner Woody Johnson, the Jets owner who made headlines last year for saying “you can never have enough Tim Tebow.” Except Johnson was presumably talking about the football player. Kraft was speaking of the man.

“You can’t get enough people like him,” Kraft said, according to USA Today. “Life is about collecting good people around you. You can’t have enough good people.”

Sebelius: I Can’t Step Into Girl’s Transplant Case.

Sebelius: I Can’t Step Into Girl’s Transplant Case.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services says she doesn’t want to intervene in transplant decisions about a dying Pennsylvania girl when other children are just as sick.

Kathleen Sebelius says medical experts should make those decisions.

But relatives of 10-year-old Sarah Murnaghan say they want the policy changed for all children awaiting a lung transplant, not just Sarah.

Sarah’s aunt Sharon Ruddock says older children should be eligible for adult lungs because so few pediatric lungs are available.

She says that would add just 20 children to the 1,600 people on the adult waiting list.

Sebelius has called for a review of transplant policies, but the Murnaghans says Sarah doesn’t have time for that.

The Newtown Square girl has been hospitalized for three months with end-stage cystic fibrosis.

Sarah is not giving up hope. She wants to be a singer, but needs a lung transplant to live. Her parents have been with her constantly while she waits at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

“She worries that she’s dying, because she’s not — she’s a smart kid. And she says to me, ‘Mommy, will I wake up tomorrow morning?’” said Janet Murnaghan.

Organ donation rules require adult lungs to be offered first to people over the age of 12. Sarah’s parents say that’s not fair.

“Rules are meant to be broken. My child is not a statistic. She’s a person,” said Janet.

Sarah’s parents have launched a public relations campaign to try to get the rules changed and an online petition in support of Sarah has been created with thousands of supporters.

Congressman Patrick Meehan stepped in and sent a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Services requesting that she address the tragic unfairness and act to give Sarah a chance at life.

“It tugs at my heart. It’s not a perfect system. There is no perfect system. It’s the best we can do right now,” said Dr. Stuart Sweet, who is a board member of the United Network of Organ Sharing.

The organization issued a statement that says the rules can’t be changed for individual cases.

“If I change the system to give Sarah an advantage, there’s another patient, very likely an adolescent, who then gets a disadvantage,” said Dr. Sweet.

Sarah’s been on the waiting list for 18 months. Her options are limited, but she’s not giving up hope.

“I’m not going for easy. I’m just going for possible,” said Sarah.

Rick Warren’s son commits suicide

A 10 year old boy hung himself in the German village because he was so unloved by everyone in the community.  A church refused to allow his burial.  Martin Luther took matters into hand by not only making sure the boy was properly buried but even spoke for the boy in a service.

Why is it he asked, that if a man riding through our woods were attacked, robbed and then killed that we would show nothing but mercy at his tragic end?  But when Satan does the very same thing by  attacking a soul, robbing it of its very hope and then causing its death that we condemn and believe they are lost from God’s mercy.”

Today we have nothing but compassion for the Warren family in this unspeakable loss and pray that the Holy Spirit Himself will comfort them in the loss of this precious young man.

I can only speak for myself but I believe that this is an occasion for the entire Body of Christ to “weep with those who weep.”  – Mario

LAKE FOREST (CBSLA.com) — Pastor Rick and Kay Warren’s youngest son has committed suicide, Saddleback Valley Community Church announced Saturday.

The evangelical megachurch announced the death of 27-year-old Matthew Warren in a statement. He died Friday night in his Mission Viejo home.

Described as an “incredibly kind, gentle and compassionate young man,” the statement said Matthew suffered from mental illness that resulted in deep depression and suicidal thoughts.

“No words can express the anguished grief we feel right now … He struggled from birth with mental illness, dark holes of depression, and even suicidal thoughts,” Pastor Warren said in an emotional letter to his congregation.

“In spite of America’s best doctors, meds, counselors, and prayers for healing, the torture of mental illness never subsided … Thank you for your love and prayers back. We love you back,” the pastor said.

On Saturday evening, church services were held at Saddleback Church in Lake Forest but Warren was not expected to attend.

“We’re in deep pain for the family, just hurting for them,” said Sandra Maddox, who attends the church and is a friend of the Warren family. “He was loving and sweet, extremely intelligent and a bright young man.”

“I’ve walked the road he’s going down right now and it’s hard,” Ron Maddox said through tears. The Maddox family lost their daughter 10 years ago and said they understand how painful this must be for the pastor.

In 2008, the church sponsored a presidential forum between Barack Obama and John McCain. They had arranged to do it again in 2012 but Warren canceled several days beforehand, saying he wanted no part in the mudslinging between Obama and Mitt Romney.

In 2009, Warren gave the invocation at President Obama’s inauguration.

Founded in 1980 by Pastor Rick Warren, Saddleback Church serves the Southern California community with several locations. The pastor is also known for authoring, “The Purpose Driven Life,” which has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, according to the church’s website.

ASHTABULA, Ohio (AP) — Witnesses say the 25-year-old man accused of walking into an Ohio church and fatally shooting his father after an Easter service Sunday was yelling about God and Allah after the killing.

Police say Reshad Riddle walked into the Hiawatha Church of God in Christ in Ashtabula and killed his father, 52-year-old Richard Riddle, with a single shot from a handgun Sunday afternoon.

Associate Pastor Sean Adams told The (Ashtabula) Star Beacon newspaper that worshippers started screaming, ducking down and calling 911 on cellphones after the shooting.

“”It was terrifying,” Adams told the newspaper. “The children were screaming and people were dialing 911. We were afraid to breathe.”

Adams said Reshad Riddle then continued into the church, still holding the gun, and yelled that the killing was “the will of Allah. This is the will of God.”

Reshad Riddle was quickly subdued by officers, who arrived just moments after the shooting. They say he has been mostly cooperative.

The Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland reported that another church pastor said congregants were leaving when they heard a gunshot.
